Regarding adding a new cartridge, I used to think having a variety of calibers was better. However, I'm leaning towards having fewer calibers and stockpiling more ammo. On that note, may shoot all my .40 and sell the glock 23. Use that $$ for more 9mm. Or do I just keep it and a couple thousand rds? dunno..
I think it's good to, say in that case, keep the .40 and a little ammo for it, that way youcanuse .40 if that is what is available for whatever reason, but put the [vast] majority of your resources on the 9

What kind of magazines does everyone keep ready for their home defense AR? How many do you keep loaded up and close at hand at the ready? What kind of ammo? And why to all those questions?

I’ve got a decently growing stack of mags now, all 30rd and about half okay industries sure feeds and half pmags and was thinking about if there is a best way to go, or if it’s just down to personal preference

What about magpul rubber loops that slip over the bottom, duct tape and parachute cord, or other things like ranger base plates?

Basically, what does your HD AR setup look like and why?

This is the rifle that lives next to the bed. There's a pmag in the rifle currently, not for any particular reason. The PC has D&H mags with ranger plates, belt has an okay USGI mag. Much prefer USGI mags to pmags. There's also a zip tie with a metal stopper in the grip to use as a restraint if necessary. The sling has a couple extra batteries in it.

I keep the PC and belt in the closet (4 rifle mags, 2 pistol) and one in the rifle next to the bed, so 5 rifle mags total, 3 pistol mags. Rifle next to the bed, pistol on the nightstand. Ammo was Guat M193 for a while (some of the best and hottest M193 ime), but after seeing the terminal effect of Magtech's 77 grain load (they call it first defense sniper or something like that), I keep them loaded with that. Everything here minus the rifle is in the bedroom closet.

Medical is just as important.

There's a tourniquet attached to the stock of the rifle, and another on the belt in the closet. The belt has a micro TKN from blue force gear, but I keep a full CLS bag (saline and all) in the nightstand, minus some of the USGI bandages but replaced with 4" izzies and more airway stuff.

have nasopharyngeal airway. Anything else recommended for airway?
edit: other than plastic/tape for sucking chest wound

forgot I even had a CLS bag... Been years so need to see if I can still run an IV on myself. Saline is surely expired so inb4 death.

Chest seals have come a long way. I carried aschermans which are huge...hyfin seals fold up really tiny though and can be self administered. Definitely recommend hyfins or halos and a decompression needle or two.

Look for something with a full flat grind that will be very easy to clean. I've been using a Harsey T2 Ranger. Like this -

Myself and most people I know use a havalon for skinning. But there’s still a lot of dudes that like a knife with a bit more back bone. Personally I can’t Imagine skinning anything without my havalon.

Aimpoint, WML with tape switch, 20 round mag with mk262

Why? Light is important, Aimpoint is quick and always on, it won't fit in my quick safe with a 30 round mag inserted because it's too tall

What most people recommend for a layman's trauma kit is
*TCCC approved tourniquet kept outside the IFAK accessible one handed with either hand (more than one even)
*Combat Gauze (or Celox or chito)
*Pressure dressing (Israeli or similar)
*Vented chest seal x2 (NAR Hyfin mostly, or Halo)

NPA and the ARS needle for those with training in their use

But if you're talking from having received CLS training, ignore anything I spew out lol

I was running around all day yesterday. Getting dirt bike gear for my kid and trying to pick out things at Home Depot for a bathroom remodel.

Kid was ripping around on the bike today. Overall real good. Slammed it in to the barbed wire fence once though.

Dreading work this week. I kind of miss the no stress of my last job even though I wasn’t making as much.

If you really want something for skinning, then get a Havalon. If you want something to carry around then get a Havalon and something to carry around. A super sharp knife is king when skinning and you're not going to get to where you can produce an edge like that without a lot of practice. That's where the havalon scalpel like disposable blades make it superior.
