I'll tell you how bad the writers are. Even when they do something good, they are still able to ruin it with bad decisions. We all knew that Jaime and Brienne has had a relationship that was full of sexual tension, etc. But it never had to be consummated with sex. Their relationship could have been just perceived as one where they both really loved each other, with it being consummated when Jaime knighted Brienne.

Brienne being knighted could have been her symbol of losing her virginity. I mean, Jaime used a sword to do it. That would have been a perfect way to end their relationship. But no, the writers had to add the romcom aspect of it to please the wine-drinking cat ladies who watch the show.

Brienne dying would have been more beneficial for his story arc.

Yeah I know man, honestly gave up on the writing after Ep3. Ep4 seemed not so bad to me, but that was likely a result of massively lowered expectations

And now I'm committed to not spending a lot of time thinking about the issues, just along for the ride. Bring on Episode 5

I'm the same way. I no longer have any emotional investment in the show. I'm just having fun watching it, even if it's to make fun of it.

Anyways I'm pretty interested to see how things go down tomorrow night, we'll see if there's any shred of redemption for D&D's story arc
Yeah I really liked that scene actually. Shows Jaime is still conflicted as a motherfuker even if he's mostly turned good.

Haven't read any leaks so anxiously awaiting this ep.

You missed the entire point of the books and the entire story. Its not a story about the Night King, GRRM literally said himself "the only thing worth writing about is the human hearts conflict with itself, everything else is just an aside". The whole point of the Night King was to bring about conflict, he was the catalyst for most of the events in Westeros to take place and drive the conflict that the main characters have within themselves and each other. Its a story about right and wrong and the the cost of doing each. Its a story about greed and lust for power, even in the face of total annihilation. Its a human story about human things.

You've been watching this for ten years? When all the paragons of virtue met pointless deaths at the hands of wicked people, you didn't take a second to think about that and what GRRM was trying to say with that? Its not 'Night King 2: Electric boogaloo', its a story about humans and conflict, internal and external.

Imagine cheering like that at a scene in a movie or tv show in general.

But that's what D&D are writing for.

Dude, youre talking to sub 90 iq people from middle of nowhere America who probably never had any college education or much social interaction experience in general.

They have the emotional development and maturity of a child. They dont get anything more complex or nuanced than a comic book plot or zombie plot.

What a masterpiece of a show.
Daenerys outplaying the slavers of Astapor's sorry asses and turned the Unsullied upon them was my personal peak for her, but after that I saw the signs that she was leaning towards attributes that conflicted with her stated aims rooted in good intentions, favoring that of a conqueror of Westeros rather than the Myssa liberator she saw herself being received as by the people.

However, that's a still a far cry from a "MAD" queen, and it warrants a few additional caveats:
(1) Daenerys, like many, manyother characters in the latter seasons, was a victim of inconsistent characterization in order to facilitate the plot.

(2) Dany was perhaps the most negatively affected by the writers' inability to handle a "strong" female character beyond modern Hollywood's sole concept of "BADASS," as opposed to acomplexindividual.

(3) From my understanding, book Daenerys is a point of view character, so an absence of (a) good directing and (b) attempting to translate her inner thoughts insomemanner that we as the audience can better use to fully understand her motivations, objectives, and lines of reasoning.Up until this season, Daenerys was given not much to work with beyond a lot of blank "try to look 'badass'" stares that in hindsight could be likened more to how characters like Varys and Tyrion lost their witty dialogue.

Combine the above, and they can lead to inconsistent character motivations that I could personally write off as simply poor directing and writing that depending on one's perspective could paint her arc in an unsympathetic light.

Then we have season 8, in which Emilia Clarke is acting thef*ckout of her scenes now that her character is placed in positions where she has to actually interact with other characters beyond being passively given bad advice in the show, or bad writing/directing in the real world.

