The worst part about tactics is you only get 4 moves per day. I'm stuck on 700 because it takes forever to level up. Especially when you mess up half the time like me lol.

Just reached 800 for the first time. I would like to thank Bobby Fischer for publishing his chess book, gayle for helping me with advice and my sensei muzzlrpress for always takes his time to beat me with the help of a chess engine but pushing me to the next level.

So far still no sign of golfpants whatsoever. Where you at brah?

Did the guy just give up mid game?

You let him destroy your pawn structure early on with those double isolated pawns. It was maybe a little early to start getting wild with the rook, especially by putting it on the same diagonal as his bishop. We’re the same level so take my critique with a grain of salt.

Yeah. He was at a disadvantage slightly, but I didn't expect him to resign.I was black on that one. Also, increased tactics has been paying off.

I liked white’s Ba3 idea to prevent you from castling and put some pressure on your clock and position. As black you gotta take a long hard look at one move prior to that, so you don’t allow that in the future, and so that you do that to your opponents as well.

Generally conventional wisdom is that until you are 2000 or so, Russians even said until you are 2300 or so you should stay away from Sicilians etc. and instead learn e5 (in response to e4) since it’s good for your game and your learning process, and easier to navigate.

If you’re going to play such a line that you did you should take a look at some YouTubes of it.

In the opening, I don’t like your queen placement on b8 and even before that on c7 making her vulnerable to Nb5 or Nd5. In such systems go for stuff like ...e6 and/or ...a6 before developing your queen.

I actually didn’t mind your ...B:c3, but 11...e5 is too early. You have to castle or get hit by Ba3and then suddenly you may have trouble with king safety. Remember: king safety should generally come BEFORE active operations in the center in the middle game. The fact that you both already had some development and center control and you still didn’t castle should have been a red flag for you. Castle earlier.

Am I wasting my time learning caro kann and slav at ~1500 USCF? As white I’ve come back around to The Italian. My positional understanding is definitely my weakness.

For positional skill, How to Reassess your chess, My System or Pachman’s Modern Chess strategy, should do. Silman’s Ameteurs Mind is also great.

Modern thinking is that anyone can play any opening. Old fashioned, especially Soviet thinking is e4,e5 and d4,d5 until you reach serious level. My skill level isn’t enough to say who is right or wrong to be honest. I peaked at 2120 bullet so far on lichess.

How I saw this being explained by some top grandmaster coaches is that open games (1e4,e5) tend to be more tactical, which is good for your development, and by not conceding the center you prevent early blowouts by early e5 by white which black players must know how to deal with, and that isn’t easy. Basically in Sicilian you gave up center and your kingside, so if you don’t know many techniques of how to fight back you can get squashed by not so difficult to find moves by white, while in symmetrical openings you say to white: “I’m not giving you ANY space or center advantage!”, making your life a bit easier positionally.
