Cool. So Kimura, Americana, Straight Armlock and the Toe Hold are all the same move? Cos they are all "double wrist locks".

Americana is even named in honor of a wrestler, Bob Anderson. So there.

It's Kimura.

He did not lift.

He threw people for fun. Then went down there on the ground to make sure the job worked.

Edit: He and Kano and Mizuno...all pacifist.

They hated the fascists.

Americana used to be called keylock, but it's been recognized as separate from kimura since at least the 1970s. Their hand is pointing in the completely opposite direction. We learned this in like our third fundamentals lesson at Marcelo's.

While we're all arguing about BJJ in here, y'all experts want to critique my tournament videos?

In the gi, I had three rounds because one of the women I was supposed to face didn't show up. Usually, a 12-woman bracket would mean 4 rounds, EL1, QF, SF, and F, but I skipped the quarterfinal round.

Nogi I also had three rounds, first round, semifinal, and final. I faced the same woman in both finals! Tough lady. With more experience, though, I could have done better. I was a lot stronger and had better cardio. She had better technique.

First match is in two parts

You're not grip fighting and there's no throw. Make them regret touching you.

Then finish them off.

Under hook and bicep grab and flip her.

Develop this skill, you're never going to have a fear. Problem?

Throw them onto a fire hydrant.

My standup game is terrible and I need to work on it a lot. Especially because I'm pretty strong. I could make the excuse that we don't train from standing much but really I just need to drill standup more on my own. I'm also pushing for them to bring back the wrestling class we used to have with Hudson Taylor.

Watching those bjj vids with a wrestling background its so strange watching people trying to pull guard. You do look stronger than your competition and did a good job of controlling the action from top position I'm no bjj expert though.

In wrestling there are two main body types with different strategies. You have lanky sprawlers and stocky, merciless bulldogs. If you don't have the limb length to get a competitive advantage your best bet is to apply constant pressure and wait for them to wear down, make a mistake and then punish them

Edit: Are you not allowed to touch the head? If you are instead of pushing their hands down push down on top of their head. This will wear them down quicker

You're allowed to touch the head--not the face, though. Totally correct that I should use head control more, I'll work on it. I think I'm in the stocky bulldog category, though it's annoying because my build is kind of dead in the middle average, or so it seems to me. But I prefer the pressure techniques. I need to work a lot on my takedowns. I have a decent single in the gym but in competition I am paralyzed because I fear being guillotined--not a concern in wrestling.

She was taller, but not stronger, and my coach even said that she gassed out in the gi finals so my strategy should be to push the pace as my cardio was better. Her better technique just gives that impression that she overpowered me (which is really cool actually). I also think I was intimidated by her. She's quite a bit younger than I am and a seasoned competitor.

It's not emphasized because they assume you already got your ass kicked. Totally legitimate idea and they're wizards.

But you don't have to lay down.

You can make people work, and cry. Land them on the ground with no defenses or willpower. Better than boxing. Punch with physics.

Omg mother Earth just punched me!

I guess I'm done here.

I dunno about that, her defense to your kimura was to just straighten her arm lol. I only quickly skipped trough the video though, I'll take a closer look after I come home from the gym.

True true. My coaches did say afterwards that I didn't use my hips enough to create a better angle for that kimura too. I'll take the being overpowered excuse though! Back to lifting. Enjoy the gym, friend.

ETA: thank you all so much for taking the time to comment!
I noticed one more thing after I wrote that comment. At one point in the vid a blond chick had you in a single and you made the correct counter with the crossface but you need to put some authority behind it in the future. Make them remember that chit. Do any of the women in your division have the upper body strength to tap you from a half guard guillotine? If not, just remember to be relentless and keep outside leverage.

You lack a certain amount of aggression out there. You seem to have a cardio and strength advantage on everyone so use it! Keep the pressure up and use aggressive tactics
