TRUE DETECTIVE season 3 is legit as fuk so far

Anybody who hasn't watched first 3 episodes because S2 sucked should give S3 a chance.

Woody Harrelson and Matthew Mcconaughey are executive producers for S3, and it definitely has S1 vibes.

Went out Sunday night had a few drink came home and my wife and I are like, let’s watch the new True Detective.

So I navigate to Episode one in the HBO go app and start it up. About 20 mins I’m like “Why the f are they just showing flashbacks to the first season??” This goes on for an hour. The episode ends. We’re both like “wtf, why was the entire first episode a flashback”.

So we cue up episode 2 thinking okay it will get rolling. The flashback crap continues. She’s asleep. I’m like dam A) still watching flashbacks B) brb getting no action tonight. So I’m like “let’s turn this off”.

The next day I have an epiphany - we were rewatching the dam first season.

Watched the first 2 eps of s3 and was impressed. Definitely closer to S1 than S2. I think they realized that they have to...

a) get people who can actually act

And

b) tone down the darkness and keep some humour in the writing.

That was what made S1 so good. The characters were compelling because they seemed real and believable. The ones in S2 were cardboard cutouts and just cringeworthy.

Awesome so far, the S1 vibe is back.

Almost didnt recognize Dorff at first.

Liking Mahershala Ali, he was pretty good on Game of Cards.

Watch the directors notes at end of episode. Really helps, but yeah I found it easier to grasp by end of ep 3.

Funny you say that. When I first went to watch S1 it had already aired. I accidentally watched half of final episode (instead of ep1) before realizing I ****ed up.

Pretty damn impressed so far. Ali and Dorff are a solid duo, and I really like how they went back to the occult dark southern mystery elements from S1. Also really digging the 3 timelines (huge factor of what made S1 great).

Unfortunately, S1 set such an unbelievable standard to live up to..comparing anything to that masterpiece will fall short. But it's an immense improvement over the S2 chitshow. Can't wait for ep4

You can feel there imprint from producer role. They have the detectives driving in car talking scenes. Just check that chit out, I wouldn't promote BS

Season 2 was a confusing jumbled mess, that tried to hard to be introspective.

This season is much more simple

I liked season 2 but Vince Vaughn's dialog was the most ridiculous chit I've ever heard. "Some say its like throwing a hot dog down a hallway. I don't eat pork and my house has open floor plan. Casper knew this..."

3rd episode was decent but first 2 were great. has me a bit concerned since the first 2 were directed by a really good director, and he isn't involved in any other episodes.

S3 is back to the roots of S1 in terms of building it up based on atmosphere tho. isn't really the plot that made the first season so good, it was the creepy atmosphere it built up

LOL at all these miscers watching a teenage girl's drama "YOU" saying it was so good. That **** was trash. True detective is where it's at.
The misc also loved 13 Reasons Why. The misc is a weird autistic place.i haven't watched episode 3 yet but the first 2 episodes of S3 are great so far. Tons of buildup.

What's the show about? True stories? I like "The First 48" type of shows. Shall I watch this? Is it on Hulu or Netflix?

I've tried to watch it. Slow as old people fukking. I've fallen asleep on every episode. No action, drama, eye candy. Just some dead little kids, trailer trash white people parents. The sidekick is some stupid little annoying manlet, and the main guy keeps making me think I'm watching an Allstate commercial.

not yet anyway....

main character is a black Republican who did lead recon in Vietnam.

At one point when he's chatting it up with a girl he says something along the lines of, "....oh don't even TELL me you're a Democrat...."

show is set in the south, so everyone is pretty chill. Plus the 2 of the 3 timelines are from a time where SJWs are non existent as we know them. The current timeline of the show only touches on his family and showing his mental health.

f-cking love this show, too. Thought 1 was awesome and 2 sucked. After the first episode I was hooked. I knew it went back to what worked and the depth of the character is awesome seeing it skip from time period to time period. VERY good acting from ole' dude
