This is actually a perfectly realistic reason if you see a very attractive guy with a very unattractive woman at a work social event (same thing with genders switched around).

Just from personal observation of the few scenarios i know, the guy is usually one of those "nice guys" that was never good with women and is happy just having any girl give him that type of attention.
