I killed three to four dozen wild boar on my grandfathers ranch with a rifle between the ages of 14 and 17. Collectively, the family killed hundreds in that time frame. Personally, the ONLY time I was able to kill an adult boar with a single shot was on the rare occasion that they weren't spooked by/aware of our presence. The vast majority of the time they'd bolt because they learned to associate the presence of humans/motor sounds with death. Dead serious.
Anyway, I had two extremely close calls. One resulted in my 72 year-old grandfather running wide-open to intercept a boar I had only wounded as it charged me. He dumped every slug he had loaded into that hog and it finally went down less than 20 feet from me.
The second time is a terrible memory. We stumbled across a massive sow right in the middle of giving birth. She'd already had 2 piglets and was too weak to move when we found her. My grandfather killed her with with a single slug to the head at point-blank range, but as he was walking up to her she was screeching insanely loud. Her 'scream' was heard by the other hogs and we could literally hear them coming. My grandfather stomped the two newborn piglets to death and commanded me to get on my four-wheeler and we drove away with a pack of 20+ boars chasing us.
Grandpa was a hard-azz man. RIP
*Edit*
Now days there are entire YouTube channels dedicated to exterminating boars/hogs with long-range rifles and top-tier night vision equipment. That stuff didn't exist when I was a kid. Hunting boar in the early 90s was dangerous as phuuuuck. Still is without that crazy-tier equipment.

Dogs run for 1000 miles on the Iditarod in a little more than a week. I don't think any human on this planet could keep up a pace like that.
Of course, the claim may only apply to large prey species, but the point remains...

people don't realize how deadly wild boars are.
in fact if humans weren't around to keep them in check they would dominate the lands just about everywhere in no time.
and kudzu. wild boars and kudzu would cover the Earth.

I now see why the boars in Far Cry 5 and AC Odyssey are the toughest animals in the series by far.

Can confirm, My property in Texas is over run with hogs. Drink beer and kill as many as we can. It doesn't make a dent in the population.
