11 years into a "career" and have a strong wtf am I doing moment
Do any of the careercels here ever stop and question whether or not they made the right career choice? I ask because I've been doing the same type of work for 11 years now and recently started becoming very unmotivated, bored and unfulfilled. My reasons for staying are: job demand, understanding the industry, regular paycheck and great benefits. I then analyze why I'm working and it's to pay for living necessities and amenities which is great, but I get ZERO enjoyment from the work. Is this careertour over for me or am I in too deep to make any changes now?
cliffs:
same work for 11 years
incredibly bored and unfulfilled
thinking of starting over
am I too late?

I have this feeling all the time. The only thing that distracts me from this thought is miscing at work.
At the same time, I am not sure what my passion is. I wanted to be in law enforcement back in the day but it's too late now.

I quit after 15 years. Had the fortune of financial independence at that point though.

My job is pretty unfulfilling. But I make good money and I can telecommute when needed which is a massive perk having kids with snowdays ect. I'm ok with the situation because this job makes my life outside of work much better.

Welcome to the machine.
A lot of people have this after the first 2 years.
View your job as the x hours per week that pay for doing what you like. Find your hobbies and passions again and enjoy them outside work. Too many people give these up over time and I think that can directly leave you in an unfulfilled state.
That keeps me going. My hobbies would pay horribly so the tradeoff is a boring azz job that my contributions at dont matter (pushing paperwork in an office).

yes sometimes. When I read stories of Wall Street brokers, or hedge fund managers, I regret not taking my studies more serious in college, and regret not going down that path .
But my current job helps pay the bills for me and my fiancé, is flexible, and has a good opportunity for growth. I also like to think, I would not have met my fiancé if I was living in New York or somewhere else, so its worth it.

Such is life for an officecel, but on a serious note either shoot for a promotion or side step into a similar role in a different industry.
Gotta take into account re-training, going thru newbie chit again with your peers etc. Do you really want to do that for perhaps different pay, scenery?

I know exactly how you feel. Ive been working as a design engineer for 11 years. Its not what I wanted to do, but what I could get a job doing when I graduated. Its not bad, pay is pretty good, work isnt all that hard and Im doing great here but the stress level is pretty high and its not what I want to do with my life.
They keep trying to push me into management, and I dont want to deal with people. Hell I dont even want to keep doing this because its all run like crap (been with 3 companies and its all the same BS)
Id love to start over doing something I actually enjoy, but my pay would go down drastically. So Im left with staying where I am and working my ass off and invest until I can pretty much retire in 10 years. Then Ill get a stupid job doing something easy and fun.
Seeing the blank faces on some of the guys that have been here for 20-30 years...nope, dont want any of that.

If you are not self employed, your work can be viewed as a means to do the things you do enjoy. Its a nice hypothetical to think everyone can CEO10k/day and be extremely fulfilled, but it's rarely the case.
Ask yourself OP, what do you dooutsideyour work that makes you feel meaningful or contributes to your views/society? If the answer is vague, might want to address that.

I have that feeling also, then I got a notice and am unemployed in August and wished I had a fkng job .
Health is total chit , and the combination of that and being old put you in a very dangerous place , so I’d be happy to be in your position

It happens to the best of us bruh!! I was about 5y in myself , was just having a fkd up day and all of the sudden this WTF feeling came over me... started questioning why I had ever wasted so much time and energy for this $hit... ended up with a pretty $hitty attitude and cost me a couple of jobs, real talk. But I think a lot of it was who I was working for... I had couple of humungous cocksuckers for bosses and had zero respect for them. Finally settled in with a company who employed good people and everything fell into place.
