Presumably the food is the kitchen's fault, not the server's. Obv if the server never checks in or refills beverages, that's a reason to tip less.

So you're supposed to tip even if your experience is bad?

I feel for the waitresses that are working too many tables because they are understaffed, but as a customer I suffer, so why would I pay extra for poor service?

I mean if she's working 6 tables instead of 3 lower tip percentages should be expected because of the volume?

How would the senator even get the bill? The waitress would have to know who the person (senator) is, hand them the bill, and let this unfold. I think that's highly unprofessional, and the business should pay for the malfeasance.

Maybe in USA, but most of the world realises tipping is not required, you tip if someone gives above average service and if you wan to (i.e it's optional) and you should not be demonised for not tipping. If the employee doesn't earn enough, that's between them and their employer, the price is the price. If it's truly mandatory, include a damn service charge, otherwise it's optional and people should not be made to feel bad, or doxxed like this (which is absurd tbh).

One thing i also find bizarre as a European, is Americans giving a 'bad tip' if the service isn't good. lol so your waiter is **** and they still get a tip? No, if the service is anything below average they get NOTHING.

why not both? When the minimum wage was increased in Alberta to$15/hr we saw increases in restaraunt prices and no changes to the tip system, fuked double hard

This. But the cheap fuks above will never understand. Like demented grandpa haggling over a slightly overcooked burger and tipping a quarter for a $60 family meal. Never want to go out with them because u know it will be a miserable experience, looking for crap to bish about.

Some restaurants enforce a minimum 17% added to bill. You can tip add'l if desired. That 17% is the same as raising the wages of the employees and raising the prices of the food. By keeping it optional, it (usually) keeps the service quality up.

European restaurants are way better than American ones, not even close. Also, we do tip too, if we feel like it.

I try to give a flat fee tip, not based on percentage. Typically around $3 per person at the table. Sorry but if I decide to order the $30 steak rather than the $15 chicken breast, that means absolutely nothing to the waiter and they should not be tipped differently.

If I get bad service, I leave a small tip. If I get great service, I leave a great tip. Pretty damn simple.

Tipping is basically socialism. Lol @ always giving a tip regardless of how bad the service was.

I thought the whole point of tipping was to motivate better/faster service from the waiters, in which case you wouldn't be leaving more than 10-15% bar exceptional service.

Not much I don't like about the US but tipping culture is one of them. Especially as you don't include tax on the list price before you know it a $30 bill is $50.

Also the notion that you should tip a % of the bill is ridiculous. The waiter does no more or less work bringing you a $50 steak or a $12 salad.

I do usually add a 10% tip when I eat out in the US because although I don't like it I respect the culture and I'm too retarded to work out any more complicated %. But I never tip on the food truck/chipotle style restaurants.

Oh also tipping at bars? $1 for every drink? Fuk that.
