Two years isn't long to wrap up one of, if not THE most popular and loved shows of all time when you factor in the millions of people you have to try and keep happy as well as the time its going to take to shoot episodes you don't even know the content of yet.

Writing is the longest part of the process, some screenplays take writers upwards of a decade to complete.

Two years is a CHITLOAD of time in tv terms. Even if we subtract production time. Especially for an 8 episode series. Know how I know its a chitload of time? I actually write for a fuking tv show.

The logic holes, plotholes, lazy shortcuts, etc. are what i'd expect from episodes with a two week turnaround where there are so many network and producer notes and such a tight deadline that things just get looked over for the sake of satisfying the schedule.

By the way, this isnt a feature film screenplay by some guy dealing with other projects, writers block, procrastination, apathy, and the luxury of money to blow, which are the only reason screenplays would take anywhere near a decade to write. Its a tv script, which is written by teams of people and then re-written by teams of people multiple times over a matter of weeks. When the production schedule is extended -- like it was for GOT -- you get a lot longer to iron out the kinks and smooth over any internal logic and consistency issues. And they still chit the bed.

The sheer number of eyes that have been on these episodes means there's no excuse for some of the crap we've seen so far this season. Its purely incompetence on the part of the showrunners and likely too much creative freedom from the execs and producers who are prob just assuming they know what they're doing since the earlier material from GRRM's books was almost flawless.

These idiots just said Dany forgot about the Iron Fleet on the behind the scenes. And by extension, her entire council. Like, what? Is everyone, including us, just supposed to be mentally retarded and watch the show with a helmet on? This is the level of ingenuity we're dealing with at the writers table. After two years, they've spent longer creating a worse product.

At this rate, we should have been happy to wait however long it took GRRM to complete the series.

- Jon's speech was really good, it was something his character would have said, no fancy chit, because he is not exactly silver-tongued
- Bronn was exactly what a cutthroat should be, and him reminding them that this is how some of the big families came to power was a good reality-check for Jaime/Tyrion
- They gave Ghost a better send-off than just "well, died in the dark", poor beaten down puppy :[
- Jon is framed pretty well as the tragic hero (stuck between a rock and a hard place), as he must be true to himself, but also wants to do right by Daenerys, there is basically no good option left, Bran giving him the option of saying or not made it a good fork in the story and decisive moment

Criticism
- Brienne/Jaime was chit, it was a silly payoff on Brienne crushing on him, Jaime respected her, a pity-fuk is really a terrible choice, especially if he turns around 8 hours later and rides of to Cersei, who just sent Bronn after her
- Daenerys really didn't think about circling the Eurons fleet in safe distance and burn them up from behind? Their ballistas were front-mounted, what were they gonna do? Shoot through their own masts? Also I doubt they have full clearance, so ... just come from straight up?

Really liked that episode. I think people are going to overly critical now of everything. Even if it is a legit 10/10 episode people will pick holes to suit their narrative.

Only annoyance was Dany not flanking the ships and burning them to smithereens. Wasn't expecting Bronn to be so callous but I'm glad he was.

Decent episode.. Still leaves so much to be answered, especially lore wise. It's ****ty that this is the final season because now they are rushing everything. They should have extended it for another season at least and not rushed a heap of the character plots and stuff. Maybe they will do spin offs after, but post-GOT story line will be bad unless they explain a lot of stuff in the next two episodes. They could have a mini series of like Arya's time training as an assassin etc..

I think the fact it's the last season and the writing has been going downhill since season 5 is just gonna create a lot of hate for the writing. Was the GOAT show season 1-4, then fell off a bit. Deserves to finish strongly.

I rewatched the whole series to prepare for this season. The show was actually better the second time i watched it because there were so many things that made more sense.

Having said that... they've really dropped the ball on this final season so far. I'm left scratching my head how they can have 20 minutes of drunken comedy and yet completely skip the John Snow reveal to his sisters. Dragon death scene was damn cringey and rushed. The Tyrion and his sister bullchit was just poorly scripted. The Jaimie love scene was just painful to watch. It legit looked like he fukin headbutted her.... seriously... she looked like she winced. Blows my mind that some editor/director thought that was a wrap on that scene.

