1. Well we can actually make some effort and hire some of the best writers in the world, and best teams who would go back and forth with the scripts to make an amazing story that would span and develop over 3 movies. Making each a satisfying movie on its own yet have viewers excited for the next
OR
2. We could use nostalgia, bring back our old heroes from the OG and use them as mere props to be used and then disposed of to get people to like our new characters. That way we don't need much effort and can save a ton of money, pump out generic movies every year and make so much more money!!
It's fuking amazing to me these aszholes didn't really understand how badly the fans turned on their God George Lucas himself for mediocre generic movies. And Star Wars was in a desperate need for a major overhaul and upgrade. Something along the lines of what Nolan did to Batman except maybe a less gritty and a little charm and humor. They knew how crazy SW fans have been for YEARS and had so much time to put together something decent. But took the short way out and ended up paying the price. How the fuk did a company worth billions didn't see this coming? How are they so disconnected from the real world?
Imagine how epic toy sales and the star wars theme park would have been now if they had made these movies great. Imagine how much more money they'd have and how stoked people would be for the final movie in the trilogy. They would be breaking all kinds of records.
Does anyone think that in years from now, Star Wars could release a new movie for the next generation and anyone would care if they announced they were bringing back Rey or Poe or Finn for a cameo? After this movie, those names would be completely forgotten.

Marvel knocked it out of the park. They'll remember Tony Stark's sacrifice not Han Solo's death.
I'm extremely pissed about Finn, he could have been a really compelling character.
Also pissed me off that they shat on Poe in Last Jedi, for no reason.

Wow. That doesn't even qualify for basic bitch writing 101, that really is throwing sh*t at a fan and observing which particulates happen to stick to a dartboard full of half dumb ideas, half tropes ripped off from other movies or Star Wars itself. If TFA wasn't masturbatory enough, this is a Siamese circlejerk in full swing.
Personality crisis perfectly sums up Kyle; you almost expect him to come out identifying as a twelve year old girl.
Finn is a tragedy of botched potential and characterization with who alone has so many forehead-slappingly obvious inconsistencies.
Why/howis Finn theonly soldierto be too chickensh*t to fire off a round and nearly faint at the sight of blood? Is he the squad intern or something? How did he pass basic training, let alone get put alongside the first wave
Yet Finn also has insane amounts of easy (plot convenient) access to rescue a high security prisoner while going AWOL. Speaking of chickensh*t, what kind of operation is this "First Order" running if they can let that kind of Spaceballs wackiness ensue? How in the hell are they a galactic superpower?
But why would Finn turnagainstthe First Order if the supposed "reason" was witnessing a comrade die by being shot by theresistance?!?That makes zero goddamn sense. Are you telling me that if somebody kicked Finn's dog, he would run around kickingother people's dogs?
Most importantly, though, when Finn's time to shine comes about - again thanks to his absurd access toeverythingin the First Order that the plot demanded, sike! He wasreallyjust, like, the space janitor there and wanted to tag along with Han.WHAT?!Did we not already establish that he was a soldier and apparently was qualified to be in a critical mission vanguard? How did he do everything, get to where hewas, when he was basically the water boy?
Oh, and that "reveal" was all for a lame joke, but Finn was the true butt of that joke in the overall narative sense because he went from a character brimming with potential to be knocked back down to such an impotent twat that his role with the First Order was something aSpace Roombacould do, but they had him do it just because he wasthatsh*t. That only reinforces the looming questions of how in the fresh hell he wound up in the frontline, got sand in his vagina, and rescued Poe. Wouldn't they have kept him on the ship to keep the seats warm or cook everyone pancakes?
With your example, we could have seen someone who has had to first have a legitimate reason to break from a former allegiance and gain the trust of new allies, all while trying to adjust himself mentally and emotionally to these drastic shifts.
But nope, bugger that - we need Finn to realize the errors of his ways in a good five minutes so that we can jump right into the buddy comedy and have him team up with the good guys who have zero qualms with taking in an expat of their sworn foe.

