If you are a confronted by a large angry/aggressive person and your armed and give them a warning don't come any closer or I'll shoot you. Then he throws a bat at you while coming at you. Its kind of a natural and justifiable reaction to put him down.
Based on SYG they may be found not guilty. I'm sure the investigators/prosecutors determined they had a legitimate case against them. Most likely because they inserted themselves into an altercation and brought firearms to the party.

And I'd argue that the at worst is more than a bruise, you could be legitimately seriously injured by a bat thrown by a grown man at that range, broken facial bones, concussion, teeth knocked out, much worse than "get a bruise"
You're right in the bottom line though.It was one bat, it was thrown, shooting isn't going to stop the bat from being thrown, and even when he was standing there with the bat, just start backing away and leave, problem solved. But nooooo, nobody who goes outside to confront a neighbor, sans shirt, would be man enough to walk away.

edit: btw, I've already posted too much here so I'll edit this in instead of making a new post but this is textbook why you DO NOT brandish your firearm unless there is a need to use it. Firearms are not going to deescalate any situation, you do not use them to intimidate someone and stop them, none of that, no shooting in the leg or horsechit like that either. Don't pull it unless there is an immediately threat that demands you use lethal force to stop someone.
So, while I've been pretty favorable to the fat guys, even not knowing what happened before they took their guns out, that was a huge mistake and however bad the situation was, they contributed to making it worse.

Now, I think these two guys should have backed off way before, probably minutes beforesomeone felt it necessary to pull out their phone to record and well before it became a good idea to take off your shirt and brandish firearms, but if you're 5'8" and 240lbs of pure lard and you and your old man are about 1-1/2 flights of stairs away from a heart attack, having a big screaming lunatic charging at you and throwing weapons, then you have found yourself in a very bad place to be -- andlet me say it again, they should have left long before they found themselves in this spot, but once in it - how easily do you think methman could have disarmed one or both fatbros and skullfuked the two of them with their own weapons while his woman cheered him on?
Pretty fuking easily.
edit: btw, I've already posted too much here so I'll edit this in instead of making a new post but this is textbook why you DO NOT brandish your firearm unless there is a need to use it. Firearms are not going to deescalate any situation, you do not use them to intimidate someone and stop them, none of that, no shooting in the leg or horsechit like that either. Don't pull it unless there is an immediately threat that demands you use lethal force to stop someone.
So, while I've been pretty favorable to the fat guys, even not knowing what happened before they took their guns out, that was a huge mistake and however bad the situation was, they contributed to making it worse.