When Varys and Tyrion are not giving miserable advice, both constantly gush on about how she's this new beacon of hope, the very reason Tyrion stopped being a whore-mongering drunk, so on and so forth, without ever explainingwhythey believe she would be a good leader. They merely tell the audience, "Dany is good," and when their counsel fails like clockwork, Dany has to come in and pick up the pieces with fire and blood, whichsomehowshocks these two morons.

What did you think "fire and blood"meant, you feckless walrus?

Season 8 makes Dany more sympathetic than almost anything prior: she put off a direct attack on the Red Keep, listened to all of these fukkwits, which led to her losing a dragon, the Wall coming down, her losing half of her army defending against them, having her fleets routinely destroyed by Captain Fingerbum, losing a second dragon, losing her best and only true friend, and to top it all off, now those same fukkwits are turning on her.

Daenerys is only "mad" in the sense that she is justifiably pissed the hell off after Cersei dropped the final straw on the camel's already fractured back.

As for Jon, I understand why he told Arya and Sansa; Jon's the honorable dumb-dumb who's Ned's son by everything other than blood, and he felt that his family needed to know who he truly is as the son of Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. Ned took that secret to his grave protecting Jon, and he felt that he owed his siblings the truth in spite of his so called "family's" Dany intervention in the Godswood.

Arya has been her unusual, bipolar self, standing atop her family values soap box, only to immediately saunter off abandoning everyone, and Sansa didn't give her sacredoathto keep Jon's secret to herself for 24 hours, even. If it came down to him being forced to choose between those two or Dany, he should tell Arya and Sansa to go pound dirt. Jon has repeatedly pushed aside leadership, especially the throne, and he would be willing to lead alongside Daenerys, so what is Sansa's end game here? Try to leap frog Jon or puppeteer her way into power? Between Cersei and Littlefinger's prodigy and Frey Pie, season 8 only makes Dany look the most empathetic and the most deserving of a Red Keep Roast.

This would be a bit unlikely given cerseis, but interesting nonetheless
110%.
I threw together my own idea of tweaking the battle in the last thread and I also believe that they should have lost Winterfell, and furthermore, Bran should have been "captured" because he's bloody useless as anything but a McGuffin at this point.

As I was thinking about it, at least logically facilitating the retreat part through the narrative would be easy:

- While the Night King is approaching Bran alongside his lieutenants, wights are pouring in from all sides, swarming Winterfell like how ants throw themselves on top of food or a dead insect, blocking Bran from our (and the other characters') view, leaving his fate as a mystery. The wights' behavior shifts towards acting as an un-living wall the closer they get to the Night King, allowing the other characters to make their retreat.

- Those in the crypts use the secret passages talked about for kings of old to make their escape.

- The Dothraki are held in reserve to cover a retreat and flank any lingering wights.
I will stand firm, I refuse to kneel - The fury in me is divine
My dark grave awaits, my fate is revealed - But I'm not afraid to die

If you have any problems or need advice, feel free to ask

Death is impossible for us to fathom: it is so immense, so frightening, that we will do almost anything to avoid thinking about it. Society is organized to make death invisible, to keep it several steps removed. That distance may seem necessary for our comfort, but it comes with a terrible price: the illusion of limitless time, and a consequent lack of seriousness about daily life. We are running away from the one reality that faces us all.

worst rated season, and last weeks episode is the lowest rated ever on IMBD

If you like it, that's fine. But don't expect to be taken seriously by actual fans. I'm sure the people you talk to go to GoT watch parties and spend half the episode in the kitchen with the drinks and snacks.

In a world where dragons, zombies, sorcerers, time traveling, etc, exists, for some reason, I find those scorpions to be the most outrageous and unbelievable things. I'd have an easier time believing in Qyburn learning how to fly than creating such a powerful weapon that pretty much makes dragons and any naval fleet useless.

- The Dothraki are held in reserve to cover a retreat and flank any lingering wights.

theres passages in the book that describe the scorpion bolts bouncing off the hide of dragons.

D&D went completely against the books with this one
