this thread is hilarious because OP thinks hes smart. majority of jobs put people in a position where they can write off car payments up to 50-70% when leasing a car. but OP wouldnt know that because hes probably got an entry level position and limited intelligence. good job bro

Lol at paying $1k (minimum) a month to drive.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

step 1: take out 80k loan at .99% APR for 60 months to purchase sweet new car
step 2: use that same 80k to purchase shares of SPY, receive a 39% return rate over that 60 months
step 3: this idiot enjoys his new car and profits from using someone else's cheap money

Yeah but I get to drive a chad car that’s fast and with comfortable payments.

JUST LMFAO at people putting large ass down payments on their cars. Literally throwing money away

Cali is car culture. I already know I’m the person that will like to trade up to newer better cars. We all have something we like to blow money on.

Love enjoying beautiful California roads/canyons with a solid car

Damn, 21% ROI for at least 2 years, if you're this good at investing why are you a janitor at a hospital instead of being in finance and making millions?

Isn't leasing a car a good idea if you make decent enough money and want your cash going towards other investments. I know people that lease and pay monthly, use the car for a year or so then swap, get a new car.

I drive a 2018 Camry SE.

Looks good, gets the job done and will last me years to come while I work on advancing my career.

I don't need anything fancy, and in fact, neither do you.

I look at it like this; my subaru costed me $15,000 over time. I got it in '13 for $8,000 with 80K miles. Drove it to 120K, spent $7,000 on maintenance before '16. Somebody slammed into me after running a red and insurance gave me the shaft. Ended up with just enough to afford a lease. I had a credit score of 501, and a good friend of mine who worked at Toyota helped me secure a Tier 1 rate.

New Camry cost $2,000 up front. I got it in November '17 and did not have to pay my first bill until January. So far I have paid $3,500, for a total of $5,500.

I will pay probably around 4-5K more over the course of this lease for a total of $9,500.

I also believe that I will probably just decide to buy this car at the end of the lease depending on what the monthly payment is.

ROI: Have a good car that looks nice enough, and have also brought my credit score to 750 over the course of this lease.

People that have a high income, great credit and the ability to make a fortune investing very frequently choose a lease.

You get a new car every year and almost never need to deal with the hassle of fixing stuff.

In general people in a position like this have a lot of options and this of course brings on the insanely angry cope.

Every week there seems to be a tread about:

BRB its stupid to buy a car outright
BRB its stupid to lease a car
BRB its stupid to have a car payment
BRB its stupid to buy an expensive car
BRB its stupid to buy a fast car
BRB its stupid to modify your car

and on and on and on......

Most people who are smart with money don’t make blanket statements because it’s all determined by how someone’s wealth is made.

I just got a new GMC Yukon. I decided to put 30k down. I could have bought it outright, I could have leased, I could have done a lot of things. It made most sense to sell a bit of stock due to raising dividend rates and how it effected my monthly income (still going up despite a small sell off) but if I sold enough to outright buy the car it would have lowered my monthly a bit. So I’m making payments but still seeing an overall increase in my monthly cash vs if I had sold enough to outright buy.

Leasing was also a good option because if I saw potential for the stock to continue to raise say how it did a year ago I would have been better off selling nothing and just letting it go up in value while I eat payments.

TLDR; blanket statements that don’t take into account how people’s money are made just make you wrong and look like a prick most of the time.

That's because everything listed here is a potentially stupid decision depending on your circumstances.

I mean I went to a financial adviser a few years back to see what they are all about, and by the end of my first consultation i was already being offered a job by the company, and they were trying to invite me to dinners and essentially wine and dine me. but i decided I like my cushy job better doing more meaningful work.

nice deflection though

Brb paying FULL taxes +fees - Private sales? If I don't feel like dropping too much cash, I just go to my credit union and get auto loan before purchase
Brb loses 2-3k value as soon as you drive off the lot - Don't buy new cars from dealers?

My last couple of car/motorcycle purchases

2015 Yamaha FZ-07: Bought for 5500, sold for 5900
2002 Honda S2000: Bought for 11,250, sold for 14,000
2015 Kawasaki Ninja 300: Bought for 2500, sold for 3000

I currently drive a LBP s2000, which I can easily sell for more than I bought it for (probably 2k more if trying to sell quick, and 3-4k more if I have patience)

Brb monthly payments - not too bad if you don't have terrible credit
Brb interest - like 1.9% - 2.5% lol
Brb “but my warranty” (lol) - I never take car to dealer so never need warranty anyway
Brb need to have full coverage insurance (no option) - not so bad if you have a good driving record, I pay like 500 every 6 months on 2 cars

ALSO: yearly mile limitations lol - lol at leasing

30k down... son.

As soon as you drove off the lot you lost about 10k srs.

And if you total that car, you think the insurance will refund you that 30k? No. They will pay the market value of the car, not what you paid for it.

ZERO down payment crew.

All in all cars are terrible investments. I honestly thinking leasing is the way to go but it’s very easy to go over miles in LA

I don’t think you understand what I was saying. 30k is less then 1% of my net worth I really don’t care. It’s about what makes sense for each individuals finances and where the money comes from. What I would care about is my monthly spending going down from a 1k a month payment instead of my 500 a month payment which is ~ how much my dividends are going up this year. If I foresaw similar growth to last year I wouldn’t have even bought the car probably or considered financing since I would make more in stock value going up, but then I would be dealing with less monthly spending money again.

lol you all a retarded and live like cave-men

No wonder none of you can pull women

You have to learn to enjoy yourself

Not everything is about investing

I live in a rented property

I pay £2,300 Rent Per calender month

That gives me everything

Boiler breaks? No problem call landlord
Damage to wall ? No Problem call landlord

I could own house if i live in poverty but thats not me.. I live a life to enjoy.

Go on holiday 4x a year

and save £10k Per year.

I drive a Mercedes-Benz AMG C43 Premium Pack

but you lot rather live in a cave then invest £££££ and when you're 50 and your cock doesn't work what is that 100k useful for?

Plus when you look back at when you were 20, 30, 37 and all you remeber is working and not the memories. What waste of life
I'm 24 not 48 lol

So you put 30k down and you are still paying 500/month? What was the price of the car? and you interest rate? Term length?

I think you got royally screwed

Yeah, pass up the opportunity to make more money doing nothing versus having to earn every dollar the hard way, through brown sweat and tears because you have to maintain your asswiping quota for the day or risk a formal reprimand. Totally believeable.

There is never a good financial reason to own a car that's more than like £5K - unless its for business purposes.

No matter how you dress it up, its for vanity/ego.

If you can afford it and it makes you happy, then go for it - but its not the best financial decision.

edit: thats why Warren Buffet drives a beat up old honda or something

How?

When I purchase or lease a car I think of the money as gone not as investment?

The same way you buy milk, you're not thinking "oh wait If I drink One Pint it will decrease value by Y amount"
I'm 24 not 48 lol

I often come across his dilemma. I absolutely love the Nissan GTR.. more than anything. Can get a used one for 70k. Its literally the only materialistic thing I want in my life. I have ~$95k in a retirement account, have a house that I rent out. Icouldget one if I wanted to now.. But Id rather have my assets pay for it long term.

I dont want to be 70 with 1 million just sitting around.
