They are people, doing a highly dangerous job.

There is no war we need to be fighting to protect ourselves or our freedom right now, or indeed anyone else’s on our ally list.

A very close family friend served multiple tours in the Middle East in the special forces and he doesn’t feel like a hero but thankfully doesn’t seem to have been irreparably damaged by the experience either.

They have a very challenging job, but that is not heroic of its own right.

(Not anti military at all. I just think the hero culture is highly detrimental all around as it stops the issues being addressed for veterans and sets them apart from everyone else making them feel isolated. It’s just a lip service thing where they aren’t viewed as people who face the same challenges we do and need the same help we do (more so tbh).

It’s a direct barrier to helping veterans.
this not every vet is a hero most dont even see combat nowadays

about half of the people who joined did it for benefits

i respect firefighters more than i respect some of my fellow soldiers

If you are unable to fulfill your objectives because of the enemy military to the point where you lose the will to fight that's a loss mate, body count has nothing to do with it

I guess the same applies to police and firefighters?

We should all be thanking you for paying taxes on your measly income?

I don't expect chit from anyone. I do ask about MIL discounts where available, because who doesn't like a discount? I always look around first and try to whisper when I ask though; always feel like I might get hate from someone.

You could start by not starting a war with every country around the globe where rhe elected leader isn't to your liking.

The problem is that military worshippers get too emotional like feminists or liberals. They can't discuss this topic with logic as they will start using personal insults..

Truth = you are going abroad to die for old rich men to get richer, not to protect your country. Most of military dudes had nothing else going for them so they joined..

This should have been obvious as fuk ever since Vietman.. brb going to stop communism from spreading in Asia lmao
brb going to Iraq after 9/11 even though it had nothing to do with it, brb 0 wmds found

and I'm not even hating, I think a strong government like US should go rape and pillage, that's what humans do, but don't act like noble people, they are organized terrorists pretty much..

There is absolutely nothing special about people in the military. Are there good, honorable people in the military who do it for the right reasons? Absolutely. Just like there are good, honorable people who install cable because they like the tech side of stuff or something (idk). For people who like shooting, drinking, or fukin off, the military is there for them.

Military was a great experience for me, wouldn't trade it for anything. I've also made more money from the military since I got out than I did when I was in (I've been out as long as I was in). Talked my girlfriend into joining the guard, she's getting a 60k bonus, they're repaying 50k or so of her loans and she'll be out in 3 years. Even if she didn't get paid at all, ~40k/year for 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks a year is pretty damn good. It's a great tool if you use it right.

nice strawman

the undeniable truth is that the globe has been in the longest period of peace because of big daddy USA and its unstoppable war machine

the military is a necessity and a job like any other
