What would happen if a NFL referee decided not to throw a flag on a blatant penalty because "Hey it's the Super Bowl, the leash needs to be a little bit longer."
Sports don't work that way.

TJ is maybe the worst loser I've ever seen.
Starting at :40 or so is the relevant portion of TJs post-fight press conference highlights.
Such a bad look.

TJ was just getting warmed up. It could have been a good fight if it wasn't stopped.

Cejudo manhandled tj. Everyone saying about the weight cut affecting tj, cejudo looked alot bigger and probably cut way more than tj. If cutting is an issue he needs to either up his cutting game or stick to 135.
I see cejudo ragdolling him at 135lb again and lol he (tj) wanted to fight max holloway at 145lb

I think the stoppage was just a tad bit early but not outrageous by any means. At that weight its not exactly like they're throwing KO bombs so they can take a bit more and I'd say there was still a 5-10% chance TJ could have recovered and made it through the round, and there have been plenty of fights where fighters realize that 5-10% chance and then go on to turn it around and win the fight.
I think TJ cursed himself by talking about wanting to go up to 145 and fight Max after. Anytime a fighter is already talking about his next opponent it seems like they are usually overlooking the one they're about to face and it generally doesn't end well.

Awesome pics. Great size. Look thick. Solid. Tight. Keep us all posted on your continued progress with any new progress pics or vid clips. Show us what you got man. Wanna see how freakin' huge, solid, thick and tight you can get. Thanks for the motivation.

That's bull**** and takes away from Cejudo's performance.
He looked like he always does.. the difference is these flyweights are faster than your 135ers so the stuff that you're used to seeing TJ dodge and evade didn't happen.
It's fine if people think the stoppage was a bit early, but TJ got dropped and hurt. At that point, you've got no one to blame but yourself.. and I think TJ was going to be done in 20 more seconds anyway as much as I love TJ. He has been hit and dropped before.. motha****in John Dodson put him out before.

Not surprised Cejudo won as he seemed to have turned a corner in striking and integrating his wrestling when he beat MM, he's probably the best athletic prospect the UFC has ever had and now seems to have a fully developed mma game.
UFC gambled putting Hardy on the co-main and lost big, mainstream sports media doesn't realize that the downed opponent foul is fairly common. His grappling and cardio looked questionable but not unexpected for someone who has only been training a few years.
Overall an exciting card, the Cerrone fight was amazing and would have made for an excellent co-main.

I think people saying it was an early stoppage are basing it on the fact that we have seen worse beatings allowed to continue. In the grand scheme of things and going forward, refs are going to err on the side of caution in stoppages. And it's not like in boxing where one L has a huge impact on a fighter's future and earnings.

looking back at the replay, I'll take back a bit of what I said, it was definitely a bit early. I felt like the ref should have gave a chance for TJ to scramble after getting hit by the second shot on the ground. But obviously I wasn't there. By no means the worst stoppage and was justifiable based on how TJs head kind of went slack, for all we know this beating could have continued for 30 more seconds and eventually stopped.
But TJ has nobody to blame but himself really, he threw a haymaker which caused him to lose his balance, Cejudo pushed him down, Cejudo threw a kick that was partially blocked then Cejudo clipped him behind the ear. TJ tried to scramble then got clipped again on the chin.
It's really hard to say since this fight was so short if whether or not TJ moved well and was fighting how he normally does with the same energy. He seemed to be. Cejudo just capitalized on the opportunity that was given.
I think TJ is gonna campaign for Yamasaki if there is a next year. The guy is more than willing to die in there and who better to do that then Mario.

I've never felt it necessary to argue the validity of a stoppage. If you get rocked and dropped you should expect to lose, you're lucky if the ref lets it go and you manage to somehow come back from that damage.
Earlier on the card Glover was lucky the referee let it go because he looked extremely hurt by the elbows against the cage. Kongo was lucky that the Barry fight wasn't stopped, etc.

watched it late, it wasn't early stoppage, as soon as i saw TJ in the ring it was pretty obvious he was a frail skeleton. not sure what he was thinking. he looked anemic and weak as hell. his effectiveness came from anabolic power and speed. if you lose power and speed you have no offense or defense.

Watched it live and didn't think it was an early stoppage.
Ref ran in as soon as TJ got dropped again.

Dogchit stoppage.
If you're going to make the argument that the ref didn't want TJ to take more damage, at least let TJ get down to 25% capacity. The ref stopped it when he was at 50% capacity. This is the ****ing UFC. Pathetic. Robbing us of potential epic comebacks.

Unfortunately, since the athletic commissions can't afford one, the referee's job is as follows:
1. Check to see if the fighter is intelligently defending himself.
2. Check on the safety of the fighter.
