I've only lived in Massachusetts and Michigan, and I can assure you MA ****ing sucks. MI has its downfalls too, but I much prefer it here. I wouldn't have wanted to move anywhere else in New England either.

though i'm sure there many redeeming qualities for some of these states, like the nature/exploration aspect of the mountains, lakes, etc. and i'm sure many are even vital for the US economy, but wtf man... i'd never live in any of those states unless i was getting paid millions - surrounded by rednecks, hillbillys and trashy people everywhere you go, years behind in terms of technology and innovative culture (including the passing of reasonable laws and, like the decriminalization of mj), no real city life, and nothing too great about the sight-seeing besides well-known historical sites/monuments and shizzz.. not worth it to me when the weather SUCKS.

Don't get me wrong visit there frequently as one of our offices is there and we have a ton of clients. It's okay to visit and hang out but would not live there.

I think that's where a lot of places are like for me. NYC, Florida are fun to visit but not live.

Basically I like to visit and be entertained in big cities, but can only take it in small dosages. I much prefer smaller and more laidback areas to live that still have some fun, places like Salt Lake City, Denver, Seattle (outskirts). Not much of a hot desert guy though so arizona and new mexico are out.

I had to relocate to a blue state again a year ago. Some things are fruity as hell. For example, a cosmo magazine being covered up like it's a porn mag at the grocery store because it objectifies women and body shames.

i came to CA from the tristate area. people ITT act like there aren't high taxes, filth, pollution, homelessness, and severe wealth gaps in those states.

if i'm gonna live somewhere with high taxes, might as well be somewhere warm and nice. didn't notice much of a difference in that aspect.

i also don't think people realize that if you're in a respectable profession you get compensated for the COL.

That’s a myth. Wages don’t keep up with / reflect the exponential rise in the COL.

When I lived there, I made a lot of money for my age, and I’m fortunate enough to work in software.

But It’s not about how much you make. It’s how much you save.

These “but the weather” arguments are so dumb.

I mean, Tristate vs California, it's high taxes and chitty weather vs high taxes and nice weather. People ITT are just saying, there are states where there's both low taxes and nice weather. I don't blame you for not wanting to leave SD, though. Best city in the state.