So far after every episode this season I've been left hoping that next weeks episode is somehow going to bring everything together. It's clear to me now that they had 2 years to figure out how to end this show and they've completely fkd it up. As someone already said, you can find hundreds of great ideas about how the show could end on this forum and others and they've completely gone full retard with it.

In other movies/shows where a scene like that happens they said a messenger from each army to meet. In this show they looked to all be in archer range and definitely in balista range. Was literally too stupid. It would be like in braveheart/gladiator/whatever if they sent out Caeser and his small party to negotiate in range of the enemies archers/artillery.

The Bronn scene seemed completely rushed, forced, and overdone. For the entire show they've made the two Lannister brothers into his biggest sidekicks and then all of a sudden he goes full psycho in this one scene? GRRM know how to do a good character twist ... but this one just seemed completely inconsistent with what has already been laid out in the show.

Seems like a lot of movies/shows are doing this. Introducing really interesting characters or concepts and giving us no back story or origin because they cant think of one. Same as that bird box movie. I hate it.

This show has become complete garbage.

What pissed me off the most was how jon handled ghost. First his direwolf get sent in battle with the dothraki to all get wiped out.
Then he miraculously survives, although with battle wounds all over.
Did jon get happy that ghost is still alive, like he did when he saw ghost again after he went missing north of the wall? No.
Did jon at least pet its head and tell him he's a good boy before sending him off? No.

Not much of a cleanup after being built up as the wintery apocalyptic abyss of snow and ice that would have had Gilly smothering Sam (both of them, if we're being honest).

A few bumps and scratches isn't too bad for being consistently mobbed by the undead, and Pod didn't even get a bruise! Nevertheless, it would be wrong to discount the losses , the "ghosts" the living left behind, and the scars they will forever carry.

Sam literally made his bed in the form of a wight Sleep Number after Edd took a blade saving his giant baby arse.

Dany had to send Jorah to the seventh circle of friendzones and lost most of her army.

Jon is trying to forget how he ordered all of those blue white walker awareness bracelets.

Arya lost her revenge streak after having to deal with the Night Duke, or whoever-the-fukk.

Theon was a good man.

The Hound keeps receiving messages telling him to rally the bannermen of House Bowl and he just wants off their mailing list.

Tormund got cockblocked and his Twitter followers were heartbroken.

Gendry was blinded during the battle and despite being made a lord, he will never see again.

Bronn forgot how he had two loyal friends who he risked his life for and promised him riches.

Bran is like us, living in the past rewatching Game of Thrones, stopping abruptly at season 7, then restarting.

In all fairness, the show probably broke the fourth wall so hard that it managed get itself drunk, which explains why everyone else got drunk; D&D are probably tucked away in several of the shots there, too.

Even Sansa risked breaking the fourth wall giving Tyrion thatlookafter Dany said he wasn't the only clever one. He really should have asked Qyburn if he had invented the Westerosi equivalent to an MRI or something because he has clearly taken several too many blows to the head at this point.

Stepping outside of the show itself for a moment, Peter Dinklage simply looks exasperated at this point, like "'Because I have faith in our queen', why?Whydo I have faith in this woman? Give me something,anything, here!"

Meanwhile, Varys is giving Tyrion his own look for not relinquishing the idiot ball.

"This is not the usual 'moon cycle' crazy, Tyrion."

The real insanity is that the show has spent so much time telling us that Dany is a good leader and inspires people like Tyrion, and now they're telling us she's crazy in the last few episodes. A growing number of unsightly, interconnected problems with the recent seasons are
(1) The reliance upon telling the audience exactly how we should feel or what we should believe rather than building up these facets through the episodes themselves.

(2) Cutting away from events and conversations, sometimes critical, other times merely valuable character building moments that would help us naturally connect with the story as opposed to having to do the show's job ourselves by forming head-canon to explain their lack of explanations.

(3) Forcing characters to behave based upon where they want the plot to go rather than directing the plot based on choices/actions the characters would realistically make by their own accord, not the writer's.

All of these contribute to what can only be described as schizophrenic characterization that bounces from one mood to the next in order to suit the narrative that the writers and directors are going for as opposed to organic, cohesive storytelling.

