Just brokeup with the best GF I've had in about 10 years #deardiary (nopics)

Fukking sucks brahs. Great gal, incredibly sweet, good cook, loyal, classically beautiful, wonderful sex on demand, etc etc. Only downside? A 5 year old. We dated a few months but went out to dinner and touring Christmas lights with her kid last night. Every time the three of us have been together the kid gets like 90% of her mom's attention. I just couldn't get down with that dynamic and thought I'd come around over time but it never happened. Last night was the final straw as I found myself walking around the botanical gardens lights by myself as her kid kept being obsessed with having her picture taken every 10 feet in front of every light display. I just wanted to walk around and enjoy the moment and all they did was take pictures of each other. And her kid spilled at dinner and basically hogged all the attention all night. I know time heals all wounds but this one hurts brahs.

Cliffs:
OP brokeup with an otherwise perfect girl because she has a 5 year old that hogs all the attention

How does one get sex on demand when there's a 5 yr old constantly hogging all the attention?

Thanks brahs for the support. This really hurts, but hearing people tell me I did the right thing takes the edge off a bit.

I don't detest children at all. I just don't want any of my own and don't like when they hog all the attention. Literally whenever the gf would start talking to me the kid would be like "mommy come see this" and instead of her saying "just a minute, I'm talking to OP" she'd immediately leave me to tend to whatever BS her kid wanted to show her.

lol, would never harm a child. The kid is sweet, and I really like the kid, but she's annoyingly needy.

Yeah, hard to justify being with a girl that has some other man's kid as her absolute priority. I guess thats to be expected when you marry a girl and have kids with her, but at least you got to enjoy several years of just the two of you when you were her priority.

Being second place since day 1 sucks ass, and only gets worse.

Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

Doesn't sound like she was the perfect girl for you. When the 3 of you are together the daughter shouldn't be getting 90% of the attention. This is something that mom needs to work on and shut down.

Good luck.

My kids would always come before anyone else.

Glad you broke it off OP because obviously you were not the right person for her needs. Poor kid would have had a **** life with you in the picture. Getting jealous of a kid getting more attention than you, strong wtf.

Definitely agree with this. My kids have tried this and I make it clear it’s not acceptable. It was my job as a parent to deal with it.

What's with all the single mom bashing? OP clearly said she's a lovely woman lol.

But you did the right thing OP. If a single mother wants to date, she has to learn how to split her time and attention between child(ren) and partner fairly. Just to check, you did communicate this issue with her before breaking it off, right?

I'm going to play devil's advocate today.

Take it from her point of view. Not knowing what the past relationships were like for her, or what happened with the father of her child. But one thing I can assure you, he, and they are no longer in the picture as they used to be. The one consistency she has in her life, the one duty and responsibility she has is to her child - not the relationship she's in now that can possibly end, or to a guy that may simply walk out tomorrow.

Now, that may not manifest in the healthiest way with her giving the childtoomuch attention, but it may be a reason.

If you talked with her, and attempted to resolve the issue, and it still is a problem, then that's a hot dog nestled nicely inside a toasty bun fuking life, son. If this conversation didn't happen, and this issue wasn't communicated...well, sometimes people do stupid things.

Negged for lack of pics.

I think you're misunderstanding OP's point and attacking his character is a little much. The kid itself wasn't the problem, but rather the mother wasn't balanced with how the attention was distributed. If she's out to spend time with OP, then she should be spending time with OP and giving him enough attention so he doesn't feel like a third wheel to a kid. OP showed maturity breaking it off because he knew he wasn't okay with the situation. If he's already coming in 2nd place this early on, imagine how bad it will be in the future.

Any other parent would probably say "hang on one moment honey I'm talking" rather than cutting the other person off every moment their child wants to get in a word.

It's also possible the mother neglected her child in favor for her mate in her first relationship and is now compensating for that now. If so, she's going about it all wrong and should just focus on her kid before bringing another man in the picture.
