I'd say the majority of adults suffer from chronic fatigue to some degree unless they're getting 8+ hours of quality sleep every night (and sticking to a strict sleep schedule), which very few do, and the elevated cortisol resulting from poor sleep habits leads to feeling of "anxiety"

I'd say social media has a lot to do with it. So many are obsessed with comparing themselves to others and of course what you post for the world to see will only be the illusion you want to give off. Kids have parents that post their entire lives on social media, girls expect that guys have x amount of points on chit like Snapchat. People who don't have/use Instagram and the like are seen as weird. I did plenty of stupid stuff as a youth, but lucky for me there isn't video or photographic proof that will last forever.

I don’t have it “all of a sudden” I’ve had it most of my life. I think a lot of it has to do with my stepdad. I had to tip toe around him most of my life because he was a psycho, and I think it just developed from there.

If you’re living a comfortable life in a first world country you’re better off that the vast majority of the world.

And like another poster said, how many adults really get adequate sleep? Without any research I’d guess our diets consisting of highly processed food and chemicals doesn’t help either.
I don’t have anxiety but I have had one anxiety attack when I was in high school. Was just on the way to school, no test or any reason to be nervous. But I literally felt like I was gonna die, the bus was like spinning as if I was drunk. Can’t imagine having those feelings with any sort of regularity

It's a feedback loop; builds on itself
I think a common one is the fear of fear. Its not really the or a fear itself, its fear of what happens when the feeling comes about.
Its an evolutionary tool. It happens when some event you experience is different from normal society, and its a warning that youre about to be outcast from normal society ---> e.g. when making a speech in front of an audience "omg what if i make a mistake theyre gonna think im so stupid. What if i say something stupid" then they start sweating, and they try to stop it, then they try to stop those feelings/ thoughts themselves and then those thoughts build on top of each other and they try to supress it, but it keeps happening and making it worse
Theres a bunch of types that fall under the anxiety and imo its the main cause of depression. What typically happens is people get anxiety; hate the feeling of the thing that causes them anxiety; then they avoid the thing that causes them anxiety and it leads to depression
Imo... The label is a bit dangerous; however, necessary in aiding it and fixing it, but i think theres too much focus on the problem and not the solution. The latter prob because of pharma and $$
I believe these all become problems when it detracts or interrupts from your life. So, yes, everybody experiences it, but not everybody develops general anxiety. Its a good bet that the latter experienced it more often; therefore was in a poor environment.
And again, the anxiety happens ---> leads to depression "omg why did i look so stupid in my speech, people are going to think im weird" [usually results in not wanting to make speeches anymore. And next time want to avoid it] ---> leads to poor self esteem "how did i let this affect me"
Edit: btw, the theory about it being so panicky is because humans travelled in groups, so being outcast puts you at a significant disadvantage in fighting animals and what not

It's like it is "what's in" at this time.
Note that the anxiety is not coming from working class people or the unemployed or people living in war zones, it's the prosperous peaceful middle class. In the absence of stresses, the brain creates its own.

Survival instincts are some of the strongest most ingrained behavioral traits in nature.
Modern society has removed the fight for survival.
With out real stress to compare it to the brain becomes hypersensitive to lesser stimuli.

People are just more open about their flaws and shortcoming because we're moving toward a more liberal society with more tolerance.
Anxiety has always existed. It's true that the increased social isolation of the modern world and social media influences have made it worse

Mental health isn't a joke. It's not about personal weakness. Thread's full on potato in it's ignorance.
Regarding anxiety, man DS, I am disappoint. Why not ask your two friends about it? Chits real, I can vouch. I was a skeptic in the past, but hell I've seen enough. Most these fukkers speaking out of ignorance. Society is fukked, it's not just here in the well off countries.

ITT, miscers probably come into contact with 50-100 people a day (all sources) where 1 or 2 people mention mental health and come to the conclusion that *everyone* has a bullchit mental disorder. Full on potatoes on display here.

There's a huge difference between being "anxious" and having an anxiety disorder. You guys won't truly understand until you've experienced depersonalization/derealization.

Actual anxiety sufferer here. I honestly think it is connected to mental illness. More people have anxiety because more people have mental illness or at least some symptoms.
My personal opinion is that it is a side effect of certain drugs. The body gets dependant on the pills used to regulate or help mental health and so without it or without the proper dosage, anxiety crops up.
Persons with anxiety may have been on or are on some mental health meds example those for ptsd, bipolar, borderline, depression etc.
