Great another teenager getting praised for complaining about carbon emissions. Fantastic. How about they go a week without heat/A/C/electricity/phones/computers if they feel so strongly? Why are we supposed to care what students think? When they get a job, and contribute to the tax system, I will hear their opinion on matters.

ITT large corporations win.

ITT we see that large corporations have allowed you to believe that the average person is more wasteful than they are.

ITT you exercise the apathy instilled upon you by these corporations and lobbyists.

ITT you contribute to climate change by choosing to be willfully ignorant

ITT you ultimately lose because the game big corporations want you to play is getting rustled at people who speak out against them. You defend big corporations while they fuk you and the planet, all because you have thin skin and are insecure.

ITT cucked by Big Money Chad Corporation

ITT not realizing that the average human's carbon footprint is actually less than .01% of a large corporation, and that of international corporations

?Did you purposefully quote me or was that a mistake?

My gripe is this newfangled obsession in the media to applaud and politicize teenagers for the same old generic "pollution bad; every other generation is evil and ignorant except mine" script. While, of course, providing no real solutions. On top of that, blissfully and ignorantly, using the same electricity/fuel/food/phones/internet/Netflix/popular clothing that they are complaining about. I know they are young and dumb, so they ultimately have an excuse, but why are they getting so much shameless international media praise for being so hypocritical?

That's actually why I quoted you, to sort of outline this dichotomy.

The point is that it is easy to get angry at the method of a message's transmission. In this case, it is very easy to assume that the child is not personally doing anything to address global climate change outside of saying "pollution bad."

So here's the thing; you're tight that the message is being given to you by somebody you assume is doing "less" than you re: reducing their carbon footprint. Yet, she is making connections, organizing protests, then public speeches and causing the Swedish government to rethink their stance on carbon emissions.

She's a vegan (and even if that is a misguided attempt at carbon footprint reduction IMO), she is doingsomething.

The question is, if you know global climate change is a serious matter, and you know that big corporations are out here trying to downplay it... Why would you not support somebody trying to bring it to the forefront of our discussions?

Firstly, I have no idea the realities of climate change, nor does anyone else. I am sure, however, that the politicized embellishments are mere scare tactics to get people to swallow tax increases. If the liberal forecasts have any validity, the only real solution is population control. Good luck having people agree with sterilizing and limiting birth rates in third world countries.

The idea of limited pollution is always positive, though. I'm perfectly fine with developing better, more efficient, forms of energy. Why not incentivize companies to develop them with government grants? When the only "solution" being given by politicians (in Canada, at least) is to raise taxes, I suspect sinister motives. Having children spread the message does not change a thing for me. I will applaud a child, or an adult for that matter, when they come up with a realistic way to reduce emissions without a blanket tax raise. Or, without just telling people they are evil for driving a car to work. Meanwhile the very same politicians jet themselves across the globe on your tax dollar.

So the post I am trying to write keeps getting deleted by the page auto-refreshing, but here is my third attempt;

I am in agreement with you; the bureaucracy is notorious for increasing taxes instead of providing valid solutions. But the scientific community has presented several solutions, a few of them have passed, but we are moving too slowly.

You are not evil for driving a car.Its this misguided thought process that allows people to get rustled by anybody speaking out. It's the same thought that caused you to say "Well, what's this little chit doing to do her part?"

It's large corporations that make the biggest impact on the planet. The corporations need to be addressed first--they are the pink elephant in the room... NOT your plastic straws.

In fact, telling you that the fact that you're driving a car is evil, is actually another example of corporations winning... They're getting consumers to shift the blame off them (and play the consumer against the consumer), and escape scott free. The consumer now feels like they are "doing their part" by purchasing an "eco-friendly" item but still does a very small amount to reduce thelarge scale emissions released by corporations... In a way, it helps reinforce the status quo.

I also agree though--we must also get other countries on board for change to actually be positive.

It's not you, the individual, that is destroying the environment... This is not something that a couple of prius cars and metal straws can fix.

I dont really have that much of a problem with it to be honest, im more annoyed she is preaching how we in the west arent doing anything when actually in fact we are. In the UK in particular we have made a load of changes our emisisons are at the lowest since 1890https://www.ft.com/content/47563b2a-...0-08f715791301Its not as if the US isnt dropping their emissions either albeit doesnt help the Donald thinks its all a myth. However while we make all these changes China is still allowed to keep building coal power stations till like 2030...Where the fuk is the logic in that? Make our changes irrelevant if we invest all our money into wind and solar but china just cucks us.

Think about it. We used to have sustainable methods for reusing materials. Coke bottles used to be returned to the vendor to be washed and reused. Same with the milkman. What happened? Big greedy corporations happened. Disposable packaging is a way for them to create more output which equals greater revenues and profit. More trash is the result and like it was mentioned before big business put out propaganda to shift the blame to consumers.

It's pretty clear with the US pullout of the Paris agreement by Trump that climate control is being shunned for the sake of economic output aka greed.
Your schtick sucks and it screams insecurity.

By the way, let's just debunk this appeal to authority argument once and for all. Using your logic, we should also defer to any other opinions held by 97% of professors (or "scientists") in any field. Does anyone honestly believe that the assertions put forth by 97% of professors in gender studies or race studies should be accepted as fact?

The desperation with which those on the left seek to impose economic sanctions on free, democratic countries, while exempting everyone else, is astonishing to me and tells you everything you need to know about this "crisis". This is nothing more than the endgame power grab to give lefties total control over our lives, our economies, and our freedoms.

Have you read the study?

Sample size is small, but the majority still states that they believe between 60-100% of global climate change is man made. It may not be 97%, but it is still the majority.

Your own article literally debunks your false claim.
