I guess over there your police have to fight through kangaroos and giant lizards before they can get to a crime scene, but here in the US police arrive fully armed and ready to shoot within minutes

Well its not once a month, not to mention the US has 350m people and a high gang population. People also use a gun in self defense nearly 100k time a year to save lives. But keep up with your potato logic. Same chit that happened in paris at the theater a few years ago. Ill keep my guns and save lives rather then sit there with my thumb up my ass when some crazy starts shooting

There is no gun culture here. Concealed carry is against the law and those who are caught get in deep chit. People arent prepared for the worst here because such atrocities and just violence in general is super uncommon. Unfortunately that opens us up for such attacks.

America etc have a mobile police force, constantly patrolling etc with deadlines to meet as you know. In New Zealand basically the only ones you see are revenue gathering traffic cops. If the cops turned up 30 min after calling them (with you staying on the phone the whole time) that would be fast. Christchurch is New Zealand's second biggest city.

Letting this guy run amok for that long is a major failure and the Prime Minister is already trying to put a spin on it which is disrespectful.

It wasn't mentioned because he wasn't armed. He got the gun from the shooter. NZ has a completely different culture to the states, our police don't carry guns for instance. Please don't turn this thread into a gun laws debate as it just isn't a topic in NZ.

For an active shooter of this scope the response time was abysmal. But I'm reading a lot of NZ cops don't carry guns so in that case there is no point to respond to the scene as your more of a liability then a solution to the problem. Simple truth religious buildings are soft targets. And apparently the police force there are fairly soft in their day to day duties as well. And are under-prepared to respond to an armed threat.




If this would have happened in my city there would have been a patrol officer on scene in under five minutes. Though to be fair most of the major churches and even the mosque hire an off duty police officer for security any time they have a service/prayers. (Srs). Our local mosque decided to start hiring police security after a high profile Islamic terrorist attack. This is exactly the sort of thing they feared would happen to them.



In the grand scheme of things paying an off duty officer $35-45 an hour cash is pretty cheap to have someone on stand-by during gatherings. They end up spending a large portion of their time doing traffic control as well.

Christchurch is a small city.

By New Zealand standards, it is a mega city.

No words can explain the lack of response here. Having said this, the country is notoriously boring and safe... so maybe they don't have many police.

Unfortunately we are soft with punishing criminals on a world scale. I don't possibly imagine he is going into a motel with amenities like that norweigian *******, but he is likely to be treated better than he fukn deserves.

I imagine if it was in America, he would of got blasted by armed police instead of being run off the road like he did here and getting pulled out with no harm done.



EDIT: Change of perspective. If it was USA, he would of been shot dead seconds into him entering the Mosque by an armed civilian.

I've been to Christchurch. It's still somewhat recovering from the devastating earthquakes from 2010//2011.

It's not really a city, more like a large township, with suburbia spread out and large spaces.

If you compare it to the Columbine shooting which is probably appropriate, the swat team took ~45 minutes to enter the school after the shooting started. In Christchurch the cops arrested the culprit 36 minutes after the shooting started.
