I've done Muay Thai and a bit of wrestling (nothing crazy) as well and there is just a more general "type", for a lack of a better word. Muay Thai and Wrestling are like Olympic Lifting and Power Lifting. There's a just a more general type (as much as those can be generalized, as yes, I realize there are all kinds doing all of these things), typically. How many BJJ guys actually make a paycheck from grappling? So many dorks w/no athletic background can become proficient in BJJ and place in tournaments. This isn't possible with anything else inclusing boxing, wrestling, football, basketball, (insert sport).
So with BJJ, specifically (and CrossFit), you've got a bunch of people who never worked out or really did any of the more main stream sports growing up taking part, largely because of the "human chess" element of it that appeals to more "intellectual" types/athletic activities averse (however you prefer to think about it). However, they're just limiting their game and overall potential. Being explosive and athletic has definitely allowed me to hang with people who are quite a bit more skilled. There are weight classes for a reason, even though it's marketed as being for the little guy to beat the big guy. There is a lot of truth to that, but yeah, it's not magic aside from against a big guy who knows little-to-nothing.
Somewhat disagree with the statement of it not being possible in other sports. In boxing you've got dad bod Tyson Fury. In basketball you've got tons of spot-up 3-point specialist who are largely defensive liabilities due to their **** athleticism, etc. So there are "unathletic" types at high levels of all sports, but I do agree that BJJ seems to have more than the average, that's for sure. But go look at ADCC 2019, it's juice city out there, lol. So at the very peak, it's really not all that different from every other sport. But yeah, at your local bull**** tournament, sure, you have mr. pocket protector who medaled in his blue belt class of 4 people, lmao.

I actually really don't care for BJJ, but I do it because I think I should to help me make the well-rounded person I wanna be. Like most days I have to drag myself to class. Once I'm there, I'm fine and into it, but it's definitely different compared to other things, like lifting, that I truly love.

Rolling for a workout is the equivalent to hitting the heavy bag.. you can hit the heavy bag for 50 years and keep going np.

Also dude in the vid got incredibly unlucky. I landed on my head/neck like that a ton of times in wrestling and am still walking around.

You CANNOT SPAR up to and at that age. They would have pudding for brains. That doesn’t mean you can’t train, it means you can’t go into a fight with full intentions. You can do that and stay healthy minus some minor injuries like miniscus tears etc.. in bjj. Or if you wanna be a derp like in op.. I guess bad things can happen but it’s not like everyone is trying a flying armbar.

I was reading a post on the internet one day where a guy was basically trolling, going "who would win in a fight - a 170 pound Navy SEAL or a 220 lb NFL running back?" All the comments were like "Navy SEALs! They're taught how to fight! They know secret strikes and Krav Maga!"
Like... no. A world-class athlete 3 weight classes bigger than you who runs an 11 second 100 meter and squats 500 with ease. If you're not on a similar athletic level yourself (basically being a pro athlete/fighter yourself), you are going to die. You just can't "technique" your way around that much explosiveness.
Speaking of football players and MMA, this is Jon Bones Jones's brother and certified NFL stud Chandler Jones literally breaking a tackling sled. He's 260 instead of 220, but holy fuark, that power.

Watched the video at least 10 times.
For me the worst part is the audio of his neck snapping. Imagine how loud that was in his head.
Is he paralyzed for life?
