I met way more chitty, degenerate scumbags managing retail stores and in corporate america than i ever did when i was running tradie contracting companies or working at car lots.
There are plenty of good people working in cars but customers take these guys trying to make a living like its any worse than people selling gym memberships, cell phones or real estate.

Office cucks and retail ****s want to look down on tradies and people who actually work for a living while they let the neighbor phuck their wife and their kids dye their hair purple. I never knew that men got their butt holes waxed and their fingernails done till i started working in retail but you guys want to knock on the dude who swings a hammer or turns wrenches for a living lol

The same sins you talk about are also rampant among people in positions of higher class and sometimes their affects while may be fewer in count can have a larger impact.

Profit motive, which is the problem with capitalism.

Cars are a mystery and they're essential so they're one of the top ways to rape people, and they may not even know they're being raped.

Been to a local shop twice where they've quickly diagnosed and fixed issues on my suv within minutes without charge.

On the other hand, took my moto to the dealer to get the chain replaced and they inspected the whole bike and hit me with a $1700 maintenance estimate lol

See my thread in the automotive section lol.

I have 18 yr old car.
I'm getting charged $1100 for Upper Control Arms and Wheel alignment. I searched for upper control arms and they good ones can be had for $150 each.

He also gave me a $950 estimate for new calipers, brakes, and rotors. I'm really tempted to do it all myself. Car misc gave me a bit of confidence not to be scared working on my own car

I got both control arms on my last car replaced for under 400 dollars and an alignment is like 100, you're getting torched if you pay anywhere near 1100

My Audi A6 is $90 and you only change the oil every 10,000 miles. Compare that to a Honda at $50 changed every 3-5,000 miles.

How much should an alternator cost to replace?

I live in an apartment complex so literally not even allowed to work on my car here. Lol, now it won't start and it was showing signs of bad alternator before (dim and flickering lights, radio cutting in and out). Stupid because I just changed the battery and now its drained and dead. My car insurance will tow it for free but it HAS to be to a certified shop.

Car is a 73' Chevy Nova SS. I'm thinking it should be around $500 or so.

The point of every single business on earth: provide as little as possible for the most amount of money possible.

Why would auto shops be any different?

False. MOST people in the world don't own a car and they still survive. Cars are luxuries. The only reason they seem essential in the US is because car companies spent massive amounts of money to make you feel that way. Roads/Highways/Interstates were made for companies to move goods across the country and to sell more cars to people in general not because people actually needed them.

Animal surgery is another matter, and typically there are a few 'specialists' for each different breed to the point where people will fly halfway across the country to have a certain vet perform on their pet.
