Actually just two nights ago a friend of my Dad's was telling me he knows a 30 year old plumber who raked in 700k this past year. He's on call 24/7 though.

Trade jobs have the benefit of being pretty much immune to outsourcing or automization, add in that most people just don't know sht about even basic things like plumbing/heating/AC ect and it's a pretty guaranteed career.

Because snowflakes are either too scared to get dirty for a living or just have sacks of dicks for hands and can't change a fkn flat tire let alone construct anything...

Personally I joined a local union when I was 20yo and did a 5y apprenticeship WHILE attending college classes on nights and weekends... I walked away from that with a Journeyman plumbers license and a degree in Mechanical Engineering... I used my field experience and contacts within the industry to eventually go to work designing Mechanical and plumbing systems for commercial buildings. I still keep my Plumbing license current but haven't actually had to use it since 2006. There is a lot of money to be made if your hustle is 100...

Eh, yes they do make a ton of money but its not what it's cracked up to be. One of my closest training partners at BJJ is a 45 year old lineman and like the head foreman in his group. he made like 180k last year and I can confirm he has all the toys you mentioned. However, he's constantly away from his home for weeks on end, especially in the summer and winter. he's 45,y et looks and move like he's 65. he's always telling depressing chit stories about being out in the rain/heat/snow for 12+ hours a time.


and while he's making crazy $$ now, it took 22 years in the industry to get where he is now.


Personally I'd rather make 80k working 36/hours per week in an air conditioned office doing something I enjoy and still be able to throw the ball around with my kid when I'm 50.

as opposed to 180k working 12 hour days, 60+ hour weeks, and being on wheel chair status in my mid 40's

If I had known the type of money that can be made in trades I would have started my union apprenticeship at 18 instead of 28 after f*cking off at college and dead end jobs the first 10 years of my adult life. After I finish my apprenticeship next year I'll be at ~70k a year without any overtime, which is plenty good enough for me.

ye they can make good money but they work for it. Also new construction plumbing there's no ****. Just because your only experience with a plumber is when he comes to unclog your toilet doesn't mean that's all he does.

Just LMAO at the butthurt officels working in their cubicles right now... their paychecks just BARELY covering the rent on their 1 bedroom coffin apartment, the leased 3 series bmw, and the soy latte addictions they have. I hope your "college experience" was worth the debt you incurred that you will never pay off until late in your 50's.

I'm a project manager for a contractor. I think its hilarious people just assume you become a tradie and will always have to be one. You can go from foreman, to moving into the office. Plenty of guys become project managers, estimators, and even VP's of companies if you prove yourself out in the field. Even when i tell people what i do they automatically assume i am bottom of the barrel or some sort of laborer. Meanwhile, I've been living the boomer life since i turned 23 years old with a house in the burbs, 2 paid off vehicles, and plenty of extra cash to invest at the end of each week. Always amazes me people look down on skilled trades, even all the way up to executive managerial positions. Hopefully the next generation coming up is smarter than the majority of millennials.

No lie. Plumbing is a goat job. My hot water heater went out a couple of days ago and I had to get it replaced. People take hot water /plumbing for granted.

Nobody is on suicide watch except maybe the plumber. Most people don't want to do that kind of work no matter what it pays. Especially as they start getting older.

I feel like people exaggerate how much the average tradie makes. It's always "I know a guy who makes 6 figures with lots of overtime, therefore every tradie makes that much". I don't think so brahs, if it was that easy then everyone would do it

You left out the "SKILLED" part of your comment. If you are a skilled electrican, plumber, HVAC, or welder, it's very possible to make 6 figures. If you are an illegal hanging drywall, or a guy who pushes a broom all day, you aren't making chit.

True, but a hot water heater is a pretty easy DIY. Took me about 3 hours start to finish to replace mine when it went out. They usually charge a few hundred at minimum to have it done by a plumber; this was kind of my point earlier (not aiming this at you) that people just don't know how to do the basics themselves anymore.

It doesn't take a whole lot of overtime to make 100k+ if you are in the ~$35 or higher hourly range.

That was the point i was trying to make on page 1, the tradie salaries you "hear about" are literally the top 1%

I'm interested to see how the ever increasing amount of cheap labor flooding into the country effects the future of the trades, and also what the future of unions will be. I know that a lot of stuff like masonry work, roofing, etc is being hit fairly hard. A job that used to cost $10k is getting done for literally half that by a bunch of guys who jump out of the back of a pickup truck. Im sure the more skilled ones like electrician, etc will fare well

My dad is an electrical tradie in a union. He started at 20 and is now 60. I had no clue how much money he was making until he cosigned an apartment for me after college and saw his yearly income. He was almost at 200k as a tradie a year and I am sure he is well over that now.

I know it is not normal but the union thing with guaranteed raises and seniority trumps anything with layoffs is a sweet deal.

yea I know its pretty basic stuff but I don't want to deal with it and just let a pro do his thing. Most people are just too busy with their job and they don't like learning new chit, lol.
