It's judo. They neutralize quickly and you're usually in a close up situation when in street fights. The reason why judo is so poor in MMA is because they lack offensive takedowns, which is negated in street fights.

It’s actually cuz people don’t wear gi’s

Not wearing a gi negates a huge amount of judo techniques

Muay Thai > Boxing in a street fight

Depends also on quality of instructors

Kicking > hands

Hands can break during a street fight

A mix of the common ones are always good, but according to my DT instructor, a mix of boxing, grappling (specifically the ground control techniques), krav maga and jujitsu are ideal.

When I was a kid I was a boxing nut. A local neighbor kid turned me on to boxing, he was going for the golden gloves and his dad was an experienced boxer. He was big into bag work. He had the heavy bag, double end bag and speed bags. He taught me the drills and how to use each bag.

I eventually got all those bags in my basement and I used to spend hours hitting the bags, shadow boxing and etc. I read books on boxing, watched every boxing match, interviews with boxers and trainers etc.

When I turned 17 and had my own wheels I found a boxing gym and joined up. The head coach was impressed with me and I was really destroying all the other beginners. He put me in the ring in some small matches and I did pretty good. He passed me on to another guy who trained some very serious athletes. Thats when the reality of it hit me. The difference between what I was, and what some of those guys were was like throwing a bucket of cold water on my self image. I stuck it out with that group for about year, basically getting whaled on by guys who were so much better than me it was ridiculous.

The road from where I was, to where they were was a long painful one and I decided it was not a road I wanted to travel. I was already in college and had a bright future that didnt include brain injury so I quit. I still love boxing, and I have continued to work the bags on and off my entire life. It came in useful a couple of times in bar rooms, I know I carry myself a certain way knowing that I'm not a punk so in that regard it has probably influenced my life in ways that I don't even understand.

Yeah, go box op. It'll do you good.

Maybe I'm being idealistic, but can you imagine boxers getting confronted on the street, it must be easy work for them. And I don't even mean the big guys, relatively "small" guys, middleweights (160lbs) like Canelo and Gennady Golovkin. Again, excluding the scenario that they're confronted with weapons or seriously outnumbered.

The reason for me asking is that I'm quite an introverted and docile guy. I randomly think of these scenarios where I'm confronted and I end up being too chicken **** to defend myself against someone trying to mug me for example and then I end up either getting my ass whooped or just punked. I'm going to pick up one of these arts in the future, just wondering your opinions?

In real life? Yes that and Muay Thai will be the best. You dont want to be in a situation thats puts you rolling on the ground with someone. That is a ticket to get stomped out and put in a coma by the guys friends.

Depends on the skill of the attacker. Against your usual joe who can't fight very well, boxing works wonders, but against someone who's a little skilled if not more, other arts such like MMA in general should work better.

The issue with a gun is, in order to use it it has to be deployed from it's holster and if you are in the middle of a fight you need to have strong hand to hand skills to not only keep the threat at bay long enough to deploy the weapon but also worry about not letting the other person get it first so weapon retention too.

What organizations are the schools in your area affiliated with?

This covers it. Conceled carry is #1. Western boxing and wrestling are some of the best, that's hard to learn later in life though and you need to be in decent shape. I'd say BJJ for the average Joe office worker, you can limit damage and run the **** away (although I recently saw a BJJ get his as ls kicked 1 on 1 at a bar recently). There is no magical martial art where you're going to take on 5 guys. Most street fights are a sucker punch and/or getting jumped. From my experience my simple hs wrestling helped me the most when I got in a few scraps because it was all muscle memory and I didn't have to think. That has to be really hard to learn when you're an adult, have a job, bills, kids, etc. Its a ****ing grind. I never want to go back to another wrestling practice lol.

Nothing wrong with being afraid? - Street fights i avoid like the PLAGUE!

Age 7-14 i was fighting everyone i could. So aggressive.
18+ Been in 2 street fights - Once because a man hit his wife in front of me & last time. Was buying a pizza & some random guy headbutted me.

I fear it for 2 reasons. 1. What will i do if they pull out a knife? 2. I'm a trained fighter - What happens if i throw a punch, knock a guy out & his head hits the ground...

That's some bullchit. BJJ and MMA gyms here start at 100 dollars a month. The boxing gym I go to is 50.00/month, and it's 90min per session 3x per week. If they opened a school for 50 per month here I'd be the first to sign up.

Yeah boxing is the best. I’m biased though.

A jab followed by a straight right or a hook to the body is enough to take 99% of people out.
You learn to dodge punches and be comfortable with someone trying to hit you. You also learn to be comfortable with actually getting hit, and that you aren’t made of glass (hopefully lol).

Plus boxing is dirt cheap.

Don't know but it's irrelevant because Krav Maga isn't meant for sport. There is sparring/fighting in Krav Maga training but it differs from competition fighting.
