Sambo as it includes striking and grappling. Probably the most complete martial art that there is.

Krav Maga, because it allows every single move that is outlawed in every martial art you listed, because the outlawed moves are the most violent and work the best in the real world - Eye gouge, nut kick, etc.

2nd on the list would be jui jitsu, as it is wrestling with submissions. You can dictate where your opponent is, and if not, if you are on the bottom, you are still trained to win by submission.

3rd would be freestyle wrestling, the point would be to dictate where your opponent is, then you can ground and pound. Freestyle allows you to attack the legs or upperbody.

4th would be Judo and Greco Roman, both are essentially the same, upper body throws, but Judo has submissions mixed in, no leg moves though.

5. Sambo would be next, a well rounded martial art.

6. Thai Boxing - 8 points of contact, 2 fists, 2 feet, 2 elbows, 2 knees

7. Boxing - First strikes are likely to be by fists, or defensive moves dodging fists

8 Taekwondo. (70% kicking but practice is point-moves, very little full contact fighting experience)

Editing list to include Judo, greco and sambo

As intrigued and impressed as I am by Jiu Jitsu , wrestling has proven to be the dominate force in most MMA fights. In a street fight... man who knows... if I am losing I am not above laying a 2x4 across your dome so does any of that other BS really matter?

Joe Rogan was a National Champ in Tai Kwon Do. Although he knows a few good moves, he whole-hardheartedly admits he was totally destroyed in any and all kickboxing matches. It's why he switched to Jui-jitsu when aspiring to learn actual, realistic self-defense.

Ehhh...kind of tough to pick just one, but I'd probably go with Judo if I had to (assuming its Judo that focuses heavily on the newaza), because then would be mean solid takedowns And good ground game + submissions.

IMO, I've always believed Wrestling is the best base/foundation, but due to lack of submissions I would have to give the nod to Judo if I could only pick one. Also, would choose Judo over BJJ due to it being far superior in terms of takedowns. Also, for straight self defense the throws in Judo are pretty good to use and end the situation without having to go to the ground and take that risk. Don't know quite enough about Sambo to compare in depth.

Boxing and Muay Thai are great too, but wouldn't choose them in this case.

TaeKwonDo has the hardest kicks but if take downs or grappling is involved its a loss. If you mean to surprise someone with a one shot knockout head kick taekwondo is good lol.

Still doesn't hurt to have a good base before you start laying 2x4. Wrestling is good, but IMO it's something you need to start training when you're young (like highschool) so you can have that explosiveness.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit softly.

Anyone who posted anything positive about taekwondo and Krav Maga is an idiot who has never fought full contact VS anyone good and has no clue about fighting and should STFU and be laughed at and negged.

Sambo does NOT include strikes. Only Combat Sambo does. Sambo is basically poor man’s judo. Combat Sambo is poor man’s MMA.

MMA is the only serious answer to this thread. If MMA for some retarded reason isn’t allowed, then Combat Sambo is the obvious answer. Anyone saying otherwise is a moron, since any world champion boxer gets his **** kicked in by any half decent kickboxer, those fights took place many times in K1, you MUST, and this is important to grasp MUST strike with both hands and feet AND grapple if you want to stand the best chance in a fight VS someone good.

I agree on the points of Sambo, which is why is was ranked low on my list.

What is bad about Krav Maga though? It is essentially, "anything goes", unlike any MMA rules or traditional martial arts. Eye gouges and groin strikes are encouraged in Krav Maga, because they are effective and potentially cause permanent damage, which is the reason why they're banned from MMA.....because they are too effective!

So, explain why Krav Maga is ineffective compared to anything else.

Edit: You can't be serious that MMA with no rules (Krav Maga) is less effective than MMA with rules.

You don't apply those things full contact, and the whole "I'll just gouge your eyes or bite you (even though I've never actually applied these things against a resisting opponent)" type mentality is largely a major cope if you think you are going to use those against people actually trained and who apply their stuff full contact/against resisting opponents regularly.

Krav Maga is almost always just practicing choreographed shyt.

If we're talking about practicality, boxing.

Just like Han Solo, hit first, hit correctly, leave immediately.

The longer you spend in a fight, the larger the risk of becoming seriously injured is. Spending time placing somebody in a submission position or wrestling for position on the ground is more time for his buddies to come, and more time exposing yourself in general.

That being said, grappling/BJJ is an important skill set and the only reason I didn't pick it was because because I think it is more practical to nuetralize your opponent before any real struggle begins. But if a struggle does ensue, BJJ may fare you a little better in some scenarios.

You do realize that the reason why certain moves are banned from MMA is that they can cause immediate, permanent damage, and ruin the spectacle of the 'fight'. Why do you think it's such a big deal when Jon Jones does his repetitive eye pokes? It's an easy cheap shot. If eye pokes weren't illegal, Jones could do those all day long and win easily. It's why it's banned from MMA.

Street fighting, or no rules fighting, is completely different from sanctioned MMA fights. Any professional MMA fighter will tell you that getting slammed on concrete is night and day from getting slammed on a mat or in the octagon..

Serious question, have you ever done any combat sport in a competition? Have you had a street fight and compared the 2?

Yes to both, what you're saying is the coping I was referring to - especially since the question was choosing one style. We aren't talking about being a skilled MMA guy or whatever combined with gouging or groin striking. Jon Jones doesn't spend his time training choreographed Krav Maga drills, and if he did he has a shytton of other training/skills/experience to enable him to much better use such tactics (as opposed to some Krav Maga guy).

Anyone who thinks MMA is the same as streetfighting, is as out of touch.

Here's an example as recent as last week.

Greg Hardy, a new UFC fighter, was in a battle with another UFC fighter recently. He was getting beat. He had his opponent on his knees, and he broke the rules, by kneeing his opponent in the head while his opponent was on his knees, knocking him out, at least to the point of his opponent not being able to continue the fight. Edit. He lost the fight due to an 'illegal' move by the refs, but in a street fight, he would have dominantly won the fight.

This proves my point. The very 'illegal' moves that are in MMA, discredit it as championing the absolute toughest street fighter, as the streets have no rules. This move would not have been illegal, and Greg Hardy would have walked away the champ.

Again, the best martial art for street fighting is that which has no rules and practices with no rules. Knees to the head when down, anything goes.

The point of Krav Maga is to take all of the best moves from all martial arts, and not disgard all the moves that those martial arts consider " illegal", not unlike Bruce Lee's method of ****** Kun Do, which takes the best of everything and neglects the rest.

Every single martial art you listed in the OP has glaring weaknesses. Only an idiot would pick one of those for a sole system to be the best street fighter.
