The word cult has negative connotations so It's understandable as to why it's being argued against. I think when most people think of cults they think something sinister, I could be wrong. imo It's a stretch to call bb a cult, but as you described, it's just a forum with its own culture.
Yours Sincerely

The word "cult" in its current use is derogatory and brings to mind Jim Jones, Charles Manson, etc. Unthinking, automatic submission. "Culture," however brings to mind the unique aspects of a certain group of people. Would you describe Chicano culture, the metal head culture, or the French culture as unthinking brainwashed masses? We've assigned words that have a similar root meaning but bring to mind a different idea. We've definitely got a culture here, but this ain't a cult.

The only time having a cult following is a great thing is when you are actually in a cult. Then you get to be a cult leader and life is milk and honey. First off, everyone thinks you are god so you get to tell them all what to do.

Your followers bow down before you and give you all their worldly goods. The best part is you get to lie down with all the ladies from the cult, even the married ones. In a short matter of time you become drunk with power and begin to lie down with the men also, not because you want to, just because you can.

Just like the lazy use of labels such as homophobic, racist, sexist, etc many accuse others of now days. Label a whole group of people you don't agre with something horrible then you automatically have the higher moral ground.

^^ that's like 11(maybe more) videos doing in-depths rebuttals of Vox, demonstrating a consistent pattern of at best, rank amateur journalism with negligible research. And that's being EXTREMELY generous considering its 99% certain they know thast their info is wrong and post it anyway.

So yeah, my comment is harsh, but there's really only three options for someone who starts saying that Vox is great and anyone who doesn't like them is just politically biased.

ignorance, stupidity, and dishonesty.

So let me apologize and give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you fell into category #1.

However, that's not really an option anymore. Please educate yourself, even if you dislike Crowder, he provides a lot of sources for his claims, and you can check them all.

Considering that Reddit and 4chan also got listed, I am totally okay with BB.com being declared a "cult."

And though the term is used loosely, I totally understand.

After all, the misc is one of those places that most people I know have never even heard of. You can't mention it to most people and expect that they know what it is off the bat, you'll have to clarify.

I feel like in some ways BB.com is a mid-level depth bastion to what older days of the internet had once been.

But it's slowly eroding.

The rep/neg system is the main issue. Every website that has this will eventually become an echo chamber.

It is the sort of reason why the incel/fa trash posters on this forum banded together to cry and have mods stop merging their threads: their primary reason for being on this forum is to spread misanthropy - actually, and misandry, and to spread and reinforce their negative way of perceiving the world.

It may be lost on some people but this is forum.bodybuilding.com not the "Hello Kitty Island Adventure" forum - so it baffles me that people who have never lifted a weight in their lives are so eager to come here to say 'guys it is so hard to meet people' 'guys if you're white you should go to Asia if you can't get laid in the U.S' 'guys if you marry a woman ur gonna get cucked' and so on. There is no meaningful contribution to agenda-driven posts like those. They are chit posting trolling at best, and deliberate agenda driven posting at worst.

There is no 'cult' here. Go figure that guys into weightlifting and athletics like to talk about getting laid, and as they earn more money in life - about spending money. Just...wow.

There is a quasi "cult" around Zyzz. There IS an echo chamber. It may not be a cult, but I think the echo chamber phenomenon is what people actually are trying to get at.

Misc is like a different universe all on it's own. We are a tight knitted family on a website that not many "normal" people know about. It's almost like nxvium except we dont do any human trafficking and this sub forum of bb.com is a secret place like how for so many years nxvium was kept under wraps.

Misc is a cult? Well I'm proud of it!

Truthfully, once I received over 10K reps, I noticed how infrequently I would get negged. Now I rarely get negged.

I think that because of the rep system there is certainly a potential for this to become an echo chamber.

But I also find that I rarely echo the sentiments of the misc, and I still do not get negged. I feel like once you reach a certain amount of reps, you're not going to go red again. It evens out because the dopamine people tend to get from seeing green in their CP can tend to cause them resort to groupthink.

But it should really have led to the formation of one's ability to speak freely without feeling worried about what others think.

being green or red doesn't really matter here anymore

it used to back when ppl never replied to reds on principle, but nobody cares anymore

I think misc is a lot more free than reddit even if it is still somewhat politically biased. Reddit straight up hides your comment if it is downvoted enough.

The only reason I stick around is because the misc really isn't that bad aside from a handful of dumb ideas that get thrown around from time to time.

For the most part, the misc is a brotherhood of humans who would like to see each other improve. There's a lot of good that is done here.

You're right, being red or green literally does not mean chit. But there are still a handful of people I neg out of principle.

The only purpose of Netflix at this point is to shape public discourse. Netflix and other powers that be in the MSM have simply deemed bodybuilding.com and similar online free speech havens to empower "wrongthink." If an online platform leans more right than left, you can be sure it'll eventually be branded a "cult" "online trolls" "right wing propaganda" (realize that no one in the MSM calls anything "left wing propaganda") "alt-right" "white supremacist" or "white nationalist."

All they're trying to do is suppress non-liberal thought by tarnishing the image of anything right of center and cherry picking the worst examples of anything Conservative to paint the entire Conservative half of this country in the same stroke.

Everything we see from big tech including Netflix, Google, ********, ect... is carefully curated through algorithms to shape opinion and can just be simply described as propaganda though an artificial overload of one particular point of view while simultaneously suppressing and slandering the opposing point of view.

if a 1 sentence quip is dedication and commitment to you then smh

i just call out poverty threads and frauds and will continue to do so, not just to you but to everyone
also if anyone needs help its the guy who comes on an online forum and pretended to be another man, then when caught, deletes the thread and changes his avi so noone will know 🙄

but back on track

i think some of you guys are forgetting and maybe what pogue is trying to get at?

but this is bodybuilding.com not 4chan or reddit that derides itself on the ability for users to post whatever they want. In this political climate the minute bb.com gets actual negative press not some one off journalist they wont hesitate to shut this place down. and with the increase of incel and 4chan-lite like users/posts that only makes us look worst in the eyes of anyone else that comes here. These media outlets go out looking for anyone to attack and those types of posts make somewhere a easy target for them.

the misc was always weird but it never mixed in with this incel/4chan chit like it does now. there are still many good users but its easy to spot out the ones that have no intention of bettering themselves and are just here to troll, and those r the ones that need to be purged
