Funny, I've been saying that since the second listen! I totally get an Undertow vibe in sevenempest. I'd say the album definitely has a feel of Lateralus and 10k days, but don't get any AEnima, or at least very very little.

side note, was travelling when tickets went on sale... 2 fukkin shows at Staples center sold out in the first hour... tried to buy at 11am-ish NOPE. I've seen them on EVERY album tour, and will be pissed if I don't see them on this one lol. Best show ever was a "warm up" gig they did at the Paramount Theater in Oakland. 3k seater, beautiful theater, and was just them. I just looked up the setlist, look at this ****

Damn, that setlist is legit. Only 2 songs missing are H. And Push!t.

I’ve only been lucky enough to hear Push!t at 1 of their shows back when Lateralus was about to be released or just was. Such an amazing song.

They're coming to Boston in Nov but no way in hell am I paying $230+ for a balcony ticket!

I'll just buy the CD and drive around blasting it in my car...

Idk man, I’ve tried listening to a bunch of their stuff. They are a great band and I have nothing against them. They just don’t speak to me. The way I put it to a friend was they remind me of a metal Radiohead. I prefer my Radiohead type stuff to be a bit more melon collie/electronic/atmospheric.

I dont really listen to any metal with the exception of lifting.

I love tool though.

Edit: I’d still recommend them to anyone who enjoys tool and/or Radiohead though

I love radiohead and tool, but i could go the rest of my life without hearing another deftones song and not be phased. Radiohead pumped out some chitty albums, but that's just my opinion due to being a much bigger fan of their chit on Kid A, OK Computer, In Rainbows and even A Moon Shaped Pool.

The entire Tool discog doesn't miss a beat, however.

Gore was different but wasn't too bad IMO. Definitely their weakest though for sure. Everything other than that is amazing however. They're another band who is known for their consistency over the past 20+ years as you know. As much as I love Tool/APC, Deftones holds a special place in my heart.

That's insane. When they came here 2 years ago I paid $80 for a decent seat. That show was even better than the one I saw here in 1998.

I'm done comparing this album to their other works. I am really pleased with this album.

IMO, AEnima is simply a perfect album, and it got me wondering... How many bands released their GOAT album as their sophomore release? I would say Metallica did it, I could even argue Deftones (but self titled and Diamond Eyes are a three way tie for me with ATF), maybe Brand New?
