Why do laymen all of a sudden believe multiverse theory is legit?

It is a massive deal and what a shame for any human not intrigued by this. It's literally our main goal as a species, survival, to understand the Universe, be able to travel and colonize outside of this solar system.

I think it's too abstract for some people, which is a shame. Can't imagine not being curious about this stuff.

Because people are fed a diet of sci-fi CGI, the real thing does seem underwhelming. Also people believe all sorts of things, like the multiverse, are legit settled science so reaction to an actual picture of a black hole is like 'no chit, how is this news?'

For context about the distance - apprently it's the equivalent of being in LA and taking a pic of a date on the coin in NY. If all the telescopes used to gather data were to be combined into one, the dish would be the size of Earth. Universe is mindblowing.

So the originals would technically be a bunch of ones and zeros generated from radio waves. I guess if you dont believe the science behind it, you can call the images "fake", but not believing in radio waves seems kind of strange.
So it's not a photo?

Not like one that you would take with an iPhone no lol.

Amazing how they were able to get that sort of information and turn the Earth into basically a gigantic telescope. 20 years ago, think most people would assume that it'd be impossible to ever have visual proof of something like this.

No one person could do this, but the only person I've seen so far was her. That's the only reason I wanted to show the contributions page. I had no idea that it was a team that big.

The stuff I was watching yesterday cited “over 200 people working for more than a decade” to produce the images we’re seeing now. I’m guessing that includes deploying the telescopes, because the actual data collection began in 2017

But it sounds like the algorithm is definitely one of the more singularly-astounding parts. Some of the researchers commenting mentioned how it seems like it took a long time to get here, but it’s actually crazy we’re seeing this so soon. It was only made possible through quick advancements in storage solutions and algorithms/software

They're trying to paint a narrative of an "incredibly talented superhero female scientist with advanced algorithms" made this, when in fact, she did minimal work compared to her male colleagues. This is yet another globohomo psyop to emasculate men.

Are we seriously bringing politics and gender into a thread about humanity's first real glimpse of a black hole?

ROFL only in the Western world could such a fascinating discovery have politics and gender brought into it. Maybe that black hole should move closer to our planet. Tell these idiots to STFU and get back to science. It was a HUGE team that all contributed. Do these feminists really want us to have a comparison list of scientific discoveries and inventions spanning over our whole species timeline? I bet not, morons. Always looking for that moment to pat yourselves on the back for something people have been doing for hundreds of thousands of years.

Time doesn't slow down from your perspective, its just relatively it seems that way if you could observe someone inside a blackhole from the outside of it. If you could do the opposite it would look like time was sped up. And actually you would probably burn to death from the accretion disc.

Imagine thinking that it’s US bringing politics into this while the children of the lie only show portraits of the woman who made a minimal contribution in association with the project. Fking idiot.
