The sad thing about all this is that I still see potential for a spark to a return to some glory amongst the ashes of what this place used to be and how unique and cool it was.

There’s still multiple thousands lurking from time to time keeping tabs if this place is interesting again.

Like all of these kind of threads theres the problem of a vocal minority of normies and people who don’t represent the true classic misc who are saying stuff that’s not true and it’s always hard to tell what is what and what is actually good for the “nightclub” and who the bouncers should keep out.

Like in the real world there is a political undercurrent of normies and cucks who outnumber the cool people that make this place cool (people who lift and aren’t sensitive beta normies like on reddit) and to first fix the issues you have to realize there’s a war on here and you have to decide which side you want to encourage.

If you want misc to grow again you have to ignore and suppress the normies who are looking to turn this place into yet another normie website like any others on the net and the people who are cool will never come back and this place turns into a boring graveyard and even the normies will get bored of themselves.

So the Admin needs to be more transparent about that. Is he a normie? Does he care about increasing traffic for real? Or is this some transition to just kill it off as it used to be?

I think it would be fair to let us know who’s side they are on.

The other thing is the strictness of the rules should be based on the bare minimum that will not get us in trouble with some outside sources and besides that we should be very lax and even more so with Mod interpretations of things.

When we first expanded the misc there’s was hardly any rules and it was like a barbershop you can say all kinds of interesting thoughts, that was the meat and potatoes of what made this place blow up. Then over time we started to get too big in the hundreds of thousands of views per day and it was so influential that outside sources like the trials and the news brought us too much attention. So likewise we slowed toned down the intensity with rules to stay off radar.

But now since a few years ago, we are no longer a huge presence and in equal measure we should lax the rules to match the downward trajectory of participation. The less intense the public popularity the more we can get away with less rules and be more of a speakeasy again.

The strictness of the rules should directly match the most we are probably safe with as far as outside influence and work downstream from that.

If the lurkers even get a whiff of fascism they will not come back. If people still see mods banning for jokes they will not come back.

If they see the same 12 normies commenting in every thread saying lame things and spamming garbage they won’t post in that thread.

People like Fuqdatass, Sword, RedRusty, Red Raider, Djranga and a bunch of people from that normie gang and a handful of other cancer posters are a huge reason people get chased away and don’t post. They secretly hate those type of people who try to make this place be something it’s not.

So before we can fix the problems we gotta decide who side the admin is on. We gotta get rid of MORE mods and we have to encourage a return to freedom of speech and freedom of high testosterone.

If we naturally let people be cool they will overrun the normies but the way thing are now, the leftists mods who want this place to transform into failure pretty much censor the cool people and only post/support in normie threads.

So they are handcuffing coolness itself because they aren’t cool.

That’s an actual real phenomenon happening here and before we can make gains we have to decide what we want and which side to listen to because we are not all on the same side and if you’re not in the know here it’s hard to tell who the bad guys are.

They pretend they are normal.

As far as reps, I think it’s fine to nerf a few, or even a reset, the numbers themselves don’t matter. Again to explain how people see this place, it’s a place of test driving ideas. The fact that things that don’t resonate with people fall to the second page is key information.

If one has an idea, they can’t tell on their own if it’s funny or interesting until they share it with a friend or two and see how they react. That’s what this place simulates in a large scale.

You have an idea, you throw it against the misc wall and see if it sticks. If it’s good or controversial you get lots of views and comments, and if it really resonates with someone they rep you. If it’s super annoying they neg you. And if it’s just a weird thought only you had it drops to second page with no participation; which is fine, that’s information.

So as long as that rep/neg gives you a barometer of what people think then it’s fulfilled it’s purpose, it doesn’t actually matter what the number ammount was. And if someone is abusing it on new ppl sure, nerf the number ammount.

This is also why I don’t rep back or random rep very often because I try to make it be about someone saying something that resonated with me. I usually only rep poignant comments.

I don’t usually care the rep ammount as much as the nod from the person and what their personal comment about it was.

I wasn't around for the good old days obviously, but I like the rep system as is. As many others have said, yeah you get a few high rep posters that suck, but the majority of solid rep counts belong to quality posters, and most of the folks that go red and stay red from the jump are chit tier.
