The policy doesn't make sense...? Surely there's more too it?

When you reduce taxes you're doing the same thing, but incentivizing working still. If you just get $1000 with no work, no reason to work then, a lot of people can get by on 12k a month living NEET, that's like enough for a tiny house and food after a year or 2.
Then to combat the loss in productivity, you automate everything and let big corps monopolize further and tax them? uwot?

Can only see massive inflation, taxation, or huge corporate capitalism with little chance for small businesses. Can also see more drug addictions. It's just socialism.

Either 4Chan is running a huge OP to get him nominated and turn, or is actually succumbing to the NEET style.

I'll admit economics if not my forte but how will $1000 for households lead to inflation under Yangs plan? He's not saying to print it out of thin air, he's say to use money that otherwise would have been appropriated for military spending and instead giving it to the people.

In major metropolitan cities (where the vast majority of the US population lives) people pay more than $12,000 a year on rent alone, and $1000/month would simply allow those people to live normally instead of struggling paycheck-to-paycheck. Maybe people can use that extra money to pay off debt/loans and ultimately give them more capital to perhaps save for a house or go out to eat more often and various other ventures that will help boost the economy. An extra $1000 isn't "ballin' out of control, its buying christmas presents, being able to afford car payments, you know things people would have bought anyway, but with credit cards throwing themselves into debt.

and I realize the biggest fear is government dependency, but we're going to be headed down this route regardless due to automation. Even if Yang crashes and burns, some other politician or maybe even Yang himself if he decides to run again will eventually get elected.

This is 4chans (particularly /pol/) thinking;

Who's living off of only 12k a year?

Anyways, the problem he's addressing is that advancing technology will render many jobs obsolete, and there aren't nearly enough decent jobs being created to compensate for that. Can't incentivize work when there isn't enough available. Many of the chitty jobs that are available don't pay enough for anyone to make a living, and if you force companies to pay more by let's say raising the minimum wage, they'll instead invest more in technology to replace those jobs since it's cheaper that way, thereby making the problem even worse. By giving people universal income instead, the $1000 can supplement whatever chitty wages they're making, thereby allowing them to make a living and buy more chit, which is what keeps capitalism going.

I'm not sure if it's actually doable, but what's the alternative? More homeless people and more crime?

shame he's not wang, or we could get 1k wang
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to him on Joe Rogan. He makes some very compelling arguments honestly.

A huge thing that I think needs to be pointed out is he said if you're already getting govt assistance like food stamps u don't get 1000 on top of that: u don't qualify for the dividend if you're getting more than 1000 already. But say u get 700 in food stamps you would get 300 from the dividend then.

Biggest problem I see with the proposal is everyone and their mom literally wanting to immigrate here for it.

Overall he's a very intelligent and logical person though if you listen to him.
This would require:
1) no anchor babies
2) naturalized citizens family members would be disqualified from claiming it

Some estimations place costs around $539 billion per year, less than the $988 billion spent on Social Security last year.

It gets much, much cheaper and the reason it does is that about half of Americans are already receiving government income support in some fashion, Yang’s plan would call for every American to received $1,000 in basic income each month. Those already receiving that amount in welfare and government-sponsored programs would have the option to choose between one program or the other, thereby reducing the welfare budget.

Accprding to some estimations UBI would add $2.5 trillion in economic growth and 4.6 million jobs, which in turn would lead to up to $600 billion added revenue, citing statistics from the Roosevelt Institute.

Cliffs: we already give away a s**t tonne of money, lets make it more efficient.

If it applies to working able persons... It's just a tax cut and that's not as bad.
Many people can live with 12k. It'd be a simple life, but it's possible. Living with parents, low rent areas, mobile home, tiny home, etc... Many would pursue that lifestyle too which would drive price up for those low cost commodities and the cycle continues.
If a hike in minimum wage can cause inflation and higher rent... then imagine adding 12k on top to everyone.

Anyways, I guess yea 4Chan might be onto the 3rd option: world is gonna burn anyways + $1000

In the first industrial evolution jobs didn't exactly disappear they were just reallocated to other roles, but I fear with the rise of the robot/machine and AI, there actually just won't be enough jobs to go around.

If we actually get to that point as a society we should rejoice because it would allow us to further pursue our passions and bring true happiness to our lives. That said, this is America we are talking about, the home of the workaholic and I see very little possibility in getting MORE free time and the average person becoming less productive.

Let's see what happens!

once again it is basically a tax cut since those on welfare wouldn't get the $1,000/month 'Freedom Dividend'.

Now tell me are you against a tax cut on the general (non welfare) population?
