Thing is, without him being in the spot light all the time we would not know much about his quirky personality. There are storys about Jobs and Gates and lots of other people in those kind of positons acting crazy and treating people like **** but its not all over social media and the news so we think Musk is different.

Amazon lost money for over a decade as well. Guess what kept going up, just like Tesla, revenue.. the second part of your post doesn't factor in all the competitive advantages they have being so far ahead of the competition and not being tied to ICEs and the dated dealership model. Right now the best Audi could come up with isn't even close to what Tesla developed 7 years ago. Also how mad you that I'm up 40k on Tesla this year?

Some people with city planning backgrounds chimed in pointed out that adding capacity does not reduce traffic problems.

Also the amount of energy it could use to create these tunnels would far out way the “zero emmison” vehicles (even though they are far from zero emmison)

He has some cool ideas but this isn’t one of them

I do like the idea of the hyper tube for mass transit however

The thing about Musk which people don't seem to understand is his companies make money based on government handouts. SpaceX is all government money. Tesla makes money based on the assumption their cars are overpriced but the fed govt will give you a 7500 tax credit. People who are buying Tesla cars should not be getting handouts. So he makes billions in stock, people buy his cars based on your tax dollars, so lol.....

Don't ever compare Gates, etc to Musk. Musk is a troll who is billionaire based on ripping off the Fed Government....

Sales would be slashed if it wasn't for the govt tax credits. This is what Musk is all about....

Time will tell on this one. I'm absolutely not a fan of companies making their profit from government subsidies though it happens all the time.

On the other hand I can also see that many research projects and development programs are very unlikely to be funded by private interests with no guarantee of a profitable return though the product of these projects and programs could benefit the citizenry in tangible ways.

There is a certain mindset that government run projects are inferior to projects done by private companies.

Maybe we would be better off if any money that is subsidizing Tesla or SpaceX was instead put in the hands of DoT and NASA, or maybe not. Since this is real life most of us can only hope for the best. Excepting any miscers that actually get to vote on the Federal budget.