Star Wars Fans:

- Tone down Kyle killing natives because "Disney," and I'm sure before reading down they're planning some sort of redemption bollocks because "Disney." And also total lack of originality since they're just cribbing off of Anakin if that's the case.
- Why in the hell is there some random segue with Finn worrying over the Empire"Kidnapping children!!!"in order to staff such a big fleet? Like... can't they justclonepeople if they were really in such high demand? Sounds like a shoehorned in moral side plot in the vein of that weird rich, interstellar casino/zoo thing I hear was in TLJ.
- Who is this Maz Katana or whatever-its-name? I mean, Iknowit was that weird, CGI abomination (side note: the actress who did the mo cap was genuinely pretty, so they reallydoseem intent on draining all of the attractiveness out of the women in this new trilogy), but we never got an actual explanation as to who the crikey-fukk this bug eyed alien is, how she got Luke's lightsaber, or how Luke wound up in bum-fukk nowhere to lose a weapon deadlier than it is practical? Did he get drunk on blue milk and crash there or something? What's the story there?
- Luke left clues within the jedi texts to the coordinates of... 'the hell is this,NationalGalactic Treasure? We're doing a treasure hunt now? Is Blue's Clues going to show up, too?
- Oh god... You gotta bring Lando into this? Billy Dee Williams-Lando, no less? Apparently nothing is sacred and no one is safe from Disney's tendrils.
- Turn children of "Rebellion heroes" into Stormtroopers... asrevenge? That is, without a doubt, the stupidest, pettiest fukking thing I have ever read for a fictional military that is already dumb enough to dress their soldiers in stark white in the middle of a forest.
- C3PO isforbidden by his programmingto tell everyone what the important, secret message says? Are you taking the piss? That is straight up artificial conflict for the sake of having no other explanation. Cripes, I knew C3PO was the worst, but this sells it.
- So Hux was a mole the whole time? Does that explain why he was such afukkin' bitch? But also, does that not seem kind of ironic? Like, if we take the "good" side as the woke, SJW brigade, then the most Hitler-wannabe, facist kunt in the universe was really one ofthemthe entire time? Wow, for the first time I'd say that actually sounds about right.
-Howis Leia in this... at all? Carrie Fisher passed away - oh god. Are they gonna creepy CGI her into this, too?
- I actually lost track at this point on what the plot is because it sounds a lot like "find the MacGuffin, find the next MacGuffin, Find Mr/Ms. MacGuffin," which is bloody stupid. This would be like if you made a direct translation of Mario 64 into a movie, following him findevery damn staralong the way.
- All of these names sound like spellcheck had a stroke. In fact, a good portion of those terms sound like they misspelled foreign words and told autocorrect to piss off.
- Okay, read it all. Totally called that redemption "twist," the bloody plebs.

"After retrieving C-3PO’s old memory unit, the Resistance forces have to unlock it using a decommissioned droid factory unit. However, they mistakenly upload the wrong memory unit into C-3PO. This new memory unit is that of a combat droid. He goes on to adopt an aggressive persona and even steals Chewbacca’s bowcaster."
Who knew that a plot point could make you feel dumber after reading it.
How long is this movie supposed to be to fit in all of these hijinks, anyway? Are they going to do a Scooby Doo hallway chase with the Knights of Ren, too?
Having only seen things like the Mauler TLJ video, have a fraction of the MacGuffins and randos showing up in these leaks ever been mentioned before? I swear, you'd need to have a wiki open to follow just the leaks, so I can only imagine what a mess the film will be throwing world salads at the audience left and right.
they seriously should have gone with a knights of ren plot at least it would have been badass

But seriously, theyarein the leaks, but it really just looks like they're in there for the sake of beingsomewhatrecognizable yet different antagonists. They could be swapped out for talking sandwiches and there wouldn't be any significant change to the "canon" as it were.
They'll probably just be thesuperspecial secret guards upgraded from the disappearing knife guys:

