Too bad you’re keeping Cole instead of Kershaw

Oh yeah? Watch me make the playoffs without starting one starting pitcher all year.

Cole

2016 & 2017 in the NL combined 4.12 ERA, 312 IP, 296 Ks

2018 in the AL 2.88 ERA 276 Ks

N*gga nearly matched his Ks of 2016 and 2017 combined while switching to a league with the DH and cutting his ERA almost in half

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bigger regression candidate

Just waiting on LG, Spaz and Steeze (thoughts and prayers brah, Goldy's in a better place now). Roll call didn't take as long as I thought it would, looking like we should have everyone well before draft.

He will regress some, but I still see him hitting 20-25 homers with a .260-.280 average. His approach last season was to jump on first pitch soft stuff and crush it to the opposite field or just flat out smash first pitch fastballs. We all know he has the swing and miss potential, but he will be entering his physical prime this season. He will be a 20/20 candidate and could possibly go 30/20. We shall see what happens this season and that’s my take.

Has one of your players been labeled as a regression candidate?

Do you have no valid defense to support your players abilities?

No worries! Just change the subject and attack the other person instead!

Waiting on your response why Cole won’t regress though

His numbers for the upcoming season are between 14-16 wins and anywhere between 6-8 losses with a 3.29 ERA, WHIP 1.15, and K's between 230-240 with an average of 200 innings worked. I saw him pitch twice last year in Houston and in both games he had double digit K's easy. I don't know what the pitching coaches do in Houston, but his secondary pitches were filthy and his fastball had more pop. Shoot Verlander found the fountain of youth last year and led the league in K's with 290 in 214 innings pitched. If anything I thought Cole would've struggled last season coming from the N.L. to the A.L. Who knows maybe this season with video and hitters making adjustments, he will struggle a bit more. I know last year his ERA was up after the break, or was that due to him being so good early in the season?

If i remember correctly. The astros are heavily analytical

And i believe they throw a lot more offspeed. Perhaps they focus on spin rate?

I also believe what analytics are showing is fastballs up and offspeed low are most effective. This is what glasnow did with the rays after coming over from PITT. He said the rays were much more analytical and i remember they wanted him to use his 100mph up high.

Im guessing cole is using more offspeed as thats what the analytics say to do

Agree with you both. To your point about his second half, Speed, I think his numbers this year are more in line with them. In the second half his K rate went down and he wasn't pitching late in as many games. If you recall, his first half was just ridiculous and not sustainable. He had like five 10+ K games in his first six starts or something. He's due for a "correction" this year and your numbers are generally where I'd project him to be at.

Krazy, I remember reading somewhere (fangraphs?) that Astros' pitchers tend to increase their spin rate by a ton. For Cole the spin on his fast balls basically made it a fast-breaking ball. All of that, in addition to his pedigree and being a FA next year bodes well for Cole.

So yes..he's probably a regression candidate along the same line Yelich is - won't top their career year but still elite.

4 people need to complete the poll: LG, Mel, Steeze, & Spaz

And

4 people need to post their preliminary keepers (same 5): LG, Mel, Steeze, & Spaz

We have time so not pushing anyone of these people. Posting more so I can keep a record.
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."
