Season was good, finale wasnt your normal one.

for everyone saying why didnt they mention the p3d0 sh!t and not dwell into it, well because there was none. They are detectives , so they assume, deduce, educated guessing, conjecture ....

The daughter thingy was out of place indeed.
the phone call to the police in ep6 , who tf was that ... a troll caller?

i championed this season to all my buddies and even commented on this thread saying how good it was. then last night happened. maybe there are other examples but for me this was the first time a show was very good and then issued a finale that was so bad it made me regret the entire season.

honestly this sums it all up very nicely lol.

so purple hays goes out searching with an address he's waited 30 years for, and doesn't even call roland? then shows up and his silly memory loss kicks in RIGHT at that moment. brilliant. so deep. cool thanks.

oh and how perfectly convenient he bumps into the gardener guy then just HAPPENS to read the ONE page about the stupid kid who liked julie when he was 7 years old. then ghost wife appears and fills in the details for him.

so weak. man i take back what i said earlier. anybody thinking about giving this a chance please don't bother. this was so disappointing.

Agreed season 2 was all over the place. Way too many storylines. Season 3 is top notch though.

This sequence right here ^ ruined the entire season. Let’s do a quick info dump to wrap everything up because we wasted the last 4 episodes on BS.
That said, Dorff and Ali were great this season

agreed although i thought the true death of the season was the reveal of 'Mister June' or whatever his name was. that whole scene where he turns out to be a well-intended old man just trying to help Julie get by completely killed everything for me. By the end of that conversation i'm like WELLP we can wrap this.

i mean what was even the point of bringing Merle (ok, "Hoyt," Michael Rooker) into the series? What kinda nonsense was that with the two of them on a mountainside and he basically says "well i don't know sht so that's that"

season 1 overall was a very good show, but IMO people give its finale way too much credit. all three seasons of this show have showcased excellent acting by all of the main characters, but the writing for the show overall is just mediocre.

I don't think you understood the finale. It was not confirmed that the blonde at the end is Julie/Mary. Wayne was merely searching for an ending that was preferable to him. He didn't like the ending he received from the nun, read a page of his wife's book, and basically thought up another possibility (although extremely unlikely) that he went to investigate.

The ending is ambiguous. We don't know if Wayne was right or not. Probably not since, as you said, it's highly unlikely that he would just stumble upon the correct clues like that. They are just what triggered that theory of his.

if that's the case that's just as wack.

so either way it's a lame finish.

If anything, this makes it worse. Based on this explanation, We wasted 8 episodes and got no closure at all. Period. Great show I tell ya.

It was mostly just to showcase certain aspects of his personality. And how he apparently didn't want the investigation to be over.

Really though this season was too much of a character study. Not enough plot. The acting was good, but I don't watch a crime series for that.

And what was the point of Roland going to the biker bar to start chit? Was he just trying to get the bikers to beat the gay out of him once it was obvious his loverboy willie mays Hayes wasn't interested?

Felt guilty about Tom getting killed. Or maybe about killing that guy. Yeah was probably after he killed that guy and wanted to fight/get beat up.

Lost hbo a few weeks ago so i only saw the first 4. Seems like I didn't miss much tho. Last part I saw was the girl being at the convenience store, and the trash man shoot out was about to begin. At that point I thought it was pretty good,

This. Most of the show and the last episode was dragging filler and the resolution was so phucking anticlimactic it's funny really. Watching the old Hays just stumble around taking forever to say or do anything was driving me insane half the phucking time aswel.

It's such a shame coz the first episodes it started off so well and I really got season 1 vibes but the ending was legit just like an ending to some phucking romance movie. They could have done so much with how the plot was setup in the first episode and the two amazing actors but they turned it into a completely boring chitshow of filler dialogue and memories reminding me more of some marriage drama than a detective/thriller.

I've said it here before. I am 100% sure it was just some bs fan service they were doing since everyone loves season 1 so they just put it in there as a cameo. I don't think it had any relevance to the plot at all.

And what about the weird hookup vibe between Hayes son and that reporter, then all of the sudden he has a wife and kids appear out of nowhere?

What in the actual fuk?

It's like they had some whole elaborate story plotted out and someone pulled the budget and they just wrote a neat little ending explaining away EVERYTHING? FOR NOTHING?

That cop really got tortured to death because he didn't want to give up that the drunk mom adopted/sold her daughter to the rich family? At that point the dad was already dead so no like it was even illegal?

I thought it happened in 1990? Maybe I missed something.

Maybe he was just frustrated that it's hard to find love as a gay man. He was eyeing that biker guy and got pissed off after it wasn't reciprocated and seeing how easy even ugly straight people have it in comparison.

He didn't talk bc he didn't want to go to jail, which he would've for a long time if he confessed.

Hayes son was cheating on his wife. He talked to Wayne about it before.
