I remember my dad and his motocel friends making the same complaints about Harley since I was a kid, so this has been happening for decades. They refused to change.

They had a good run. RIP in peace. In b4 Harley pivots into wildly successful streetwear clothing brand.

Only in the fantasy world of Harley Davidson would this make any sense.

The japanese bikes are the most technologically advanced on the planet. There is a reason the Hayabusa engine is re-sourced for everything from smart cars to jet skis to airplanes.

The shocks harley puts on its bikes are garbage. The brakes are garbage. The electrical system is garbage. Nothing on it is any good. Just lipstick on a pig with the paint and chrome.
I don't think that you actually read (or understood) what he wrote. He wasn't arguing that a Harley is more reliable than a Honda. Read it again.

I am a Harley fan, I can't lie. But Sonny Barger said that if the Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club was formed today, they would probably be riding Hondas.

"It's always been important for Hell's Angels to ride American-made machines. In terms of pure workmanship, personally I don't like Harleys. I ride them because I'm in the club, and that's the image, but if I could I would seriously consider riding a Honda ST1100 or a BMW. We really missed the boat not switching over to the Japanese models when they began building bigger bikes. I'll usually say, "F*** Harley-Davidson. You can buy an ST1100 and the motherf***** will do 110 miles per hour right from the factory all day long ... While it's probably too late to switch over now, it would have been a nice move because Japanese bikes today are so much cheaper and better built. However, Japanese motorcycles don't have as much personality."- S.B.

The thing is it's Harleys business model to trick these old fools into buying these overpriced motorcycles with substandard parts, then selling them the stage 4 engine and tune for another couple grand. Shocks that work for another couple grand. Louder exhaust, lights that let you actually see whats in front of you, etc etc. So then your 30k bike just cost you 40k and some change to get what you could have got from BMW or Ducati for 20k, or from Japan for 13k.

You release a heavily vintage-inspired design. Strip it of nearly every creature comfort possible, slap a Harley logo on it, make Ryan Gosling the brand ambassador and sell the $1,000 bike for $10,000 msrp. You know how many idiots would go around bragging about their "vintage style'd Harley"? Jesus... make me VP. It's so simple.

The only Harley I'd ever consider getting is the Iron 883. I haven't seen the new one's, but the 2013-15 models are just stupid nasty sexy....!

Or, the Vulcan by Kawasaki. Been on a few of those and those things are butter. Smooth, fast, priced VERY WELL and comfortable as sh**.

I agree, but they are paying for the name, legacy, brand recognition and image. It is the same as Gibson guitars (although I have owned a Les and an SG and never had any of the problems that I read about online). You can get a PRS (and numerous other guitars) for a thousand or so less with the same specs and same or better build quality, but it ain't a Gibson, it ain't the guitar that Jimmy Page, Clapton and Dwayne Allman played. Brando and Dean rode Harleys, and so did all of the 1%ers, who these weekend warriors are pretending to be when they play dress up. You already know this man, I don't have to explain it. My G shock will tell time better than and take a beating better than my Rolex. A lot of younger people are into Harleys and cruisers these days too, but they are buying used or building custom sht for the low.

Why spend $30,000 on a harley when you can buy a used motorcycle of any other brand for like $4,000?

I was gonna go the harley route until I saw what a rip off they are.

Also millenials are too chicken sh!t to ride, that's why all motor cycle sales are chit right now.... even though motorcycles are much better for the environment than cars

You either don't ride or suck at riding.

Females like an uninhibited guy that has confidence and does whatever the fukk he wants. It fulfills the badboy persona that they like. I can't tell you how many times they'll either try to flag me down or something like that. Especially if you stop at a red-light or gas station. Also sometimes chicks that drive faster cars (usually Mustang or Camaro) will try to pace you and will get on it and try and get your attention.

With that said if you are unskilled and are trying to get attention or impress females. You'll most likely crash. Tons of dumbasses get hurt trying to showboat. Also just like with lifting, you'll get more attention from younger guys/teenage boys then females.

Iron 883's are sexy. Especially the blacked out version. But they are small. They are suited for new riders, females and smaller guys.

If you are taller then 5'7 its probably too small. If you google image search 'Iron 883' every promotional picture with a rider either has a female or a guy that's likely in the 5'4-5'6 range. If the Iron 883 is your jam I've seen them lightly used on craigslist for 5-8k. Some of them with less then 10K miles.

I'm not gonna lie, Harley Davidson absolutely killed Harley Davidson. Their prices are literally fuking insane for what you're getting, coupled with the fact that they failed to continue marketing properly.

For the price of one of their pieces of chit you can get a race bike that literally can go over 200mph, has a fully active customizable electronic race suspension, race electronic assists, race brakes, and a quick shifter (yes they are different types of bikes I know) but the point is that chit is actually new cutting edge technology and harley is trying to sell you chit that is old as **** for the same price as top of the line freshly experimental technology.

That would be like some ******* selling a stock mid tier mustang or SUV for the price of a new Ferrari. Other brands are offering better products than Harley's at a fraction of the cost and those type of bikes aren't even that brands main focus. A name/reputation can only hold you afloat for so long if you start going full cuck

On the note of old technology. I don't necessarily think HD is dying as a brand. I think more people are enjoying the used market. You can buy a 10 year old bike with damn near the exact same tech. as a new bike. Have a good mechanic give it a once over, and its just as reliable. And your getting it for 3-10K depending on the model. As opposed to spending 15-35K brand new.

I see more Harleys then anything else on the road. The thing is people are literally still riding bikes from the 90s and early 2000s without ever needing to upgrade to a newer one. They arguably have more character then any other cruiser style motorcycle so I don't ever see them completely dying out.

Exactly brah, and that is the main reason they are failing. They aren't actually adding any new chit to their bikes so no reason to buy a new one. For the sport bike companies they try to do major updates on their bikes (with new technology) every 2-5 years which gives people reason to sell their old bikes and get the new ones. Harley Davidson could be spending the money on researching and incorporating things like electronic active suspensions and chit like that to justify the price and the upgrade, but they are choosing not to.
