What's Really Keeping You From Being All You Can Be? (Srs Thread)

For me it's not being good enough. Spent my whole life being told I couldn't do this or I can't because of this or that. Mainly in soccer. Some very successful coaches, professional players, etc, and it was always something. Too short. Then I grew. Not aggressive enough. Then I became aggressive. No big enough. Then I started working out and gained 30lbs of mostly muscle. Not technical enough.

Nothing was never enough. I basically came to the point where I realized that all of that over the years really affected me from being the best version of myself, while also being the reason I made a lot of growth in my life.

A double edged sword. I'm as big and as strong as I am, had the memories I had, have the thick skin I have, have the never give up attitude I have, etc all from the very thing that is also holding me back from taking more risks in life and actually being the best version of myself because of the fear of more people telling me why I am not good enough.

Being good isn't acceptable when you know you can be great. I think that applies for everyone.

Feels good being honest with yourself and figuring **** out. Fear is a palpable thing. Just have to figure out what it really is for you.

What about you guys? What's holding you back? Why aren't you ditching your bad habits, killing it in all aspects of your life? Fear? Addiction to hide from fear? Pain? What do you need to nip in the butt and get a move on?

inb4 "miscing" lol.

- Low self esteem - like you OP always felt i've never been good enough. Rejection, stuff ups etc has further made me feel worse

- Depression - some days good some days bad - thinking about the past

- Anxiety - some days good some days bad

- Negative self image - always think of myself as unnatractive, balding, short , pale etc.

- Negative mind set

- Narcissistic and selfish - i'm narcisstic think i'm better than others without actually having anything to show for it or to justify it , also don't give to others etc

Fear of failure. Lack of confidence. Which leads to weak determination/laziness.

A mix of fear and laziness.

I have a problem being honest with people. I start acting like a cuck to make other people feel good or I'll say some BS I don't actually feel to be the nice guy. I mean, I can be a dick too, but not when it matters/when I want to be. All my life, I really hated conflict.

slowly getting over the loneliness and depression/regret/guilt of childhood depression. Rebuilding with this goal in mind, one day at a time. How I plan to do that... just take responsibility for every second of life that I feel.

Laziness. The times I do put in effort I do well, its just not often at all.

I'm also very non aggressive, dont talk, dont like others, and very non confrontational, I hate putting others down.

Successful people are the complete opposite of everything I listed.

In terms of socially? Money.

In terms of career, mostly I stayed in the Navy too long now here I am at 12 years so "may aswell". I'm finishing my EE degree though to do that when I get out then I'll be more at peace hopefully.

My legitimate answer as to what is stopping me was being born in the wrong era. 50 years ago it was "easy" to invent new things, 50 years from now we "should" be having things like space docks that we are working on.

The general way life is right now just is a huge fail for me. I'm already 30 so I can't, nor do I want to do like med school and I'm not fast enough at the entrepreneur things that go on. Therefore I don't make enough too "hookers and coke" my life away.

Nobody has ever been 'the best they can be'

There's always things you can improve on; Knowledge, health, physique, being famous, being rich..

I could be better at drawing but idgaf about drawing so best i can do is draw stickmen. I could also hop on tech and be bigger than i've ever been. Or do g4p for extra side money.

I guess the answer is lack of caring. I could spend every minute of my life trying to improve random sht i don't need, or i can chill and only do things i actually care about.

Health .
Legally blind in one right eye from reoccurring herpes infection. Exposure to LED lights brings the virus out of remission in under 30 minutes . Unfortunately everyone is going LED ,so I no longer visit anyone .
Permanent Tinnitus in right ear . Tendonitis in both arms . Low oxygen saturation in blood causing massive headaches. No , never smoked once in my life .
Refraining from cardio helps with headaches though .
Fracture above ankle on the tip of the Tibia . Won’t heal because of calcium deposit restricting blood flow to fracture .
Atrial fibrillation of the heart . Docs won’t operate so I just take a plethora of pills trying to slow it down .
Enflamed prostate causing urinary inflammation. Kind of like having a dose for the rest of your life .
Gets far worse from caffeine and alcohol, so I have to slow down on those . And no it can’t be fixed either .

Other than that , fuk all is holding me back

Funnily enough I did JP’s big 5 personality test the other day, and I was in the 0th percentile for conscientiousness, industrious and orderliness.

In other words - of the 5 five personality dimensions, I am practically completely missing one of them.

But then again this was no news to me, and upon reflection I believe I was probably overly self-critical when I took the test.

Aside from a shockingly poor work ethic, I think I have some kind of low-level depression that comes from my life/contextual situation, and this results in an a fairly consistent state of ennui.

This thread is gonna generate a chit ton of responses from miscers just hatin’ on themselves, but the truth is that your environment plays a large part in your overall development. If you plant a seed in chit soil it will only grow so much.
