Ended up deciding on the Valor Commander Limited Edition.

It was the last model Valor still available new anywhere. It also has a bull barrel, which is unique to any other DW model.

Went traditional .45 bc I don't expect to shoot it much. Want this to be a "I'm gonna go put a box through and feel special about it" gun.

I have a 300 blk pistol and it shoots basically the same recoil as my 5.56 16 inch upperat home defense ranges (so like inside of 15 yards). Idk why you wouldn't get a 300blk ar15 for a home defense gun. The manual of arms is the same as any other ar15, recoil is basically the same, so there's no need to train with shooting 300blk. Just train with shooting 5.56. I've put about 300-400 rounds through my 300blk pistol to function test it, various loads used. Then I have about 300 rounds of 300blk on hand

eta:

farley,

a few pages back you compared uspsa to multi ply power lifting, that's not entirely true. It would only be a true comparison for "Open" division, but not all divisions are the same in USPSA.

What's the difference between Production division, or even Carry Optics, and "duty gear"? Not a lot, mostly just the holster setup. My carry optics gun is the same as my "duty" edc. The only difference from the majority of people's production guns and a duty gun is the holster you use. So then... what's the difference between AIWB and OWB level 1 holster draw times? Like .25 - .50 seconds?

What is the over penetration probability with 300 vs 556?

I trust 556 to not kill anyone in the next room as long as I don't miss the fleshy thing I'm aiming at.

Yeah that's probably true, idk for sure though, but it's likely it would as 300blk ballistics are very similar to 7.62x39. 300blk is (probably) going to be going through interior and exterior walls easier, probably through bodies too. That's a good reason to go with 5.56 over 300blk for home defense.

I was at a LGS picking up some undisclosed amount of undisclosed items (lol) that I purchased from black friday.

There was a dude there picking this up, he said I could take pics. He said he won it from online auction, says he likes to collect weird shiit. It's an m1a1 bullpup. Allegedly, according to the guy that won it, Israeli special forces used these? Idk lmao thing looks like some bubba desecrated a m1a1. I dry fired it and that trigger was actually amazing for a bullpup, very very surprising.

This is why I think 5.56 is the perfect home defense round. It has an amazing amount of kinetic energy, but a 55g bullet isn't going to have much left after it passes through a human. A bullet weighing 2-4x that much is going to still be going through other things. I don't want to worry about it what is behind the thing i'm shooting. If I miss the entire target everything will be a major problem. But if you're missing at 3-7 yards with an AR, I don't think Ammo selection will save you.

Reloading is the best thing ever.

Can load up a bunch of 124g bullets with 3.6g of powder and it shoots like a .22 or I can load up with 4.2g and make it feel like a defensive round.

The main thing there would be comparing actual literal competitors to everybody-else, so take a "raw" powerlifting competition and use people who place in that to compare to regular guys who go to the gym. Applying the test that was given to everybody that carries as a sort of standard would be like taking a powerlifting competition filled with sponsored athletes/professionals and having all of your local gym rats judged by whether or not they could qualify for some big national event.

That's a standard that professionals on the level of air marshals mostly failed. It's not and never was a good test or standard for the masses.

IDK how much of a difference those holsters would be but it's not uncommon for competition to disallow carry ahead of the hip so it's clearly some kind of difference, eh? A 'level 1' holster isn't likely to qualify as a duty (or legit open carry...IMO) holster either, needs more retention. Level 1 would be like a serpa or a stand-alone ALS but those should probably still be concealed generally in public (or not worn at all in the case of the serpa)

The first person to have his guns confiscated under Florida’s 2018 “red flag” law has been found guilty over his refusal to voluntarily surrender the weapons.

Jerron Smith, 33, now faces up to five years in prison after a jury in Broward County rejected his argument that he did not fully understand the new law. The jury returned the verdict Friday after a short trial.

Smith, of Deerfield Beach, was the subject of a risk protection order soon after the law was enacted in response to the Parkland high school mass shooting in February 2018.

Smith owned an AR-15 rifle and a .22-caliber rifle which Broward deputies seized after his arrest in March 2018 on charges of firing six shots at a vehicle being driven by his best friend, according to reports.
I don't get it... Maybe I am just not understanding the whole thing. I am against red flag laws, but how is this a red flag law thing? Dude shot at a vehicle (driven by his best friend no less) a year and a half ago. That doesn't sound like red flag law (i.e. someone called saying you're not safe) that sounds like he actually did something criminal. Who knows... didn't read the whole thing, so I'm probably missing something.

Also, lol at it being Broward County. Their police have learned from Parkland. You don't have to actually engage an active shooter if you just take everyone's guns ahead of time.

If anyone is looking at a new 22lr handgun, I'd highly recommend checking out one of these. Light weight, adjustable rear sight for both elevation and windage, ergonomics are amazing, and the trigger is seriously on the level of a PPQ. Not to mention two 16 round mags and comes with a threaded barrel adapter to run suppressed. Doubt I'd ever buy a Taurus centerfire anything, but they knocked it out of the park with this 22lr.
