People keep coming back to star wars, even after disappointment after disappointment. That's testament to how powerful the OT really was, and the themes it represents.

Interesting how the "magic" disappeared the more they started relying more & more on the force being a superpower (Marvel... SW shouldn't be Marvel) that can do whatever lazy writers want.

It was a sideline, a punchline in the OG films. Some people didn't even believe it. It was quaint little touch & it worked. But kids wanted to be Han or Chewie just as much because force or not, Han & CHewie could affect the galaxy as much as Luke... and by extension every gun-runner, bounty hunter, ex soldier, con man, well connected diplomat etc ALL ALSO feel like they can have an effect on the galaxy, whoever they are. It feels like a dynamic world where YOUR actions, or inaction, or luck or any myriad of things can tip the balance. It's vast. That makes in chaotic. But you're all small fish.

By now the Force is god-tier & only 2 families in all the galaxies actually matter. That's a big, boring shift in the way the audience perceives the world.
This I remember seeing ANH the week it released.

When I was little I wanted to be Han not Luke lol.

haven't seen it and won't see it until it comes on tv but have seen the last jedi and that was ok so judging from the backlash to that movie this probably won't be bad either

if i had to guess, all the angst with this trilogy has to with a female being the lead and the movies revolving around her story, i mean what else could explain such an intense triggering and nitpicking over a movie lmfao

Just take them to see another movie. Disney is banking on brand loyalty. They will continue to release garbage. Is that the memory you want your kid to have? Dad took him to see a soyboy garbage movie? Could have taken them to see 1917 when it comes out.

Does someone else's family traditions really bother you that much?

THIS

Then they have that former storm trooper chick using a bow and arrow as her primary weapon like the resistance doesn't have blaster laying around she could use in the most important assault of the entire series. Also LOL at riding horses and not having Finn use a jetpack or something cool. At least he could have done something interesting for once.

This would be the first SW episode I miss since Phantom Menace, but I don't want to encourage bad movies. TLJ sucked so bad.

Thought it was OK. Will not be seeing it again.

What blows my mind about this new trilogy is how they did not have some sort of plan in the beginning of what the plot was going to be for all 3 movies. There is no way the original plan was to have Snoke killed in the second movie. After TLJ, Adams was kind of screwed. They needed someone bigger than Kylo Ren which is why they brought back Palpatine. I don't think it would have worked if they added a new antagonist since it is the final movie in the trilogy.

Saw all of the Star Wars movies in the theater with the exception of ANH.

Anakin was the one that FINALLY brought balance to the force. That should be it, thats the end. Theres nothing interesting to be done after Vaders sacrifice. But, theres endless content to be done before all that.

A KOTOR saga frees you from the restraints of beloved older characters and plot lines and you dont have to raise the stakes beyond a Death Star.

My wet dream would be to wake up one morning and read that Christopher Nolan has signed on to do a KOTOR trilogy with Keanu Reeves playing Revan.
That's why they need to shrink the scale down a bit. A straight KOTOR adaptation with beefed up dialogue is how you recapture respect for this franchise, and they can make Revan good or bad, either would work. Keanu would actually be perfect too LOL.

A KOTOR II storyline would be even more unique, even if the sith powers are bordering on insane. But you have Nihilus whose this dark side force of nature who consumes everything, I think you could add some sick horror elements into that.

There's no denying that it would make less money though, which is why Disney would never pull the trigger. But of course, some people will bitch regardless of what they do. SW geeks are easily the most fickle fan base I've ever seen.

And he was aware of this in the EARLY 90's. If I remember correctly...he said people will hate him no matter what he does before he even started writing the prequels. He did goof up hiring so many yes men, but at least he tried hiring good directors. The problem was they insisted he do it.

But...we've also never had a sequel series without excessive cringey dialogue (prequels) or a poor story that's a botched reboot (VII-IX). I'm trying to find "The Phantom Edit" because I'm convinced that some creative editing could make the prequels very good films.

Just saw it yesterday finally, still catching up on this thread, but Rise of Skywalker was such a jumbled mess, I actually think Last Jedi is a better film, and I'm one of the people who didn't like TLJ and loved the Force Awakens.

Rise of Skywalker was a sloppy pile of fan service, whereas at least Last Jedi was a cohesive well-made film. My problem with Last Jedi was what they did to everything set up in Force Awakens and how it threw everything into chaos and tried to kill the Star Wars lore, but it was still a cohesive quality movie.

Last Skywalker thoughts:

-Whatever "romance" the trilogy was trying to set up was a complete chit show. What was the thing Finn wanted to say to Rey when they thought they were drowning/dying? What happened after Rose kissed Finn at the end of Last Jedi? Where did the Rey/Kylo kiss come from, was that a romance being set up or more of a brother/sister force bond? They set up several story lines that went nowhere.

-The lineage thing, seems out of nowhere and in desperation after Last Jedi established her parents were "nobody."

-"Rise of Skywalker" - the title/idea that Rey is a Skywalker...sooo...all the actual Skywalkers are dead (Luke, Leia, Ben) and Rey (Palpatine's granddaughter) takes over the lineage? This isn't the rise of Skywalker, it's the death of all Skywalkers lol.

-I was really hopeful for this film as I loved Force Awakens and we got JJ back...but he seemed more concerned with fan service and checking things off his "Star Wars" list that he forgot to make a clean, cohesive movie. There was no "magic" in this film, nothing that gave me chills. It was sloppy, messy, full of holes, and threw everything but the kitchen sink at us in hopes of covering everything, and in doing so, accomplished little.

Ok so how the **** are they passing stuff threw the force. That might have been useful for 8 previous episodes.
The lightsaber pass at the end of Rise of Skywalker from Rey to Ben (if that's what you're referring to) - I saw this as more of a physical transfer (Rey "flew" the lightsaber to Ben through the air) since they were both on Palpatine's ship...as opposed to transporting it mentally.
