Totally hands free texting and calling while also getting live traffic to your in dash GPS is, well, what being in modern times is all about.

BTW, fatalities per mile driven have been going down continuously for decades just like violent crime/murder rates have been going down. Boomers be like...everything is safer now? I HATE IT!

I don't regret it at all. Only tech I really care to have in a car is Sirius XM, power windows/locks (I think that pretty much is every single car now), and I've now become a fan of the backup camera. We both have everything you could realistically need. Power windows, power seats, navigation, backup camera, etc.

Edit: Toyota basically the Glock of the truck and SUV world. They don't change much with new models/releases, but the thing is going to go bang every time the trigger is pulled.

I have had a couple cars with heated seats, and personally didn't miss them when I got a car without them. Never had a heated steering wheel, but it definitely does sound like one of those things that once you have, you can't do without down the road.

Many vehicles today have these things, and many have quite a bit more. Seat memory, massaging seats, parking assist (straight and parallel), heated windshield base/wipers, LED headlights, self leveling headlights...

One of the big detractors to Toyotas whenever we look at cars is they seem pretty anti-progress/anti-technology. They hang their hat on reliability but that means running the same old as dirt everything for at least twice the life cycle of anybody else. What you give is technology, features, power, MPG, etc. BUt, they are reliable.



Okay boomers, time to tell us how much you don't care about all the technology stuff you've never used if you've even heard of it before
I've had cars with everything you listed besides I think heated steering wheel and lane assist. But I did test drive a car with lane assist, and it pissed me off. lol. The steering wheel sounds nice though... When I had it, I never used apple play, or 90% of the other stuff my past cars have had. I'm fine with Sirius XM (actually I would be fine without it... don't really care that much) and blue tooth to my phone for music, I'm good. But I'm not even a big music person anyway, so I could drive in total silence. lol. I don't want to talk through my car (in fact my phone auto connecting to my car pisses me off, because if someone does call, it goes straight to my damn speakers), or text through my car, I don't want OnStar, I don't want a push button start, or a car that parallel parks itself. I guess some of those features would be nice if I spent more time in my car, but now I work 3 miles from my house.

I wouldn't mind having an app to lock/unluck car doors though, because although I ALWAYS lock my damn doors, I am still always paranoid that I didn't. lol.

I had a rental recently for a week with a heated steering wheel. I really miss it. My hands are always cold and it gets worse as I get less young. Heated steering wheel is really nice.

I also don't like the lane stuff. Wife's has a lane departure warning which is just a beep, but it false alarms too oftne because it doesn't understand context, like hugging the shoulder line on a two lane road when a semi is coming towards you...STFU car I want to be riding that line. My mom's has the active lane keep and nobody uses it because of the same kinds of reasons...maybe sometimes turn it on when on the interstate for awhile just-because but mostly, nah

Texting through the car, and calling through the car, is a big deal. Waiting 10 minutes to a few hours to answer a call/text, or driving dangerously and illegally to use your phone while driving, or pulling over to get the phone out...not so nice when you could just do it hands free with the right tech

*Smart watches are handy here, use watch to answer calls and vehicle tech doesn't matter

TBF power windows are important. My first car did not have them (or power locks), and people would get out without rolling the window up. Like, come on man. That car didn't have a cassette player either. Or an 8 track. It had an AM/FM radio with maybe 5 watt speakers and that was it. It was of course a Toyota. Top speed, 83 mph

I agree with whoever said the heated steering wheel is a necessity. It’s so nice.

It’s been 8 weeks now with Geissele and nobody’s stuff shipped. The thread on arfcom is funny. I started that thread and then got banned from the site lol.

Lots of stuff has shipped. But nothing that had a receiver.

Even as I sit here, my hands are cold and fingers are slower. Heated steering wheel on the rental I had for a week was soooo nice I really miss that now

GPS? I have a $10 clip that I can put my phone in on my dash and have all the satnav I want in my 2008 Xterra. Siri lets you make hands-free calls and text if you need to. I'm not saying some of those features aren't nice to have. But the technology does seem to be aimed at idiot-proofing the world to where irresponsible people can just be more irresponsible and hope the technology saves them (or someone else).

Backup cameras can be slick. But I've also talked to people who never backed into anything in their life who started running into things because they were suddenly relying on the camera and not paying attention to anything else. At some point when the wheels fall off my X I'm sure I'll upgrade to another used vehicle that will probably have some of these features since they are becoming more standard. But I'll still rely more on mirrors and paying attention to what I am doing vs rely on lane sensors and stuff like that.

On many vehicles a backup camera is simply a necessity to be safe. Try driving a suburban in tight parking lots filled with little and medium kids running around all over the place and then a random unleashed dog or two without a cameraorsensors...or in a location where sensors false alert so you have to ignore them and now what...there's what feels like 30 square feet of total blindness lol

That's what my wife's Escape does all the time . . . the backup sensors go off for anything not even remotely in the way or close (like the neighbor's car across the street when she's backing out and that car is like 30 ft away at the closest). So then you start to ignore the beeps--but then what's the point?

I've thought about getting an aftermarket setup for one, but it really would be a nice to have. I've never found it very hard to back up in that vehicle and see what's there. Would be nice for parallel parking or something like that.

A backup camera is really the main piece of tech I'd like to have. More so to KNOW how close I am to something rather than just kinda guessing. I can back in and get centered in the lane just fine, but it wouldn't hurt being able to see more. The GF's car has a backup cam and traffic sensors for lane changes. I still turn my head and look for everything coming backing up or changing lanes, but they are definitely nice bonuses.

I'd like to get into a Corvette at some point. Mostly just for fun. But when I do that will likely be more of a daily while the Xterra hangs out for camping or home depot trips. I hope to keep that thing for a long while though.

A little bit...but this week it returned in force. Was below zero driving in Monday, and has been above freezing maybe 2 hours this week so far.

Was worried because we got a 1.5-2' snow storm before thanksgiving....but it really died off after that.

Ill take the added tech over the last decade or two with the corresponding rise in overall quality compared to the shi+boxes that even decent companies put out previously.

Anyone carry an auto folder? I finally decided it was time to retire my CRKT M16 and get something nicer as a replacement. Have to say this thing is pretty sweet.

Protech TR3 Swat. Blade is 154CM. Was going back and forth between it and a Benchmade, but from digging around on a dedicated knife forum, Protech seemed to have 100% pro reviews, and was able to find it for about $30 cheaper than the comparable Benchmade. It's my first auto so have nothing to compare it to, but it opens hard AF.
