Small minds don’t like change but that’s not a valid criticism to say the pace is relatively faster.

The pace was faster for a valid reason weather people accept the change or not, it was a smart choice to keep it going and avoid falling flat kinda like how the first two episodes were forgettable and hollow it coulda been a whole 10 episode season of that so they said no to that to avoid a pitfall, not because they announced Star Wars
It's not exaggerating at all. Gendry solo running to the wall, people teleporting to Dorne/Essos/North/South. Back to back to back to back reunions.

They could have saved massive amounts of time by cutting out Operation Catch-a-Wight. I mentioned how they could've just had NK get the Horn of Winter and then kill Viserion in Winterfell since he was going to be there anyways.

And if something changes for the worst, and fans don't like it, that means they're small minded? Lol come on now.

No it’s just not as noticeable when I agree with a consensus

You usually notice me pop up when I have a reason to prove something I think is wrong or right that goes against the normie consensus and that’s when the essays start to go off

I only bother writing about things that are hard to explain.

If I agree with everyone I just don’t say anything just to type redundant things

It’s when I disagree with something that you see me pop out the woodwork

Dany flying in literally one day from approx the south of Westeros to beyond the wall to save Jon.

Things like that dimished the impression of the scale of Westeros.

Jamie and Brienne's journey took ages, and helped us have an impression that Westeros was of a large scale. Season 7 and 8 destroyed that sense of scale.

Tyrions speech about Dany killing evil people wherever she goes and everyone just being fine with it....

So what? Isnt that what the worlds governments do? Especially the US?

He said that like it was supposed to color her character into this sinister being faking at being good. Sounds like more after-the-fact lazy and ill conceived plot rationalization from D&D to me.
rewatching season 1 and its just really cool to notice new things now that its over.

Grandmaester Pycel to Cersei in regards to Sansa: “She is the daughter of a traitor, who knows in 10 years what treason she might hatch”

Fast forward to Season 8 and exactly 10 years later Sansa is plotting behind Danys back in hopes of installing the true rightful heir to the throne. The very thing her father did.

Also,

Jorah had just saved Dany from being poisoned and Drogo swears to head west and give their son the iron chair and that he will rape their woman and enslave all their children while doing so.

Dany has no negative reaction to this and goes right along with it because all she really cared about was sitting on the throne. Fast forward to season 8 she rides west on Drogon ( Drogo) and acquires the throne every bit as brutally as Drogo promised.

Just lol@ at ever thinking Dany was a sweet little princess who cared about anything other than conquoring.
Well, Sansaisthe absolute bloody worst. She didn't even suffer any repercussions for being an oathbreaker, which was especially egregious having taken said oath under the Weirwood tree.

As for Dany, I noticed the same thing during my rewatch before the final season, and once you've taken in a concentrated dosage of Daenerys, her entire arc is very much wavering towards a conqueror - albeit one who began with pure intentions.

We do see subtle hints of her character's shift, such as with your example of Khal Drogo's impassioned speech, Dany evokes this speech first when she recruits the Dothraki as all of her bloodriders, and again once she has destroyed King's Landing. Young, naive Dany might have condoned the gritty details of Khal Drogo's message, but it's difficult to ignore how she was fine channeling the same conceit the first time given her precedent contempt for rape and violence towards innocents.

It's even stranger that she never addresses a need for the Dothraki to change their ways, yet she made Yara swear that an independent Iron Islands would cease their ways of raping and reaving.

Now,devil'sDany's advocate of sorts:

Despite the signs along the way to Dany's turn, the execution was not only poorly handled and terribly rushed, butclearlyexacerbated by the showrunners lack of communication down the line that led to a confused, mixed message until the final hour. Well before Emilia Clarke even knew of her character's fate, she appears to be another victim of the overly secretive direction given to actors for the fear of spoilers that left them grasping at what their true end role was meant to resemble:
"Regardless of the final season’s narrative’s origin, the Thrones writers have planned Dany’s fate for years and have foreshadowed the dark turn in the storyline. In previous seasons, producers would sometimes ask Clarke to play a scene a bit different than what she expected for a seemingly heroic character. “There’s a number of times I’ve been like: ‘Why are you giving me that note?’” Clarke says. “So yes, this has made me look back at all the notes I’ve ever had.”

This is not far fetched when we have main stars like Nicolaj Coster Waldeau now speaking about thisseason's secrecy:
"We got the script - well first you had to download an app because of course, you can't get paper [scripts] anymore - and the scripts came and when you finish them they would magically disappear.
...I dislike it, I like to make notes and stuff and also the weird thing now I have all the other scripts from all the other seasons I don't have the script from season 8 it's a little sad."

While a degree of secrecy is perfectly understandable, when a character'sentire arcrequires depicting a descent into madness rather than a cartoonish freefall, it's self-destructive to the final product to merely give highly vague tugs and nods as to how to perform a role. This would also explain why the incongruous parts of characters' arcs these latter seasons could almost be mistaken for the actors receiving their direction via charades.

It's interesting to imagine how Emilia Clarke might have portrayed Dany throughout the series had she known that her character would require far more nuance to convincingly depict a turn for the worse.