They even had the opportunitiesto expand upon their new take on Star Wars with side movies, but those also took the (2) approach.
Rogue One appears to be the best received Disney SW film, but it banksentirelyupon nostalgia given how the entire plot is predicated upon A New Hope, and Solo is perhaps their most desperate, sorry attempt to cash in on just thename.
This is pretty much the norm with all of these rehashes/reboots/sequels as of late in that it's not enough to prey entirely on nostaliga, but to outright desiccate a corpse after beating it over our heads.
How these movies will be looked upon in years to come will be interesting, but even now I would imagine that little kids would be stuck choosing between Emo Vader or a regular, ol' Stormtrooper because "why would any kid want to be Poe or Finn?" Some Han/Luke wannabe amalgamation who gotma'am'dby a pink haired SJW even when he was right? Or theothersecond banana who is never allowed to do anything competent fortoolong until he has to be the comic relief? After all, it's Rey's (and sometimes Kyle's) spotlight, not either of those bell ends.
Stormtroopers might be faceless footsoldiers, yet they wouldn't be mistaken for Wal-Mart brand, Star Wars knockoffs.
Regardless of the damage done by the prequels, how Disney managed to butcher the property is right there: Star Wars is nowDisney. That means nothing risky, nothing remotely boundary pushing, and nothing out of their cookie cutter, design-by-committee approach. It is telling enough when we can't even get a Star Wars game featuring lightsabers with dismemberment because The Mouse disapproves, and the entire future of the franchise will be Disney throwing money at vapidity, relying on the least discriminating audiences to be their financial bulwark (children and man-children, essentially).

We aren't even given asecondto show why we should care about Finn caring about some red shirt being wasted, which is somehow enough to be the driving force behind his desertion in the first place.
Are we supposed to believe that this super elite military never bothers to psychologically screen trainees for potential, I dunno, pacifists or defectors? How could the weaponize an entire planet when apparently their application process is to check a box for "join, yes or no."

Some Han/Luke wannabe amalgamation who gotma'am'dby a pink haired SJW even when he was right?
Let's not forget that even though he was so traumatized by seeing his buddy die that he goes AWOL, five minutes later he has no qualms jumping in a tie fighter (which are apparently now 2 seaters in this scene for reasons) and gleefully gun down dozens of his comrades in order to free the guy who killed his friend in the first place
His character was doomed from the start
That's what I mean! What was wrong with them when writing this out? We aren't even given asecondto show why we should care about Finn caring about some red shirt being wasted, which is somehow enough to be the driving force behind his desertion in the first place.
Are we supposed to believe that this super elite military never bothers to psychologically screen trainees for potential, I dunno, pacifists or defectors? How could the weaponize an entire planet when apparently their application process is to check a box for "join, yes or no."

The logical closure point was clearly the prequel series. Everything since has just been contrived rubbish, unnecessary extension and rape and chitting on of the original characters

LOL @ anyone even comparing the prequels to the new trilogy trash.
The darth maul fight and duel of fates is probably one of the top 3 scenes (if you consider it one) out of all the films and single handedly makes the prequels amazing.
Brb, that nut when the 2nd side of the lightsaber comes
brb, that perfectly timed note to sync up with duel of fates
So good on so many levels.
No one posted the GOAT cinematics from the Knights of the Old Republic game in 9 pages? Legit would rather watch these on repeat than ever pay a cent to watch the awful Disney garbage
So GOOD and makes me more hyped in 4-7 minute clips than all the 5 new garbage movies combined.

The only thing that comes close is Vader in Rogue One, and Rogue One had the 2nd best space battle in all of Star Wars

Marvel knocked it out of the park. They'll remember Tony Stark's sacrifice not Han Solo's death.
I'm extremely pissed about Finn, he could have been a really compelling character.
Also pissed me off that they shat on Poe in Last Jedi, for no reason.

OR

The Force Awakens has made over $2B.... making it the highest grossing Star Wars film of all time....
The Last Jedi has made over $1.3B.... making it the SECOND highest grossing Star Wars film of all time...
These plebs will STILL keep coming out and lining up for these dogchit movies no matter how bad they are. Hollywood knows this... so why would they actually care about putting out a compelling, well crafted story? As long as they can fill their movies with their SJW/PC claptrap and people keep paying for it, they'll keep patting themselves on the back and cashing those cheques.

Brb merch/toy sales through the floor
Brb Galaxy’s Edge a ghost town a month after opening
They thought Star Wars was too big to fail so they ended up jamming a chit ton of liberal propaganda into it but now they’re realizing it was a mistake.