Jon's arc was certainly one of the largest casualties of the last episode, now being forced into a behind-the-scenes debate for him taking the crown that he has never wanted, and Dany's arc has also been spun from what could have truly "subverted expectations" into a predictable will she/won't she Mad Queen run.

Daenerys sacrificed everything she had worked towards in pursuit of what she believes is her birthright in order to work with Jon to save all of the living regardless of House or banner, but with the war against the dead unceremoniously cut off, they have her in a desperate race for a crown that doesn't even really matter.


Courtesy of Tyrion's many offscreen concussions that led him to completely forget who his bitch of a sister is the rightfully maligned wight hunt was the first step to Dany losing one of her dragons to the Night King, expediting the Wall's destruction while handing the Night King the deadliest possible weapon against the living.

Even ignoring that clusterfukc, there is the new matter of her insisting to continue her manifest destiny campaign against Cersei in a time where, frankly, it's now the most stable recent time for the rest of Westeros:

The dreaded winter has come to an abrupt end, the undead are still snarks and grumpkins as far as anyone south of Winterfell knows.

The crown's rival kingdom's have been sequentially written off the show, the majority of the foreign hordes brought by Daenerys Targaryen, specifically the most rapey and pillaging-prone of the lot, have been mysteriously killed off en masse.

And Cersei has managed the seemingly impossible task of finally paying off all of the crown's debts!

Hell, even the usual victims of a Clegane raid have been seeing a dramatic drop in rapes and murders every since the Mountain became a stay-at-home knight.

So in this state, Westeros is actually doing pretty well under the dreaded "wheel," as the common people[i]clearly[/i]could not give a rusty fukk about Cersei blowing up the Sept; everything is finally quite peachy, whereas Daenerys would just be stirring up unnecessary rabble at this point for them now that the continent is in a state of calm.

The end of Dany's url=https://youtu.be/7voZB6Ki7m8?t=142]vision from the House of the Undying where she walks out the gates of The Wall[/url] turns out to have been leading to nothing more than an hour and a half footnote of a Pyrrhic victory, and her involvement in Westeros has left her not only with a weakened force that only continues to shrink, but she only[i]now[/i]realizes that[i]she[/i]is the fish out of water. Nonetheless, she insists on trying to breath on land because the writers have dictated that she[i]must[/i]now become a petty, envious, and mistrusting conqueror bordering on "madness" because they wrote out the only meaningful conflict that could have also posed as an interesting threat to all vested parties who were already at one another's throats.


On one hand, I vastly preferred how character interactions and[i]any[/i]dialogue took precedent over mindless action that bore no consequences other than shuttering plots that would have actually been worth pursuing. Yet on the other, it was another sad reminder of how[i]this[/i]is what was sacrificed.

Hoping for the writing to make a full return this late in the show is a lost cause so long as we would have two barely-literate berks in charge, but this episode was the real bittersweet reminder of how rather than continuing with ten fully fleshed out episodes that allow the story to develop far more naturally while keeping us on the suspenseful hook a whole four weeks (or three in the case of season 7) longer, they decided to dump money on a Hollywood production ofTits& Dragons in far fewer episodes so they could push it out the door to make room for their next project.

whoever decided it was a good idea to shorten the final seasons needs to be blacklisted from hollywood outright. this show needed 10 seasons, not 6+2 dinked seasons.

The Night King marching south should have been an entire season and then the Cersei confrontation+the spring should have been another season. not 3 episodes total.

If it was up to me the ending would be

Jon and Danny win the and Jon becomes King

Danny gets told by Bran she is pregnant and she tells Jon

Both fight cerci and win. Cerci is killed, Euron is killed, Jamie is killed

Qyburn had built a trap when Danny goes to sit on the iron throne, an arrow comes out of no where goes through her heart and stomach

Jon loses Danny and his child but everyone crowns him King of the Seven Kingdom

Out of no where a storm comes and it the night king new one the one he made in season 2-3 caster son kills Jon and Everyone.

Westores no longer exist and becomes like Ashai

Last night was one of the worst episodes if not the very worst.