The showrunners' earliest citation of Mad Dany foreshadowing was her apathy towards Drogo murdering her brother, which in the show's depiction I agree.Butthey also chose to ignore the other much more humanizing side of the coin in respect to that incident, as the books also apparently detail Dany immediately exchanging stoicism for agonizing guilt and sadness, blaming herself for her brother's death. And when we analyze the circumstances of that scenario, it really does add up: Viserys crossed a line, writing a check is ass couldn't cash when Dany was finally learning to be empowered in front of Drogo, but once she was not in his presence and the gravity what transpired weighed upon her, Dany was overcome with guilt. Incidentally, it appears that Viserys' death does truly haunt Dany, visions and all, which would have actually been an interesting angle to her later turn.

Throughout most of the series, they clearly wanted their cake and to eat it, too with Dany even throughout the latter seasons when her shades of grey should have been readily apparent for all to see and theorize over. Up until she is literally committing genocide, Dany's "moments" are exclusively shown as triumphant with empowering music swelling behind her.

If we were to pinpoint only one (ha!) glaring omission to Dany's transition from benevolent conqueror, it would be a shift towards disregarding innocent lives. For the mounting evidence that could portend to a far less kindly conqueror through Dany, such as her reliance upon fear to force captured Lannister soldiers to the knees and refusal to take prisoners, there is a distinct absence of her taking out her anger and aggression on the everyday people. Granted, they certainly made sure to insert a sudden misdirection of blame towards the commoners for not overtaking Cersei themselves, but that was both out of the blue in the scheme of her overall character, as well as plain nonsensical when she seems to also agree with Tyrion's stance that they are effectively held hostage.

I can even somewhat buy into the general concept of Dany feeling the need to flex her dragon muscles a bit to instill fear by destroying the Red Keep - a target that she seemingly heads towards at first before veering off to torch civilians - but she has already witnessed the fear that her dragons cause back during the first episode of the season when Northerners, who wereon her side, scattered at the sight of them. But they really turned the "evil" crank to 11 at, well, the eleventh hour, which was far too late for what was already a wanting build up to a darker Dany, let alone the breakneck pace they went with this season.

Anyway, I'm not disagreeing that the foreshadowing was there and unlike the Night King/Arya fan-pandering, I do think that Dany taking a darker turn is a viable enough direction for GRRM to explore, but D&D neglected character building that would require more episodes than Davos has fingers.
brah if you gotta rationalize their business decision this much...The speed of the plot went berserk in Season 7. From what I heard, GRRM is very anti-military interventionism (I agree with him), and part of Game Of Thrones is to illustrate the devastating impact of war on the civilians.
He said that like it was supposed to color her character into this sinister being faking at being good. Sounds like more after-the-fact lazy and ill conceived plot rationalization from D&D to me.
GRRM is apparently (based on quotes I read) going in the same direction with Dany.

The point being IMO, that 'goodness' is not a immutable trait, and that power is a corrupting influence. All power needs to be checked IMO, and what I think Tyrion was pointing out was that people basically cheered her whenever she engaged in mass murder (because the people were bad), she is very rarely challenged for her rampant willingness to kill rather her opposition.

You point out the US governments military intervention, and there are (IME) people who justify almost any and every US military intervention. Either outright supporting it, or excusing terrible things (eg. The School Of The Americas) as ethically insignificant. Which has parallels to Dany's story, she was basically celebrated whenever she killed her opposition... Only in Mereen when she murdered innocent people (ie. master who opposed the slave practice), and when she killed the Tarly men, did she face some kind of backlash from people closest to her (but she brushed it off, relatively quickly).

Like this video points out IMO brilliantly, the closer Dany got to the Iron Throne, the more entitled she became.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4bff4LyuDM

Throughout Dany's life, she never said (like the vid pointed out) that she should be Queensolelybecause she would protect and help the people of Westeros, she spoke about being Queen due to her 'birthright'.

In contrast to people like Varys and the Brotherhood without Banners, who (even whilst doing deeply shady crap at times) in word and actions were generally consistent in caring for the people. Even when Dany joined the Winterfell, she outright told Sansa that she was fighting out of her love for Jon.

Again, I'm not saying that she didn't overall have a strong sense of benevolence, but she also had traits like entitlement and a violent... And, like I said at the start, 'goodness' isn't immutable... It's something that has to be nurtured and maintained.

I spoke to an ex-member of the military, who had killed someone in combat... He told me that he never accepted the medal for what he did, because he didn't to celebrate killing another human being, even though it was a member of the enemy... Dany got cheers whenever she engaged in the mass murder of enemies... I think partly what Tyrion was saying, was that she lost perspective regarding the gravity of the things she had done.

I don't think as many people have a problem with "Mad Queen Dany" as they do with how DnD wrote it.

Mad Queen has been a book theory since before the show even began, and if that's how it goes I have no doubt Martin will do a great job of it. There is already more to work/build off of in the book than the show ever had.

None of the "end points" bother me (other than Arya V. NightKing) in so far as where the characters end up. The problem with the endings is that very little of it is earned or written well.

So what? Isnt that what the worlds governments do? Especially the US?

He said that like it was supposed to color her character into this sinister being faking at being good. Sounds like more after-the-fact lazy and ill conceived plot rationalization from D&D to me.
Fukn lol. The US install and remove dictators as necessary for access to resources.

The writers were trying (terribly) to make Dany out to be like Hitler, Pol Pot etc. People who had a radically different vision for social and economic structures and were happy to murder, literally, anyone who either resisted or didn't qualify for their new world.

Problem is, they tried to turn her into some power mad tyrant/revolutionary over the course of two episodes and it didn't work very well.
