What makes it great?

Be curious for you to tell me what makes it better than seated barbell, dumbbell or even a well designed machine press for shoulder development?

If you're using leg drive it's not a OHP, it's a push press, anyone that does that and state it's the former is a retard. And having some back bend is okay...even with that most of y'all ain't gonna be able to press 200lbs

there's a reason OHP is in strong man competitions

anyway standing OHP is more of a compound exercise than seated OHP

Honestly I have been doing it to generally increase strength in the upper body and shoulders. I'll give this one a go sometime in the next few weeks as well once I finish this general program.
if you need someone to chat with, don't hesitate to shoot me a PM.

This is coming from someone who has better/stronger shoulders than anyone else I've seen post so far ITT. LMAO at the "but it's an alpha lift" argument. No.

Das it man!! If more people used their brain instead of their emotions for exercise selection they'd be much better off.

But no, brb barbell back squats are the BEST way to grow quads even tho quads are hardly ever the first thing to fail in a barbell squat. Nah bruh

Bro I do both, OHP is still a great staple exercise. I do OHP one day and db press the other. I do care about strength as well as gains. I like my compound movements

Srs question
Depends on your goals?

Bodybuilding? Tons of DB raises from every angle, cables for raises, reverse cable flies, reverse db flies, if your gym has a selection of shoulder press machines some of those can be great, DB shoulder presses, barbell/plate front raises. I could go on but all of those will allow you to really hit the shoulders with a lot more hypertrophy than standing BB OHP.

If your goal is a big total for PL, you don't need standing OHP so why do it?

Ouch. If your goal is big shoulders then you're approaching it the wrong way by thinking standing OHP for a set of 5 is going to get you there.

I think back squats are the best exercise, period. You seem to avoid anything that demands a strong core from you.

Shoulders are so easy man:

A1. Press (obviously I recommend something seated) 1-2 sets 6-10

B1. Laterals (DB laterals are a pretty poopy exercise in terms of efficiency)
Lying cuff laterals, machine laterals or just single arm cable laterals are all better options
2-3 sets 8-20+, drop sets work great here as delts respond well to the extra density of reps

C1. Pec Dec or cable rear delt fly, or rear delt row/pulldown

2-3 sets 8-12

You don't need to go there bud, just keep the thread for what you made it for; you honestly have nothing to prove mate. Back to the topic though, my push day for shoulders usually just consists of weighted shoulder dips, followed by incline-supported dumbbell lateral raise and OHP. Now my genetics for my shoulders has been pretty sweet so it's been going hella good, also incline supported facepulls as well but that's on a pull day. I did however see one bloke doing this exact exercise and I was wondering what he was doing, he was literally doing about 100kg but I think the safety bar was abit more higher then yours actually is so he had less range of motion on the actual exercise.

All I'm trying to do right now is to just build strength on my upper body and shoulders as previously stated by also get that boulder, wide look. Pretty much doing PPL of x3 strength/x3 hypertrophy. If you got any and all advice to further my advancement, I'm all keen on listening. Also on hypertrophy training days, I'm mostly using a very slow concentration during the range of motion just to further add more tension into the delts.
if you need someone to chat with, don't hesitate to shoot me a PM.

Nah that's cool dude, I have seen your shoulder genetics lmao, I know it plays a huge part but obviously general exercises on how you target the delts also is a huge factor. I am pretty much doing my own thing at the moment but everyone shoulder always learn to progress and that's what I'm always open for. Trial and error for the most part but critically progressing.

Because I wasn't strong enough to hit 6, yet lol. Literally the first time barbell pressing for delts in a long time. Once I get into the groove of these they should progress pretty well. If I can't bodyweight x 10 in a few weeks you can call me a *******

I don't think it's genetics at all. The only thing that changed between these two pics two years apart is a started following smart people and using my brain
