They should have just let Bryan Cogman run the show. That guy actually really gives a chit.

20 plus pages about the last episode and no one is talking about Brian's line: "I mostly live in the past now"?

Anyone else think that this seemingly throw-away line will/should come back into play with his time travel abilities and hopefully return the True King: the Night King?

I’m still on the train that Bran is responsible for everything and that line could mean a lot. He could be responsible for the NK, for Aerys going mad, etc.

Reading some other stuff online, it looks like Bryan Cogman also wanted to end the show at a certain point. They had an idea of the total hours they wanted the show to span, and they're right in that range

They could have continued to milk the new story for another decade if they wanted. Maybe it was a mistake to not stretch out these last two seasons, but who knows what other reasoning there may have been. Maybe the actors wanted to move on, maybe this, maybe that, who knows

Truth be told, waiting for GRRM to finish the damn books is probably the only way they could have put together something that would truly satisfy the die-hards. I doubt stretching out the material concocted by D&D and the other writers would ever have sufficed, and maybe it would have damaged the show even more than we've seen from these last few compressed seasons

Agreed.

The shock value is what I enjoyed. Not this fairy tale bull****. The Night King now looks like a joke. I mean compare the battle of Winterfell to Hardhome? They got totally ****ed up at Hardhome and that’s when we realized that Westeros is ****ed. Then it turned into a fairy tale.

Nah, people need to understand they are wrapping it up, no point in crafting more surprises or opening new venues at this stage. It all culminates around Kings Landing and the Iron Throne.

1. Hound/Arya: want to kill the Mountain, Arya also wants Cersei (and the Hound for dessert to finish her list)
2. Tyrion/Varys: want to either steer Dany in the right direction (mostly Tyrion, and failing) or killing her before she goes Mad Queen on Drogon
3. Jon/Dany: want to defeat Cersei - probably with very different ideas on how at this point
4. Cersei/Euron: want to defeat Dany

In all honesty: even if Cersei and Euron would win, they couldn't conquer the seven kingdoms, no fukin way. Their ranks have been thinned, Euron is useless on land, Cersei doesn't have that large of a Lannister army (who were mostly annihilated by Dany on their way back from ending the Tyrells).

Let's say:
- 4,000 Unsullied
- 4,000 Northeners
- 5-10,000 Dothraki (out of originally 100k+)
- Drogon

vs

- 3-4,000 Lannister
- 20,000 Golden Company
- Iron Fleet (only a threat on the sea or along the shore, really)

Edit:

lol, I just realized Jon treated Ghost the same way as Captain America treated Buckey ...

Won't happen.

We better forget every idea that includes overarching plot and lore elements and implies hidden meaning behind actions etc.

I’ve said for weeks now that the only way this can be rescued is through Bran. He has to have some crazy upending twist up his sleeve about being the TER. If the show now is dealing with cersei and the iron throne then just fukin lol

Not holding my breath on it though, D&D are dumbasses

I’ll make a bet with anyone that over the long run Season 8 is the worst ranked out of all of them. Maybe 7, but those last two will be regarded as trainwreck seasons

Not sure why either of them would be in a rush to get away from GoT. Both are mediocre actors at best.... and both did movies that failed terribly (Pompeii and Terminator). This show will probably be the highlight of their careers.

I mean she did get a big role in "Solo"

I'd assume in Hollywood you gotta strike while the iron is hot on the big screen, and are able to demand some serious $$.. Same with D&D, probably saw a bunch of opportunities come up with serious $$ (Star Wars) that they wanted to jump on.

Nah I don't think anything will be as shocking as that.

They for sure will try and throw some twists tho. Whether they land or not..... I'm not sure.

If im HBO president and i get word that D&D think they truly run this chit and want to end the show early, im firing them and giving the show to someone else.

GRRM has said the show should have been around 11-12 seasons. Not 6 + a pair of gimped seasons. Let D&D do their precious “70 hours” and then let them fuk off. It wouldnt have been hard to replace them. Now they are ruining it so bad that they risk losing viewership for the spinoffs. They are totally Rian Johnson’ing this

On spread. Yeah they're acting skill is nowhere close to the Dinklage, Allen, Headey, Caster-Waldau, Dance level. Even Turner has grown more through the series. Human nature wants the ego boost.

Will try Counterpoint btw.

I can't blame them for this. To Destor's point prior, the time and effort to make this go forward is beyond what we as the audience understand. HBO's Rome and Deadwood suffered the same budget issues and were canceled early bc of it.
Rome and Deadwood were awesome. Can't wait for the Deadwood movie this month.

Good luck finding actors who want to dedicate their careers for one role. Even with 8 season their careers are spoiled. Kit Harington will always be Jon Snow no matter role he plays in the future. Same for the actors who play Dany, Sansa, Arya, etc. That's the flip side of being the stars of the most popular show for the last decade.

No, I never defended D&D, I defended the show and understood that with budget and time constraints, most of the chit was inevitable. However, the fact that this crap is self-inflicted ... yeah, I already thought they both are mediocre, but that was really retarded.

Shows the ego's, if they wanted out, why not hand it over to another show runner, lets say after wrapping up The Battle of the Bastards.
Do this. D&D weren't adding to the story anyway. They could have just grabbed a couple fan theory nerds off reddit for the story and then ran with the directors they have been using.

There are tunnels in and out of King's Landing. The smartest way to influence the outcome would be Hound/Arya sneak in, Hound gets his Clegane Bowl, Arya sabotages at least some ballistas with the face of a Lannister guard - maybe Jaime sneaks in and chokes the chit out of Cersei.

Lets be real, all characters will die upclose and personal - only except may be Euron who would find a good end if he becomes a crispy bacon thanks to Drogon for killin Rhegar.

Think the cast of Friends is sad that that was the high point of their careers? I doubt it. What about Seinfeld? Think they’re pretty happy too. When you’re on a hit show you’re usually making BANK and have some solid job security. Stupid to just throw that away. Besides... look at Harrison Ford.... played 2 iconic characters in Han Solo and Indiana Jones and still did other roles without any trouble. Ditto for Sean Connery post James Bond. Ditto for everyone who was in LOTR.

Besides... look at Harrison Ford.... played 2 iconic characters in Han Solo and Indiana Jones and still did other roles without any trouble. Ditto for Sean Connery post James Bond. Ditto for everyone who was in LOTR.
But what about Elijah Wood (Frodo) or Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter)? Anyway, my point was that it's hard to find actors who commit for 10+ years on a single TV show.
