I've had dudes that I was hanging out with have their card declined, and in those instances I've paid for their meals. If $12 is breaking the bank, you have bigger issues. It's about not being a huge douche bag. If I had a girl, and she treated me that way, I would have dumped her then and there.

If it's someone you have known for a while or a friend etc then a dinner first date is ok but you're a moron if you've just met a random chick and take her out to a pricey restaurant on the first date. The first date should be some form of activity, a time to get to know them. If my boy was coming through for food (and we often all alternate between who pays), and he forgot his wallet I'd get him no problem. My boys are a great crew and we take care of each other.

Even if my girl goes to pay the bill or order the food i'll always give her my card (She'll never actually use it though - Just seems to take it to make me feel better).
