Same with a man. This is a fact, not an opinion.so explain it, what is your theory oh clever one if it isn't hormones
You're a parrot who doesn't understand what they are saying nor what argument you're trying to make. You have made many statements with no understanding of why you've made them. Your points on insulin for example, if you took the time to understand what insulin is, why it works the way it does and what it's capabilities are you'd have a much better understanding of what you're trying to say.

I fast daily (~16 hours) throughout the year (with the exception of maybe the week of Christmas w/ my family) and it helps me stay lean consistently even when I don't workout much.
I'll admit I get hungry around 9am but if I get past that point it's pretty easy to make it to 3pm.

This is literally parallel to the old argument in bodybuilding/strength training where somebody says "getting bigger will make you stronger" then somebody retorts "well if that were true, how come that 130 lb guy can bench more than that 160 lb guy, therefore it isn't true". While ignoring the fact that if both guys gained 10 lbs they would be stronger in the lifting sense than they were at 10 less lbs. We've also seen studies between different diets where insulin levels were drastically different, but both groups have lost similar amounts of lbm.
Same thing here, are we just going to argue that eating say 500 less calories than your maintenance isn't going to make you drop fat? If you suddenly drop to 1500 calories from 2500 calories your body isn't going to suddenly drop maintenance calories by 40% to meet that amount to the point where you stop dropping weight unless in dire circumstances as mentioned in the studies that have been posted and referenced. Alot of this is due to weight loss, and the simple fact that a lighter person is going to burn less calories, so maintenance cals dropping will also happen under the proposed framework of Dr.Fung.

IF is kinda bullchit. There's no magic behind it, you reduce your window for calorie intake and some people, not all, simply skip a meal and that's where the calorie reduction happens.
Obviously if you meal prep, you're just going to eat your allotted calories per day, so IF won't do chit. But for the plebs out there that aren't counting calories, they usually end up at -1 meal per day.

I did it for a while but I didn't notice anything different. I know it's supposed to increase growth hormone, but I didn;t see any difference and I hated having to cram in huge amounts of calories into that little window (I was working an active job when I tried it).
You can be lean all year round w/out it. (Bruce lee was super lean and did the old-fashioned 6 meal a day approach). Furthermore, a lot of these IF people seem to brag about how they can eat pizza, ice cream, beer, etc. like it's about how much junk food they can eat and still be ripped.
That being said, I might give another go if all these "life extension properties" "enhanced cognitive function" etc. are true. I just didn't like having to shovel all that food down at once

"Both intermittent and continuous energy restriction resulted in similar weight loss, maintenance and improvements in cardiovascular risk factors after one year. However, feelings of hunger may be more pronounced during intermittent energy restriction."

The punchline, the only "magical" diet is the one that allows you to feel/perform optimally while helping you achieve your short and long-term goals. Bonus points if this is also sustainable, which is vital...

People too focused on fat loss here, fasting is about health benefits. Losing weight is energy restriction, can get fat with intermittent fasting if you eat too much.

I have a very intellectually demanding job and I have to be thinking and reacting quickly all day. Fasting has noticeably slowed my cognition to the point that I can no longer do it if I have to work.

Your actual maintenance is different depending on what makes up those calories. Spiking your insulin multiple times throughout the day is going to mean you gain weight at a lower total caloric intake than if you don't.

I'm not arguing it's not people's own fault what they weigh. I'm arguing that the fundamental beliefs (stay away from fats, eat a ton of carbs) is TERRIBLE advice.

this one is gonna blow your mind, you know what other macro causes an insulin spike? Protein. not a small insulin spike either, so much so that those with hypoglycemia can't eat protein only meals without blood sugar issues. This should make protein just as fattening as carbs no? Why is protein so damn resistant to being stored as fat compared to the other 2 macros if it alone causes an insulin spike?
When insulin is present in your blood stream it's impossible for your body to burn fat correct? It also causes excess glucose to be converted to lipids and stored as adipose tissue correct? Protein converts to glucose when not able to be utilized so with the insulin present it should in theory be immediately turned into lipids as well correct? So how the fck is protein less likely to be stored as fat if fat intake alone doesn't cause insulin to be released?
