He was all about protecting and furthering the company. No family, no real displays of emotion, and no sense of self-preservation. I liked his dynamic with Homelander because of how unique his motivations were. Homelander monitors the hell out of him for years (heartbeat, temperature, perspiration, health, sympathetic/parasympathetic reactions). The dudes heartbeat never rose above baseline and he was the only character who really unbalanced Homelander. Because of this, Homelander developed this need to impress him (along with some intense loathing) because he felt Stillwell was the only true super human he ever really met. This served as the main motivator for everything he did in the comic. That scene I linked was the best scene in the comic IMO because it's the first and only time we really saw Stillwell not acting like a corporate machine/manager. It was completely out of the left feld and legit made me lol. With Mama Stillwell, it just won't have the same impact. Not familiar with the comic at all but can't see a better resolution than this had with a cocky dude in that role. She is perfect for homelander's character arc.
Now their entire relationship just boils down to mommy issues (which we've seen a thousand times more than the original relationship), and that makes Homelander come off as kind of childish and beta. Yeah, it's a similar arc for Homelander regardless, but his motivations are kind of lame/typical now.

No?
Anyway, yeah Ezekiel was also a drug runner for $$$ and while it is a normal SJW trope to depict Christians as hypocrites like this, the show is completely non-PC and they take it to everyone, they actually show Islamic terrorists for fuk's sake, which is just unheard of these days. So, they give chit to everyone, I have zero problems with them poking at these mega-Church Christians, it's not like they're doing it in the typical SJW framing. They just dump on everything.
I'm almost done with the show -- I earlier said it starts a little slow and hadn't hooked me as much as others, but taken as a whole this show is a rare delight thatonly gets better as the season progresses. You don't see that a lot. They really were just setting the table the first couple episodes, it only gets crazier, deeper, more nuanced and insane as it goes along and by the end I was completely roped into this show.
Highly recommend. Worth paying for but if you have Amazon Prime (and everyone should anyway) getting this for basically free is a no-brainer. Watch it. As soon as you can get 7-8 free hours to binge, do it.
Edit: Just finished. That's a cliffhanger. Thankfully it's already been renewed for Season 2. Going to be a long wait.

I enjoyed it man. Karl Urban is fukking hilarious the entire thing, he nailed that role. Also nice to see my boy Lucas Hood in another show since I'm the only person in my circle who's watched Banshee.
Idk who said Elizabeth Shue still has sex appeal but all that loose skin on her arms makes me say that's gonna be a no from me dawg. She looks like your absolute average soccer mom, which worked for this role.
The Deep brought the awkward lols and A-Train's Make-A-Wish scene was hilarious.
The wife and I wrapped up S1 yesterday, I wanted a little more out of the finale but 8 episodes seems to be the norm these days, I would have liked to see 10, I think they could have fleshed a couple things out a little bit more (Black Noir, maybe?). From the guy I know who read the comics, this is a pretty drastic deviation from those so I'm curious to see how S2 plays out.

Damn, Anthony Starr (Lucas Hood/Homelander) KILLED it in this show. Karl Urban probably my favorite on the show but this thing is almost perfectly cast.
I have the finale tonight - fell asleep on the couch trying to stay up and watch last night. Show is so fukken fun.

You are also kind of contradicting this, when you describe Stillwell as a woman that can't handle chit nor control her emotions. SJW wahmen characters are always perfect, flawless and show no weakness. She did. Thus, she's not a SJW-trope. In a SJW show, all the colored and female characters would have been virtuous and all the villains would have been cis-white men. That wasn't the case here, not at all, as there were plenty of villainous/disgusting characters of all races and genders.
So, while I am only a little familiar with the comics and this adaptation might be a very watered down version of it (and knowing Garth Ennis, there is no way you could do a straight adaptation of almost everything he writes), I am not suggesting this show is above being criticized or has no flaws -- I'm just saying, this specific critique that it's a SJW show, I don't see it.
Being a little familiar with the comics -- it looks like they're folding the Stillwell character arc with his relationship to the Homelander into Homelander's relationship with Butcher, to a degree. Which explains why Homelander did some of the things he did or didn't do some things with him.
Spoiler!
Why he saved his life and didn't just kill him at the very end -- Homelander was shocked this was the first guy he ever knew who wasn't afraid of him, even Stillwell was afraid of him, and he wants to keep him around to prove himself, to get a rise out of Butcher, which is why he both saved his life at the end somehow and didn't kill him in that moment
Don't know, we'll see. I'll stick to my assessment: Great show, only gets better, not PC, great cliffhanger ending

Maybe some clever Regisseur could pull it off with a great actor somehow, but the chances of it backfiring and ending up in cringy bad acting clips are pretty high.

I don't think it's impossible to portrait Stillwell in live action, it's not easy but not impossible.
The final major twist in the comics was crazy good and really caught me off guard.
But the reason why i find that twist to be good is that it was surprising but it didn't come out of the left field because they kept giving subtle clues from the beginning
The twists in the show were meh at most compare to the original
While in the comics they really kept me reading cause i wanted to know what will happen next

Up to episode 7.
Butcher bothers me a bit. Just because he is more genocidal than vengeance oriented (except the baby)... His scope is too big for me.
Queen Maive is so far my semi-favorite because I don't know what she is. She still seems to want to do the right thing, but she has gotten dirty along the way.
I like Starlight a bit as she is principled. Her character has development problems though. She never had "growth" to change her views on gays, "KNowing" God existed.... She went to these concerts/worship sessions consistently and was a okay with it. 2 weeks later she is completely moderate. As of right now she is a bit too much of a Mary Sue.

Just Finished the series. The Deep is definitely a miscer and would probably have a pretty high rep on here as well.
The ending was pretty nuts too I did not see that coming at all
Spoiler!
I wanted to see what the Lamplighter looked like and his powers were.

Just started watching but a very intriguing story. Veteran actors/actress and new ones doing a great job together.
