WHy Does Everyone Suddenly Have Anxiety?

What is anxiety even? I don't know anymore. It seems 90% of people my age and younger that I know suddenly have anxiety. From memes, to comments about it when telling stories, etc.

I just watched a video on youtube for the movie Midsommar, and every other comment talked about this specific part giving them "anxiety."

I know two people that actually have anxiety, and it impacts their day to day life. It is noticeable.

I swear if I hear a chick say "omg my anxiety" or post about it another time on instagram again, I'm gonna blow my top. This has to be one of the most annoying trends right now.

Or does more than half the population suddenly have this made up "anxiety."

It’s existential. The feeling of being inadequate and not being all that we can be. The deep internal knowledge that there ismoreyet we are not experiencing it. Humans are made to have hope and a destiny. We were made to be extraordinary and fulfill our God-given purpose.
Apart from God there is no purpose, thus anxiety.

I mean I understand mental illness is rising, and so is suicide rate, but what does that have to do with anxiety? So you just get it now? You're not born with it? Is it like the flu?

Do people really make this stuff up now or do they think being a little nervous about life goals is suddenly anxiety? It's like it is "what's in" at this time.

Because they expect to have everything while doing nothing. They get told their whole lives how special they are, then they go out into the world and get treated like everyone else. This is why we’ve seen the explosion of social media. They’re desperate to look like they have it all. Everyone wants to be famous but very few will actually achieve any sort of meaningful existence beyond what they can do for themselves. Deep down people realize this and it creates an existential crisis, but they keep denying the reality. This leads to the anxiety.

It’s why men kill themselves and women wind up with houses full of cats. They just can’t be happy with a reasonable existence and attain realistic reachable goals. They always want more but won’t settle for anything because they can’t accept the fact that they’re statistically average.

Okay so anxiety is mroeso a feeling apart from actual disorder? Because the people I know that actually have it, and have had it since they were quite young, take pills and have it all the time.

Everyone else seems to just suddenly get it and post about it like they are super relate-able and deserve understanding and special treatment. "I'm like this because of my anxiety," bull****.

Is this why people are all on pills? People just make up that they suddenly have anxiety and run to get pills to be a part of the group?

Everyone always had "anxiety".... there are just less people like you judging everyone, so people feel more comfortable coming out about their mental health issues.

Its like those un-educated sub-middle/lower class people who say "ehhh its all in your head, gotta just get over it"... that autism doesn't cover it anymore, with all the studies and empirical evidence to back mental health assertions in the modern day. SRS

because all thought is a process and when theres too much to process in society the brain is overwhelmed and causes dissonance.

The human has not evolved as fast as technology, society, and the complexities of an increasingly overpopulated planet, our brain becomes anxietized and overwhelmed with information overload.

We are more in accord with a simple life of eating drinking sleeping and boom boom time.

-Godless generation (I am not even religious)
-Childfree generation

What is left? There are exceptional people out that can carve out their own meaning and happiness in life, but the average pleb cannot. The lines and distinction between Male and Female get further blurred everyday. Men take on the worst characteristics women and women take on the most repulsive characteristics of men. Instead of comparing themselves to who they were yesterday and their immediate community, people look at the 1% through the internet, the many better than them and feel like worthless puppets with no purpose in life.

"Just find your own path, bro!" What does the average person do with this useless advice? Most people have no great skill, quality or talent to make it big. They end becoming some miserable corporate cog working for a billion dollar company, hookup with nasty randoms, smoke weed, drink, over consume junk food and overindulge in self-pleasure in general. Socialization is poorly developed from a young age, people become jaded with relationships and life in general.

Government becomes the new god, cats/dogs are used as copes for having no children. Social interaction is replaced with screens.

But, "Why Does Everyone Suddenly Have Anxiety?" you ask.

Our ancestors were barbaric and primitive in a lot of ways, but maybe it is time to recognize they may have gotten some chit right? Humans may one day evolve to become accustomed to our current 21st century lives, but that is a long process and we're not close to nearly there yet.

Of course it’s a feeling. I’m not being cheeky to you so don’t take it like that.

It’s mostly a manufactured symptom of the current society that we live in. It’s not a quantifiable ailment, at least physically, although it can manifest that way. The roots are psychological but it’s a symptom of a completely different problem, one that is mostly avoidable.

Think about it this way. If every person set realistic goals for themselves and could be satisfied with that outcome, there would be no anxiety because they would simply accept their life as is and learn to be happy with it. Instead we live in this constantly churning narcissistic space where everyone is constantly trying to out perform each other on a grand scale that goes all the way to the upper echelons of society. Every chick wants to be Cardi B or one of the Kardashians but how realistic is that? Like when you sit down and actually think about it. Not likely. But no one can accept just being a spoke in the wheel anymore, even if they’re doing much better comparatively than those around them. It’s never enough, and they create huge amounts of angst within themselves over it.

Prior generations didn’t have this problem because I think society in general was more realistic, hierarchical (from birth, you were born directly into what you were going to be for the most part), and there were other issues present (war, poverty). Because of all of this people were just generally more happy with the smaller comforts in life. If you had a job, a roof over your head, a decent spouse, and weren’t being shipped off to die on Iwo Jima next week you had it pretty good, and you knew it. No globalization, no constant technological communication showing you how good the 1 percent had it, etc.

Nowadays there are no real life threats like that so people just sit around and daydream about impossibilities and are never satisfied. It’s a real problem and it’s getting worse.

Take it easy man.

Sounds like you could possibly have anxiety!

And yeah, this is just another group that people belong to. It's simply a byproduct of the lonely times young *******s grew up in.

What a time to be alive.

There's no way this is a serious post. Judging?

Sorry I'm not a panzy ******* like half of society that thinks getting nervous, having a rough go in life, and trying to grind through meaning, automatically becomes anxiety. That is just a bull**** term that people use nowadays to cover up their inability to deal with any daily stressor because they are weak.

I am a person that is confident in who I am. Does me getting nervous for a job interview mean I have anxiety and need pills? How about when I moved back home from california, had 22k in student loans with no money, no job, and no path in life. Was me stressing about my situation "anxiety?" Is that when I develop it? Is that when I go and get the pills?

If I wasn't on recharge I'd neg you. I have only given out 1 neg since coming back.

Okay this is the best summation of what I was thinking. Initially, I though anxiety was purely a disorder to the point where a small percentage of the population had it from either trauma, and/or genetics. Or that you experienced anxiety from irrational fear, which is indeed quite uncommon.

But now I understand that it is a made up buzz word nowadays to use to cover up their inability to cope with their life. You hit the nail on the head about the current societal normality that is making this world a breeding ground for weak and hollow people.

As much as I hate being this person, God or even reading and understanding the bible would clear up so much uncertainty in their life.

Maybe everyone's always had it, it's just social media's made it easier to communicate that feeling.

Or maybe the invention of social media has pushed survival traits in a different direction, making other traits suffer.

So what's the "feeling" of anxiety then?

Any negative feeling? I don't understand.

Anxiety is a response to something. It may be a situation, a person. Everybody experiences this, but panic disorder is a different beast. You would have to go through it to really understand and I really hope you never do.
