Apart from a few farmers the majority would've never seen a real gun here so it's not a big issue to the majority. Our police don't even carry most the time (apart from now that may change)

The poverty stats and our median income are pathetic statistics. If you've ever traveled to a real first world country you will see we are not remotely up to par. We're certainly not 3rd world like the islands (what I would define as least developed) but we are 100% a less developed country.

same in Canada. aside from criminals, it's mostly farmers and people who like hunting who keep firearms. the people getting shot are usually involved in crime, but not always i have to admit. innocent bystanders do get shot occasionally as well as domestic killings. and we have had attacks by ISIS and by whities. but not enough for me to support easier access to firearms. only someone in a rural community where police response time is a joke wud need a gun for protection.

I dunno what nz you live in, but at lest 50% of people I know own firearms. It's not just a few farmers, its every single farmer and there's alot of hunters and hobbyists who live in towns. I cant see any laws changing.

High cost of living as well. Beef is approaching $4 for a low end serve, butter and cheese $6 range. Crazy to think our biggest industry is dairy farming yet we pay through the nose for these goods.
