They make what a teacher should make, but many teachers are just bad at their job. The lowest of the low want to be a teacher because it really is a cushy jobs and these parasites exploit that.

In the same post I'd like to state that any teacher pretending they work CEO hours should jus tfuk off and die. You're working bish hours and some of you go the extra mile. Rarely will a teacher actially work +50 hours in a week. Your job is very important, but not extraordinarily difficult.

Disagree. You have to factor in the countless hours that go into lesson planning that isn't accounted for.

Not really for either side but want to point out some things to people on the first page.

- teachers have to plan out lessons that follow the curriculum and mark papers/homework etc. plus meetings with the admin teams their day is longer than when the kids show up and when they go home.

- secondly, the type of people who become teachers aren’t usually the best our society has to offer.

I think 80k is fair. I also think it should pay a lot more to entice the best of society to become teachers. You would see flow on effects to the skill levels in the population.

Agree 100% and I'm not a teacher- I fit more into the category of Catbrah's supposedly underpaid friends.

I used to really enjoy Catbrah's posts and rustling- always got a laugh from me but really, all this chit about flat Earth and other BS he carries on with have put me off and are strong evidence as to why we need to pay teachers more. The education system has clearly failed when it produces someone living in a supposedly first-world, educated country like the US who spouts the absolute idiotic chit that Catbrah does. He is either an uneducated, shut-in redneck or has some serious cognitive or mental impairment going on..... maybe he picked up some nasty toxoplasmosis from his poor management of cat hygiene.

Teachers have to put up with heaps of chit- I was a terrible student, as were many others but through their patience, I got to where I am today (others fell through the cracks). You cannot underestimate their importance in shaping society. Just as for other careers in a capitalist economy, higher pay should mean higher standards and barriers to entry as the job will become more competitive. If we can attract the best and brightest to teaching, then that is a good thing and will have flow-on effects to wellbeing of the population.

Also, agree with others saying teaching should be regarded as a professional job as it is in many European countries, with teachers paid similarly to engineers, lawyers, health care workers.

K-12 teachers are generally overpaid, and there are barriers to entry and strict protections that make the education market very inefficient. On the other hand, professors and researchers are generally underpaid.

To be honest, if OP genuinely thinks that the Earth is flat, his opinion about what teachers should be paid is worth nothing.

Then again, it's no small wonder that somebody who can't grasp something as simple as the Earth being round (which was discovered with far less technology than OP has access to) can't understand why teachers are an important part of our society.

I guess it's time to pack it up and go home.

It's a cycle, really. It's a career with mostly mediocre pay and zero respect. Take high school teachers, for instance. Why would anyone in the right mind with actual skill and talent want to live that kind of life where they're constantly dealing with a ridiculous administration, unreasonable parents, and their spoiled teenage brats? Hence, the type of people who become high school teachers are either losers who can't let go of their childhood/teenage years or screwed up sloots wanting easy access to underage dinks (of course, there are good teachers as well).

It's a career with overinflated value because "think of the fukking kids" so no one can think straight and acknowledge that it's a high supply position where every other chick wants to be one so they can satisfy their maternal instincts or whatever self - embracing reason they might have.

The subject matter is incredibly simple. If kids can learn 3x4 in a single year then i dont see why teachers gotta spend like 4 (not including teachers College) to teach them that crap

Anyway, teachers don't deserve extra cash specifically because they work with kids. You think the rest of the world derives much satisfaction from our jobs? Teachers deserve to get paid less because they work in a position with more emotional satisfaction and life meaning and ****. Pick one: good pay or feel good about your impact on the world.

Brah, anyone who has to work with anyone has felt the need to power bomb some dick head off the side of a building. Coworkers, clients, marketing/sales (fuk these dudes), managers etc.

Teachers can at least give detention, call parents, involve the principal, and talk shyt during parent teacher conferences.

When I want to send a client through the fukking placement it's just "have a good day sir" and then maybe write a bunch of comments about how the client is a huge ******* in the code

the reality is that there are too many teachers and too many who are of no value. most kids shouldn't be going to school and their education doesn't really amount to anything...these teachers are basically just gardeners watering weeds. teachers are making more than enough. don't want to hear that nonsense about doing things outside work hours.

I think teaching should be proportional to the level of the kids you teach and the difficulty level.

Teaching primary like grades 1-4? Make less. You're doing basic stuff and things like lesson plans, marking are less involved.

High school - make more. Lesson plans are way more involved, there's usually more parent interaction and after hours is way more common.

If you have to deal with special populations like autistic kids or handicapped kids you make more. It's a specialization.

My issue is that teachers are always whining about how much they make when they have easy paths to make more - take courses, go into admin, etc. and you get automatic bonuses. They threaten to strike whenever their contract comes up even though they get automatic pay increases yearly just by existing. Average salary here in Ontario is 87k and with benefits, etc. it's over 100. And that's for working 10 months of the year. Way too high. If they cut that by 20k per teacher each school would be able to hire a couple of more teachers and then they could stop whining about not enough bodies.
