- Throwing a good chunk of character development out the window
- Magical teleportation and overpowered Euron Greyjoy
- Being impossibly accurate to kill a dragon then impossible inaccurate the next second
- Dani not seeing the impending assault via air
- Not a single mention of the Night King, after all that build-up and anticipation it's done with and that's it?
And the hundred other reasons. It's a 6.6 on IMDB and rightfully so.

Apparently D&D fell out with GRRM because of Lady stoneheart (Catelyn Stark resurrected) because they didn't want that character in the show whereas Georgie boy was very insistent on having her storyline play out, those two wouldn't have it becaus they are some petty fuks and thought they could do better, wouldn't put it past GRRM to already have the two books completed and is just waiting out to shows eventual trainwreck ending to release them.

It's - considering how much they otherwise suck - very consistent writing by D&D when it comes to Jon.
The discussion between Tyrion and Varys is key, because Varys reminds the audience that Westeros is a patriarchical society -the male heir gets to sit on the throne. Jon - even though one generation removed from the Mad King (Aerys II), has a stronger right to the throne than Daenerys, who is his daughter. Tyrion is trying to save Dany, summoning very progressive ideas like "who gives a fuk about the cock between his legs", while Varys wants her removed and summons the more traditionalist view that a man will have an easier time ruling given the Westerosi culture.
Varys says Jon won't marry Daenerys because they are related and that while Daenerys (as a Targaryen, where that is common) has no problem with it, Jon would not feel the same because Northeners usually do not marry incestually. And ON TOP OF THAT, Daenerys is too strong for him, in terms of her will. Daenerys is certainly far more driven and ambitious than Jon. He does wants right and in front of him (lead men, save lives, fix the wrongs he sees), Daenerys always had big goals (breaker of chains, conquering Westeros, sitting on the Iron Throne). And since you bring up Ygritte ... didn't she kept telling him that he knows nothing ... and even shot him with an arrow? Jon is not a dominant male character.
