The sad thing is that the pills mask the symptoms, they don't actually help much. That's why sufferers always have to go back on meds.

But in some cases it could buy the brain some time to 'repair' a bit. Sometimes this actually works and persons no longer have to take meds for years. Most times it doesn't work out that way.

In my case I've been through immense trauma so mental illness of some was the obvious result especially considering that I already may have been predisposed to mental illness.

I know two people that actually have anxiety, and it impacts their day to day life. It is noticeable.

I swear if I hear a chick say "omg my anxiety" or post about it another time on instagram again, I'm gonna blow my top. This has to be one of the most annoying trends right now.

Or does more than half the population suddenly have this made up "anxiety."
victim mentality of the kids growing up now. All human's have anxiety it is what makes us human. There is only a very small percentage who have a actual genetic or chemical imbalance that induces anxiety for no reason, then you may have people with mental illness that cause illusions/delusions that can induce massive fear and anxiety. With that being said If you had no anxiety you would be a psychopath by clinical standards.

Anxiety is part of being human. Found this guy over 7-8 years ago and changed my life in regards to anxiety, fear, and being lost in thoughts of the past and fear of what has not come. This is the video that changed my life. Some other miscer had posted it a long time ago and I always share it in anxiety threads

I always live in the now and not in my mind of what if. Once you start doing this you will notice a big change and you will become more charismatic and happy. I must say it is hard to master if you been going through life thinking of what if , do they like me ? what if I fail, what if she says no, what if the group of people make fun of me, what if they make fun of my outfit, etc. Just gotta practice and master being in the moment.

It is very dangerous what they are doing now, giving a bunch of ppl drugs that blunt anxiety makes them less human.
I just want to share the knowledge I have obtained throughout my life and hopefully change someone's life.

I think most people refer to being uncomfortable as "anxiety."

I get panic attacks. Not often, but they can be pretty brutal. The worst of them have felt borderline like a heart attack. (That was only 1 or 2 times, probably.) Usually they more feel like I'm about to have a seizure or pass out. I basically gotta mentally talk myself down, and usually splashing some water on my face helps.

Most frequently I'll get these on like, a long drive, or when I've got a tight deadline, or when I'm a passenger and someone else is driving.

Well considering I've been raped 3 separate guys
Was in a 5 year verbally, sexually and emotionally abusive relationship
Bullied for months by a group of 5 popular kids who would encourage over 50 students to laugh at me, 2 months after my first rape
Was raped a week after burying my dad
Had attempted blackmail 3 times
Intentionally given and incurable std
Etc

I think it's remarkable I haven't gone completely off the deep end. If anxiety makes me seem like a snowflake then I'll take that over being completely bonkers.

That's pretty good. With some breathing techniques you might soon be able to no longer take them. My anxiety makes me want to faint when there is too much noise. It's a struggle to maintain a neutral face when I feel the panic happening. But for some reason I can seem unaffected but it drains me a lot.

Do you take meds for the anxiety?

I don't have a panic disorder, but I have had two of those attacks in my life and they left an impression. I still carry wallet sedatives everywhere to this day just in case.

Yeah, it's a bit unsettling to experience. I hope to eventually not have anxiety but I think for me it will take some time. I suspect something is bothering me and until I face it, the anxiety will continue.

idk about everyone else but I always had it but thought it was a normal way of being, then when I had a child it got amplified x100, I couldn't sleep, any sound would wake me, I'd always be paranoid of someone breaking in and stealing my child, would wake up 3-4 times to check if kid was breathing, always had rushing thoughts of "what if" my husband kept telling me it wasn't normal, cause I could barely leave the house with just me and the kid thinking the must fukked up chit would happen to us. Well, about three weeks ago after I said enough and walked two miles to town with my toddler to take him to the park I nearly had a nervous breakdown and that was it, made an appointment and told Doc about it, prescribed me some meds and its been like a flip switch. No more (or as many) rushing thoughts, can do all kinds of things without second guessing or being paranoid and can sleep through the night. Anyways, Dear diary.

Solid point that our biology can't keep up with our society and technology.

90% or better IMO. Say they "have anxiety" and mean "I'm nervous about this particular thing I am facing".

Have you tried any trauma therapy? Only recently discovered that was an issue for me. Not the same as drugs or normal talk therapy...involves the body more. Or visualization. Trying to find same for myself if I can just get past crisis mode.

Same here, it blew me away that other people's hearts didn't race 24/7. I'd meet controlling, awful people (in hindsight) but at the time feel a sense of relief wash over me. Finally, someone who cares so much about me that they won't lie! My anxieties are real! Iamugly, Iamstupid, Iamall of these things I'd always known, and I've found someone who loves and cares about me so much that they're willing to finally tell me the truth! Untreated anxiety is an awful way to live.

I'm glad you found something that worked for you, and I hope others read your post. For me, medication was awful, but CBT worked. I don't deal with that sort of anxiety hardly at all anymore, and it's like having my life back.

Happy you found a solution. I was the same way...post childbirth my anxiety went nuts and focused on my daughter. I'm sure worrying about your baby is pretty normal then if you have a predisposition + hormone hell = ugh!

