plenty of people who dole out life advice struggle themselves. I wouldn't bash him for that.

but I do lol @ his name being defined largely by spreading a redpilled worldview, and yet he still raised his daughter to be the embodiment of what he and his fanbase preach to be wrong with women. as his detractors would say, big oof.

I feel bad for the dude. He is human like the rest of us fellas, take no pleasure in seeing him like this.

I have been spiralling down with anxiety and depression myself...just been prescribed benzos actually and I have the option to take them, but this sort of stuff makes me hesitant.

I think I will just stick to the safe options of mindfulness, exercise, good sleep and a healthy diet. If I were to go the medication route I think I would take LSD or psilocybin - not addictive or neurotoxic.

i took the exact same benzo he has been taking (for my RLS) and i never had any issues with it). In my experience, if you have a physical NEED for it, not an emotional, you dont seem to be as likely to develop a dependency for it. But that could just be broscience. I suggest, if you are hesitant, taking just half the pill for as long as possible because benzos are pretty effective

Cheers for the input mate...yeah it is borderline whether I need to take it so I would prefer to hold fire on it for now. All other things being equal I would prefer not to be on any drugs but I can see it might be necessary for some. Hope you are doing well with it mate, mental health issues can be serious business.

He seemed like he had some good stuff to say but TBH he's just a mentally weak, fragile man that happens to be a good speaker. Dude has issues with depression, anxiety, drug addiction, etc. Its easy to see why incels and plebs can relate to him and think he's intelligent.

It's basically a cliche that psychologists are more screwed up than their patients.

Generally, I like Peterson. He's a smart, articulate guy, and I agree with some of his ideas and disagree with others. But the man was also a fairly typical academic living a quiet life until he became the focus of media attention a few years ago, and the fame probably wasn't good for him. That so many men, particularly young white men, started seeing him as some kind of father figure says a lot more about the state of men in the US than it does about Peterson. People are talking chit now, but a lot of that is the inevitable backlash after so much idealization.

Same here. His writings have been instrumental in me getting my **** together. I've never understood his critics. At worst JP motivates a certain demo of people that need to hear his 'obvious' lessons.

I believe that the reason he gets so much hate is that he doesn't adhere to any particular ideology. The majority of the population cling to an identity tethered to something external. Whether it be politics or race. People have a thought process that's filtered through whatever comforts them.

That being said, I'm looking forward to how JP comes out with regards to medicating for mental illness. I don't think he's ever gone in depth on the use of medicines by psychologist. I have never faced any sort of mental illness but if I or a loved one were to be in that unfortunate situation, my inclination would be to avoid medication. The only case I would be ok with it is to prevent imminent self-harm. Other than that I just don't think medicating for mental illness is a healthy long term solution.

The reason he got the media attention you mention is because he is the exact opposite of 'a fairly typical academic.'

What are you basing the father figure label on? That 'young white men' consume his writings? Using that logic, when Oprah was in her prime, was she a mother figure for stay at home white women?

Idealization? I don't get it. Nobody who has read and understood JP's writings would idealize him. Your post is full of labels that some lazy media person would throw in as buzzwords.

How can you realistically stop it at this point? If you raise your eyebrow at sloots being sloots so brazenly, you get ostracized. It's out of our hands now. "Shame" will never correct society.

I think he was a pretty standard academic until he refused to use all the new pronouns that people at his college insisted he use (xhe, they, 20 other genders etc.). He only got media attention when he refused to back down and be bullied into using them.

It's a pretty fair assessment that there are a lack of male role models in society today and a lot of kids used him as a surrogate father. He wasn't saying anything earth-shattering, it was more the fact that he was willing to stand up to the political correctness that has overrun the education system.

I was thinking of editing that to clarify, since I was expecting what you just said. His political and social views are more moderate or "right leaning" than the majority of academics in the social sciences, but I meant typical in that he's very much the college professor type (since that's what he is). Mild-mannered, likes to think aloud, likes to lecture, etc. People are talking about him like he's some kind of self-improvement guru, but that's not really what he is. He's a public intellectual, and the public part is something that he was thrust into fairly recently. Not sure if I'm being clear or not since I'm pretty tired.

From seeing lots of young guys online refer to him "dad" or "father," especially young men who never had one. Of course, they don't mean this literally, but they do see him as giving the advice and wisdom their own fathers never gave them (probably because they weren't around).

As for Oprah, not the same thing, since middle-aged women aren't looking for a parental figure. That said, the Oprah worship was on another level at its peak.

Many did. Why do you think so many people are talking chit now as if his work and ideas are all worthless just because he doesn't have some kind of perfect life? Like I said earlier, part of this comes from a misconception of who he is.

Stay away from pharmaceutical drugs y'all.

Naturally occurring vitamins/minerals in our body are the way to go along with a few herbs. Or just label me as a tinfoil hat, dgaf.

Pharmaceutical companies don't care about you. They just want their big bucks. Also lol at hating on him for being prescribed benzos. He didn't end up in this predicament because of immaturity. It was because of following the advice of the most trusted professionals in the game. So idk how him ending up sick is "ironic" or funny or means everything he says about life is bs. No offence but some of you are some dense motherphukkers who can't go beyond an initial layer of thought. Hurrdurr he talks about living a good life and then ends up sick fukn *******. Maybe ask yourself of the context here first.

As for his daughter being everything he preaches against, that's a more valid knock on him

Lol take LSD and never get out of a trip. Take acid before work. You want to be in a good head space for psychedelics. Would have had trip if depressed and anxious.