Actually I agree with him, but first I need to clarify:

I think there is such a thing as situation appropriate anxiety (e.g. you spot a dodgy looking thug eyeing you up = anxiety), and there is perhaps anxiety that is brought on by severe trauma.

But neither of these types of anxiety is the kind of anxiety that Opie or this thread is referring to. The type of anxiety in question is a generalised, chronic anxiety that is affecting otherwise normal and healthy people, who have experienced little trauma nor face especially anxiety inducing situations on a daily basis.

For this type of anxiety, I believe the culprit isan excessive focus on one’s self. All the people I know who have this type of anxiety have one thing on common: their attention is largely directed inwards.
Conversely, all the people I know who aren’t anxiety riddled are very externally focused. They get wrapped up in their interests, hobbies and work, and they most certainly do not spend hours upon hours critiquing themselves.

Im glad you find that working for you, tbh I was scared to even reach out for help, thinking I was gonna be found unfit to be a parent cause of it. Also asked the doc for something non opiod based cause I dont want to be addicted to it. Id rather do CDB but alas SC would he the last state to legalize.

Oh man yes it is! Before him I'd have panic attacks maybe once every few months, then he came and they became like calendar events, like a monthly or biweekly thing, but to me it was normal and my Mom kept telling me I was just over thinking and it was a normal thing for a new Mom, so I was like this fukkin sucks but lets go. Turns out it wasn't normal, and that panic dissorder and anxiety are a very real thing I have, and that paranoia and rushing thoughts and the hyperventilating wasn't a regular Mom thing.

I am actually having several shrinks' diagnosis on me and they gave me anxiety and depression in February. I was never ''depressed'', ''suicidal'', ''angry'', ''scared'' in my life before this episode. In February someone who I love dearly got through some really bad chit, I love my brother dearly and it was the first situation of his life where I couldn't stand between him and the wall, he really had to fight with it.

I was miserable because it was the first time in my life when I couldn't do anything, continued with my daily life and had those episodes where I felt like someone is following me, I knew it was all in my head, who would follow me and for what. Went to a shrink and another one and a third one, they all said it is a depressive episode and anxiety, the ''following me'' part is my fear of danger. Fast forward to today, continued school, continued work, become even a more productive member of the society, lots of confidence and love towards myself.

Fighting with the warrior syndrome and with the books recommended from my last and best shrink, improved a lot. Got packs full of anxiety pills that she told me to get in quarters when I am afraid. Have them stacked to this day, you can never beat this if you don't fight with it. I took the pills that establish the hormonal balance, serotonin levels, but with the anxiety it is a constant fight, never went to pills.

I don't have phone anxiety, presentations anxiety, anything anxiety currently and I remember how bad I felt when diagnosed: t e r r i b l e, I knew the losers who diagnosed themselves and made a bad reputation for the people who suffer.

yes and that's why it's called an anxiety disorder this thread is absolute garbage people are sharing their stories in this last page now so they are all complaining and moaning right?

nope it's real and just because he can't relate doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

It really does blow my mind that this triggers you so much. It's not a bad thing that people are talking about their anxiety. What is detrimental is when people use it as an excuse for non-action. I've been diagnosed with anxiety and it sucks, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. But I didn't just wallow in it, I went to therapy, applied what I learned in therapy to every situation and put the work in, and now I can manage and deal far better than I ever could. But by all means, blow your lid on a woman talking about their anxiety on social media. Smh

Its suddenly cool to be a genetically inferior person. "Muh PTSD". "Meh anxiety." "Muh depressions." Etc.

Most of these people are just stupid and think its trendy. Someone that legitimately has one of the above ^ is crippled by it. And in my experience 99% of the people that say they have one of those, does not. They are just a loser.

A small percentage of miscers might legitimately have some of these disorders but most people on social media have never been diagnosed and aren't being treated for anything.

The world is so fukked up is why. Women aren't having children but they're doing men's jobs, and so men aren't doing the jobs they want and beta men aren't getting women by being providers like they have for the last few thousand years. Then you have all the hormones in the water, food, and drugs which are fukking everything up even harder.

exactly. this afflicts white folks the most because they want to be special by pretending they have problems too. Focus outside yourself and problems melt away.

I'm weary of the trauma therapy thing. I don't want it to backfire.

I have a thought. What if it's not the anxiety that is a problem but the thoughts behind it? I mean if you compare anxiety to adrenaline it's remarkably similar. Yet adrenaline boosts do not cause alarm e.g. when watching an action film or partying.

What if anxiety is just feeling rushes of adrenaline without an obvious trigger? Then the brain not seeing a visible trigger, tries to figure out through amplifying the senses what the trigger is.

If that's the case then the brain can be retrained to ignore surges of adrenaline.

As for the trigger, it is a possible subconscious phrase. For me, mine is “I do not want to feel helpless. I want to be in control".

Or “am I normal?"

Perhaps dealing with these phrases will help in my case.

back in the day that didn't happen. back in the day you could quietly ship off your wife and/or kids into a ward, treat them, and no one had to know about it
